I think launching it by holding it by the wing like a frisbee might work better.
That might work. I think next time I’ll grip from back where there are two small air intake holes and toss it myself. I’ve seen that work with these 40mm edfs. Thanks for dropping by!
Thank god the su57 has such a lifting body
Yeah, a giant wing!
Getting one of these as my first jet 😅 hope everything will go well, at least I will have a gyro on it
Great! Hope it goes well!
Mine handles perfectly fine on grass. Removed the horrid grease inside the retracts which made the suspension like wood. My grass is long and lumpy and still pops up on 7s within the length of a school bus. That with the TV system and 900g of lipo too
Yeah, this Avanti does fine off grass. Enough power even on 6S and good gear
Nice video!!! Stay warm!!!
Thanks! Will do!
Nice flying!
Thanks! It’s a fun plane!
Jeff great maiden. Zoom zoom zoom Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff!
Very nice, short and to the point. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for stopping by!
Do the ESCs sliding around in the bottom of the plane pose any real issue? Also, just a little note as I'm assembling mine right now: The little locator ring that goes on the front gear shaft has a notch molded into it.. make sure it lines up with the coil on the front gear shaft, it leans on that indentation!
That ESC is so light, if it moves it doesn’t matter. I haven’t noticed anything. And thanks for the tip! Glad you stopped by!
Yes grass ops!!!!! And you are the man for sharing your rates, most people don't. She has a howl to her!!! Good stuff bro
You bet!
I purchased the programming cable only to find out that to install the app in my PC I had to disable a security feature in my computer core. I found that questionable. Returned the cable and did not do the update. 😢
Have you flown the same jet with AS3X vs AS3X+ and noticed a significant difference? If so, what is the difference? I have about 15 jets with Spektrum AS3X/SAFE receivers. It would be a significant effort to upgrade all of these.
I have flown my FlyFans 64mm L-39 with AS3X and AS3X + with the master gain on the RKnob to tune while flying and after adjusting in moderate wind it was locked in. I would suggest upgrading in your one go-to EDF and see how it feels.
The key was your statement about 65% on the aileron/elevator. I found it very twitchy and, with the large lifting body, any pitch or roll was significant. This is my first xfly and wish the setup in the instructions were better at toning down the AL/EL. Other than that, it competes with the F22 64 in flight characteristics and floats forever. BTW great landing. Oh one more...I've stress-tested the gear on landings and they are solid!
Thanks. That’s typically my rate setting on most edfs. Too much throw makes the flying very twitchy. And I use 10% expo all around on all edfs. Just to maintain the same feel. But that’s a pilot’s personal preference. “Stress tested” lol. Good to know…
Elevators are absolutely gorgeous on this bird
I love the full flying stabs too. Makes it very responsive
A little bit more description. of what you're doing and why you're doing it as you're doing it would be a little bit helpful. Slow down a little bit and give a little bit more context.
Very nice maiden 👍🏻 .. does it taxi n takeoff easy on grass ? And have u tried hand launching?
It took off from grass fine and it would taxi but to save battery on our rough grass I always just walk the planes out. The next flight will be trying a hand launch and I’ll post.
Bit like buying a BF109 model in 1948 ... 🤢
Thank you !!! Saved me. I keep forgetting the factory reset. SAFE worked, but no AX3S unless you do the reset. And I only have about 50 more planes/receivers to do.
lol. Glad it helped!
Very nice review. Have u maiden it ?
Tomorrow! I will post a video. Rx set up.
@6SRC_YT nice.. looking forward to it ✌🏻
Maiden video posted!
6S fantastic float flying. Out of all the planes I’ve traded I miss the Palse. Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff!
Did you modify the exhaust nozzles? She took right off of the grass!
Yes, the RCGeek’s performance nozzles were added.
Tried everything but I can't get ASX3 and battery status screen working. Bought new Spektrum AR637T+ ASX3+ and Avian Smart ESC 30A and NX8+ Updated everything to the latest version. Watched and executed all videos on TH-cam. Also used the Templates which yielded nothing and re-entered everything myself. Transmitter NX8+ works well with Hobbyzone AeroScout which has also Spektrum products What else can I do? I've been working on this for a whole week. Very frustrating
Ok try this. Be sure your radio is bound to receiver and all turned on. In main menu, scroll down and click Telemetry. You should see several numbered items, including AS3X. If not, pick any “Empty” one and scroll until you see it and choose it. Double click AS3X and Display needs to say” Act” meaning active. Then back out of this menu to main menu. When you scroll you should eventually see AS3X Gains.
@@6SRC_YT Many thanks but that didn't work either. I tried now a template from E-Flite Conscendo and suddenly this work. Don't know why. I have tried also blank templates which did't work. What remains now is that I do not get the battery status with the picture of a dead battery. I do get that when I fly with the AeroScout. HorizonHobby have very bad support for this. I really wonder if there is anyone here who knows a bit about Spektrum equipment.
