Winchester Orchestra
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ธ.ค. 2021
The Winchester Orchestra was founded in 1999 by its music director and board members. In the late 1960s, West Valley College founded a symphony orchestra under music director George Champion, and later, under the baton of Ross Bergantz. Many community members joined the group at that time, and it evolved into a non-profit group in the early 1980s. Disbanded in 1985, several members of the group joined the new Santa Clara University Orchestra, which was being formed at the time under music director Henry Mollicone. The organization left that university in 1999 and became The Winchester Orchestra, an independent non-profit community orchestra. In 2014, the baton was passed to Michael DiGiacinto, who served as music director and conductor through the orchestra’s 2017-2018 season. Guest conductors led the group during the 2018-2019 season, and subsequently Scott Seaton was selected to lead the orchestra going forward.

Bravo to this wonderful community orchestra! Movie fans will remember this music from Breaking Away, a terrific movie about a bicycle race and coming of age on a college campus (Indiana University/ Bloomington.) It’s a classic and the Rossini music helps make it so.
SACRAMENTO SALUTES the Winchester orchestra
Well, ya wanted comments, so here ya go. Basically, good job. An old orchestra player here, community and "semi-pro" back in the 80s. Strings are doing a good job here holding their own, given reduced numbers compared to winds. Four violas, esp. (I was low brass, but played some viola), hey, good job, gang. My one crabby-cakes, as an old bass bone/tuba guy is one of the horns goes rogue at about 2:40 in. A good rule of thumb for brass is to practice louder than you can control, then back that down 10 percent, and that is the loudest you can control. Just sayin' ..... Also, I really wouldn't go with that open a sound if I had that bright of a sound, whoever the one guy is. Reminds me of the one edgy bass in chorus rehearsal who always hangs over 1/16th note more than the section so he can have the "ring."
Who'd want to run an orchestra with random women ambling around (13 min+) Then 14.47 someone tips a chair over or drops a cymbal 🙄By the time it gets to that piece of Greig arount 19min I *always* have difficulty not grinning since a musician told me the mnemonic for it is 'Mother owns a knocking shop, knocking shop, knocking shop. Mother owns a knocking shop and father has to pay'. Good 'though - I enjoyed it
4:44 Mendelssohn, 18:40 Saint-Saens, 44:28 Tchaikovsky
It is so great to see conductors who enjoy their work or may be work is the wrong word, may be craft is a better word to use. The spring in this step and his joyous attitude show before he even starts to conduct.
