Very sad to see Saltire go. I got back into biking 6 years ago after a 30 year break and did a ‘back-to-biking’ course with a wonderful instructor called John. I then bought a used Honda from them and all was well. However, more recently I tried to test a Royal Enfield and the insurance excess was so crippling I declined the test (it was over 50% of the value of the bike). I decided to e-mail Calum, the owner, and he let me know that they were working on a better system. So, a year or so later, I eventually took the test ride. But if I’m totally honest, the sales guy I dealt with couldn’t have cared less about securing my business. I bought a used Enfield from another dealer instead but it was due its first MoT this year so I booked it into Saltire months in advance and requested a loaner bike as I needed to get to work. When I showed up on the morning of the service, no loaner bike. Eventually the sales team agreed I could borrow one of their bikes. I got a call to say my bike was ready, went to pick it up and asked how the MoT went: a long silence followed. They had ‘forgotten’ to do it! I wasn’t impressed. So, for me personally, I saw a slow decline in the attitudes from some of the staff that worked there over the last 6 years. I feel for the hard working men and women who have lost their jobs and wish them all well.
The thing is they don't want us on the road weather it's car bike van lorry no doubt they roll the usual bullshite climate change raod safty and al, tbe rubbish tbey trot out typical local council's getting gready no doubt all about net zero ........
The whole car bike caravan campervans are going to implode they are luxury items that labour government don't want you to have net zero is the only thing they are interested in pushing on to us😢
After 14 years of the Tories, and the Brexit disaster, you blame Labour. Seriously people like you need to give their head a wobble.
Regarding stock levels, the suppliers will have had a clause in the supply contracts, which state that until the invoice is paid the stock remains their property and is not subject to the administration. I did look at the Triumph 800 with a view to bidding but it sold for £4350 (inc fees), which is mental. I think some people may have got carried away or didn’t factor in the fees.
Went there a few times from inverness good cafe and showroom.nothink left up here in scotland its turning to a ghost town for bikes
Thanks for your video. TH-cam is flooded with videos which appear to be poorly veiled advertisements for dealers. Your video is unique in showing the demise of a dealer.
The appreciation of the FTRs was EXACTLY what I would be thinking.
So sad that community place was lost... Creepy walking through all of it.
Sad but the industry is dying, look around any motorcycle show or bike meet, it's mostly older guys and give it another 10 or 20 years and half of them will either have died or just packed it in. Roads are too dangerous now anyway with phones and stupid screens that every half wit is staring at. Thank God I was born and grew up when I did, I pity young people now and the fcked up society they are growing up in.
They robbed customers all the way to that shop ,so looking pretty gappy bout this news karma is brutal .
Very sad day
Sorry to see them go but I wonder if they knew it was coming for a while. On my last visit a few months before the announcement I was surprised to just find one salesman in the big showroom downstairs It made me wonder
They havent touched my ktm duke 690 for 3 months, I picked the bike uo a few days they went bankrupt so yes they knew
Your Observations Coments are 100% . Most motorcycle dealerships are in a similar situation if they are honest , they are kidding themselves , to keep the ilusion going. There is NO MARKET for the gross over-supply of TOO EXPENSIVE TWO WHEELERS. Look at the second hand stock NOT MOVING TOO EXPENSIVE for the market. Younger people do not want motorcycles , and us old ones are a dying out.
Very sad for all the staff and families 😢.
Shame as it looks like a great store to hang around in.
So did you bid at auction or try to purchase?
Nope. But watched it to the end. Someone got an Indian chief for 10,500 it seems
My son has just started his motorcycle life on the road and when pricing up 2 stroke oil he said it's 2pound cheaper online, i then explained to him that you should support your local dealer as much as you can as when they have gone it is gone for good. He now buys from our local shop (york Suzuki) and building a good relationship with them
Extremely sad. I’ve seen a number of bike shops closing, what’s going on, is there a decline in bike ownership. I own a Harley and my two main dealers, have closed?
Just look ,16 shops down England just shut down ,
Definitely so nice but also annoyingly loud for civilization lol. I am waiting my Bobber to arrive in 2 days and i only ordered the Motone without deleting the cat. Enjoy your bike awesome!!
I am shocked to see all the motorcycle shops closing down in the UK. This is bad for people buying parts from outside your country.
Wee trip,to ratho?
I blame TJs food was naff 😂
Did you forget your gloves?
I can only hope this will help, the small businesses that were in the shadows, benefit from the fall? Sorry to see JT and his staff lose the cafe.
Not a learning experience, a leaning experience 😂
Got a price for a valve check at saltire for my 701, 6 hours at £95 pound an hour. Went elsewhere, who can afford that ? Not really surprised.
From the breakers just off Meadowbank road in 80,s to portobello to Gorgie to here they scammed a lot off people myself included ,
soon to close, such a shame
Brought my hayabusa and transalp from saltire loved the showroom sad to what’s happened 😢
And looks like zero chance of it coming back
I am down in the south east and everyone I speak to says work is dead, my gf works for a engineering firm and says its so quiet, my neighbour works for wren kitchens and says its the quietest its ever been, my mums neighbour works for ups and says they are delivering on average a quarter of what they used to and my own job which sells clothes is absolutely dead and I spend most the day doing nothing, took my bike to my small dealer and his gone down to 3 days a week because of lack of work, maybe its just a blip but unless you work for one of the mega corps it seems like business in Britain is dying
Interest rates, inflation, cost of living, government policy are fuxking everyone
The economy is hanging on by a thread not long to go now ,
Man... you sound exactly like a guy I used to follow on TH-cam for Photography some years ago... Dom Bower.
