Pressure Pilling!
You may have heard of the phenomenon called “pressure piling”, which adds to the severity of an explosion. Pressure piling can happen when explosion proof enclosures for use in a hazardous area are not designed and installed properly. Pressure piling can lead to a catastrophic event. It’s therefore important to understand what pressure piling is, what causes it, and how to prevent it. In this v...
The use of non-electrical equipment in Hazardous Areas!
It is well known that hazardous locations pose risks because of the presence of ignitable gas, dusts, or fibres. For this reason, many safety Standards and procedures govern electrical devices that are to be installed in those locations, to ensure that they do not become a source of ignition. Non-electrical equipment may also be sources of ignition or explosion. Mechanical equipment, because of...
IECEx Marking for Ex Products -
The marking of hazardous location electrical equipment known as Ex equipment may seem complex and confusing. Markings are consistently applied to electrical devices that have been proven to be compliant with safety requirements defined in Standards. When you break marking down to its separate parts, it all begins to make sense. This presentation will focus on the markings of products approved u...
Temperature Class VS Auto-Ignition Temperature of Explosive Gasses in Hazardous Areas!
Electrical equipment generates heat when in use and hot surfaces can ignite explosive atmospheres. It is therefore especially critical to consider the maximum surface temperature that an electrical device may reach in service when installed in a hazardous environment where explosive gases are present. Temperature Class (known as T-Code) is the maximum temperature of the exposed surface of the e...
Intrinsic Safety Wiki
Intrinsic safety is one of the protection techniques used to ensure that an electrical device installed in a hazardous location cannot result in an explosion. The use of this technique will permit electrical equipment to be installed and used in locations with the most stringent requirements - Zone 0 or Zone 20 classified areas where flammable gases or dusts are present continuously. Let's look...
Hazardous Locations - Class II, Division 2
Dust explosive atmospheres are hazardous due to the presence of combustible dusts, fibres or flyings. Small combustible dust particles can burn easily and rapidly; a sufficient quantity of them can cause an explosion. There are three classified areas in the Zone system that relate to dust explosive areas: Zone 20, 21 and 22. In the Class-division system, Class II Division 1, and Class II Divisi...
Hazardous Locations - Zone 22
Zone 22 is defined as an area in which an explosive dust atmosphere, in the form of a cloud of dust in the air, is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only. Ignition sources must be prevented during normal operation. Electrical and non-electrical equipment used in Zone 22 must not become a source of ignition in the form of hot surfaces ...
Hazardous Locations - Zone 2
Electrical equipment is often installed in locations where there are gases present, making them hazardous locations. Therefore, it is required that these products to be designed and constructed in compliance with safety standards in order to be safe for use in such hazardous locations. As per International Electrotechnical Committee standards, the classified areas are categorized in three group...
Hazardous Locations - Class I, Division 2
Hazardous locations are classified in North America, using two different classification systems: the Class-division and the Zone system. It is important to know how they differ. This animation focuses on Class 1 Division 2. Class 1 means that the location contains flammable gases, flammable liquid-produced vapours, or combustible liquid produced vapours. Division 2 means a location where an exp...

Given a considerable amount of experience in gas measurement technology and electronics, the team at Mems AG develops electronics and sensors for the public, industrial, and service sectors, including for applications in hazardous locations. Mems AG considers itself a technology company. In fact, they developed their own gas quality measurement technology (trademark gasQS™), suitable for all pr...
Hazardous Locations - Zone 21
Locations involving dusts are known to be hazardous because dusts can be combustible and flammable. Naturally, the locations where dust is present continuously are the most hazardous. Locations where dusts are present only occasionally are still hazardous, nonetheless. If electrical and non-electrical equipment is installed in such locations, the devices must be designed and constructed in comp...

Hazardous Locations - Class II, Division 1
Dust explosive atmospheres are common and dangerous. The hazards posed by explosive dusts should not be underestimated! These hazards exist wherever dusts are present during storage, conveying, processing, and handling of materials that generate them. In North America, there are two systems used to classify or group hazardous locations: the Class-division system and the Zone System. Locations t...

Within the global marketplace, manufacturers and buyers of electrical equipment are equally challenged. Manufacturers need an international platform through which to promote their products. Buyers need to be able to source exactly what they need, and in the least amount of time possible. This challenge is heightened when the products involved are electrical devices, designed for use in hazardou...

if motor require 35mm square cable being installed in Zone 2 . if wd install this motor in Zone 1 , Do we need to increase cabl size or no? cable size not affected by zone classification?

    • @hazlocdirectory6897
      @hazlocdirectory6897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi, the motor cable size is not related to which classified area the product is installed. However, the type of cables need to be appropriate as per zone hazardous areas. If you install your cable in Zone 1, it needs to have proper protection technique (Flameproof, increased safety, purging, etc.) and the cable needs to be selected correctly.

I do not know any standards (here in Europe) which renders certain cable sizes to certain zones. You have to carefully size your cables, not to reach the temperature limit of the zone or the cable Tmax, in any conditions. Cable size and fuse sizing are very important.
