The 1972 Fischer-Spasski set is my favorite design and I like how much this is inspired by it - the tall crenelations on the rook, the bulbous bishops and the knights reminiscent of the classic 1850s English Knights but with a slightly more chiselled look, but still fun to look at, without being as boring as the German Knight. I do miss the elegance of the smaller king's crown and queen's coronet in this set. I guess it's easier to grab it in blitz this way, and with a triple weighted set there's far less concern of pieces being top heavy? My retinas are damaged due to diabetes, and bright white rapidly overpowers my eyes and is just like a silhouette. So I prefer ivory/cream for the light pieces, but not banana-yellow. Same for the dark pieces-I prefer dark brown/red (I *love* Padauk but there are good reasons to not use that for a tournament set). Finally, kudos for the review style. It's informative, honest, addresses issues customers might have with the various versions. Price point *is* a bit steep for a plastic set though. Especially when I see injection molding lines. For a $7.95 set that's perfectly acceptable but at a price point halfway of a "handcarved" wooden set (granted with German knights) that's a bit hard to swallow.

Holy moly. I am making this same exact board and pieces right now. I am basing the design off this board and pieces. But to see it finished.... Very nice set, cant wait to get mine done.