Ever heard of him… but I am sure he is sexy af
Definitely not. He would never ride his bike above legal speeds… must be someone else😂😊
@@midlife-crysis 🤣😉
Very very sad. For a long time Callum was the only man I’d let spanner my bike when he was at A3P and Moto-cal. My cousin mark was his sales manager too. I feel bad for both of em. I really hope they can find work soon.
A3p dalkieth road was best shop for engineering work aswell , built a z550 motor for me reborn new pistons valves etc. Etc ,just under the 450 mark ,good times
Sad It looked a fantastic place… so many disappearing.
A very difficult market for many, especially Harley bikes priced high in the UK, you don't want to be holding stock over winter....
It will become student flats....
Possibly, it’s a lot of area, could be over 100 flats.
@@midlife-crysis maybe not for a while though as nobody wants to invest right now.
Known them and Callum for a long time, best part of 40 years. Sad day for them all and the Edinburgh industry. Saying that just bought my second Royal Enfield, you should pick one up...
It’s sad, and now completely bikes in administration, people have done their balls trying to make these businesses work but it’s so hard now, I’m self employed running a small business and it ain’t what it used to be, people generally don’t understand how hard running a business is because most people go to work and get their wages at the end of the month, but guaranteed there be the boss working more hours than anyone behind the scenes😢
It's very tough, people don't realise
Rhe wuble is after 99mph and a change of tires to another brand fixes the issue, intentional from factory to discurage high speed riders. This guy has soap in the head. Lol me at 17.
Two bike dealers up here in north Scotland reported poor sales. Continual bad weather and cost of machinery getting ott. Ktm in financial straits
Sad news looked a great place! But many dealers shut this year!
Looks like the manufacturers have shot themselves in the foot.
Manufacturers dumping stock….bankrupting distributors…. And having to take back this own bikes….not a great business plan!
@@midlife-crysis Never been to Saltire Motorcycles....sadly it looks like my loss to have missed it!
What a time to be alive eh? As per the WEF agenda I'm afraid we're heading for a dystopian future in a neo-feudal society. They're getting away with it because the masses by and large still think that's all just a conspiracy theory. Now it's hitting the normal man in the street hopefully it'll wake everyone up. Not holding my breath though. Just feel sorry for our kids.
That and the amount of surveillance we are under is pure 1984
very sad the way the whole of Britain is going downhill . we as a family have been motorcyclists for me and my wire 50 odd years and our son 35 years . i hope and pray our local dealer can survive ,i have known the staff for many years . also we are fans of the Triumph Visitor Centre ,local to us , and so hope they weather this uncertainty everyone is going through . as pensioners we are dreading the Starmer and co. budget in a couple of weeks from now .
The budget could be hell for soooo many people
Such a shame, did all my training at Saltire , great staff . Always enjoyed a mooch around the showrooms.
Saltire was one of the best dealers i ever bought a bike from along with the servicing after Great place for a day out when getting a service All the staff were superb
Bikes are and have been for a while too expensive, people are being squeezed by all, toys are the first thing to be dumped.
Second hand prices are also high. Nothing cheap these days
Cost of living is just fucking everyone especially young people, hence the reason there are so little under 30 riders at bike meets, there are a lot of good value bikes around the 8k mark from all manufactures but food cost, house prices/rent, constant increases from council tax, gas and electric, water bills its no wonder motorcycle dealers are just waving the white flag, people cant afford shit
It's all overpriced.New and second hand...2010 I bought a 2009 Bandit 650 for £3650.Couldn't sell it a year later with 8000 miles on it.Eventually got £2400 for it.Idiots nowadays are thinking their old shit is worth a fortune and are looking for the same money now,all these years later.Post COVID ,the worlds went nuts.
It's such a shame that dealers such as this are going under, I've never visited Saltire but was a regular visitor to their online site. I've come really close to buying a few of their second hand machines, then opted for other bikes. More recently I had my heart set on the new Chieftain Sport and was just waiting for the new model to hit the showroom floor. Now I'm rather glad I hadn't invested heavily into that given they're now in administration.
You would have been massively stuck for an indian approved service centre
I was going to buy my 1st bike a month back from Saltire Motorcycles, til i discovered they had closed and gone into receivership 😞
Close call, could have lost your money!
@@midlife-crysis What's the Cowshed like ?, Any good ?
@@The_Arbysmall father and son start up.
New pricing is simply insane! Add the idiots that use 'never never' deals to think they can afford a new bike is another reason for this looming disaster. I bought a brand new 2008 Aprilia RSV Factory for £8,995. Fast forward to 2024, the new RSV Factory is over £26k! Just under a three fold increase in 16 years. Wages/salaries have barely changed in that time. Those savings you're seeing in that dealer going bust are taking the piss. If their going out of business, expect to get bid in bollocks for the last stock.
Some maths says it’s not far above the cost of the inflation over that period of time. But way way ablove the increase in average salary and even more than disposable income!
Inflation, and nearly static salaries.
Well done for shining a light on this