Maybe I'm not that clear. In the Aeroscout program I have the screen 'Function List'--> 'Charge Status' in my head role menu. When I'm flying it's clear to see what my battery status is. I want to see that in my other plane too. How do you adjust the main role menu? Add remove others in it
You don't need to update if you already have the plus transmitter or rx.
Spektrum hasn't made any new templates for the plus system yet
Cool!
Thanks for stopping by!
How much nose weight did you add to it?
Was about 6 ox
@@6SRC_YT 6 ounce? wow thats a alot of added weight. i never usually add more than 3 ounces on my short nosed war bird planes
Just discovered your channel great job on your video. I’m glad you discovered this gem of a plane! I love mine! For some of us, The stock cg is way nose heavy. I didn’t believe it until one day I tried it like Jon from Twobros recommended. I fell in love. I run 3300 for crazy moves but mostly 4000smc both all the way back and that plane will carve like the real thing and float in high on its mains like butter. Curious why the 8channel…?
Yes this is a great find. That day I tried a 3300 for the first time and it was fine even off grass. With the right cg inverted flight is effortless. I gotta try a lap around the field next. lol. I have the AR631 in this plane. Thanks for stopping by!
Nice 6S !!! She fly’s great brother 👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Thanks EQ!
I hate R/C that flies so fast. I like to land like an elevator facing a stiff headwind.
BUT-TER!!!

Good job, it works great. Thank you for posting it. Eugene in Ireland 🇮🇪 😊 👍

Fantastic flying and niiiiiiice landing. Zoom zoom zoom Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff!
Where do you have your C/G ?
The CG I used is 66mm back from wing root.
In the middle.
I updated CG answer
Mine came today ,I can't wait to fly. It . Thanks for the review, but just one question: Are you using a 6s lipo ?
Yes, a 6S 2200 but a little bigger will fit
Wow😀
What app do you use for your phone?
For iPhone, search “Drone Scanner” in the App Store. There are many but that’s actually the name. Blue flower-like logo.
@@6SRC_YT thank you
Pnp?? 4s available??
This plane is no longer available at Horizon Hobby
Newbie here using an NX8, and the plane is an Apprentice STS 1.5. The remote ID light is on and steady, I went to telemetry like this video shows and put in gps and airspeed, scrowled to the gps screen, but there's no data showing up. What am I missing?
There are a lot of variables but initialize the remote outside with clear view to the sky to be sure it connects. To verify it’s working, and if you have an iPhone, go to App Store and search “Drone Scanner” using quotes. That’s what it’s called. I use this one. After you install you will see remote IDs in your area which will likely just be you. If you see yourself you’re good. If nothing shows up it’s not yet broadcasting right.
@6SRC_YT I've done what you suggested with 4 different apps, and it is definitely working. Just not on the NX8. 🤔
One possibility, have you installed latest firmware update for the nx8?
@6SRC_YT I haven't, but I'm going to. Thanks for your imput here. I appreciate it. 😁
4s or 6S? I think the performance will be the same (power/kg, not top speed) and price for batteries will be lower.I am leaning towards 4S; Wingloading will be lower aswell, so itll be more forgiving. Flight time should be the same, and on the low end probably more compared to 6s. Thoughts?
I fly 6S 2200 CNLN and it flies great. If you fly off grass too you may find it more difficult to take off. You know your field and if other 4S edfs have had trouble. If you think you can rotate, then your flight experience should be fine.
@@6SRC_YT Thanks for your input.
6s ?
4S. Thanks for stopping by to watch!
❤ it sic
Very nice/smooth touchdown..👍🏻🙂
Thanks, and glad you stopped by!
Have you made any adjustments from stock? Mine seems to take forever to lift off from grass!
It’s stock, except I did program full span flaps for takeoff and landing. Note I fly a 3300 pack and push it as far back as it can in battery bay. If you fly a bigger battery try one smaller. It’s too nose heavy with bigger packs.
@@6SRC_YT thanks for your reply. I’ll have to look into that.
Wow, so smooth... Do you use some kinds of take off and landing assist gyro.... ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks, and no. They’re not all that good frankly but the good ones are what keeps us coming back. lol. Thanks for watching!
Can you show a how to of upgrading software on the RX ?
Nice!
Thanks, I’ll tell Pilot Jeff!
hello i have the same idea. have the airplane lot more power? 1 to 10 ?
Yes, 9
@@6SRC_YT thanks :-)
humbug
Does it have reverse thrust?
No, the stock ESC doesn’t have reverse but the plane is light, stops quick, and doesn’t really need it.
I was amazed at the results from plugging mine into the 115 volt house voltage.
Awesome work with the Zues!
Jeff did a great job flying it! Thanks for stopping by!
