Add in the options that your fuel is shown so you can see how much fuel you have left, gonna be important for jets with afterburners later on, also add IAS which means speed relative to airflow not relative to ground, it helps you determine your speed better, so set indicated airspeed to tas+ias not just tas. Don't go after planes that are critically damaged like torn-off wings or already burning if you're not in the position to do it. From watching you control your plane I'm pretty sure you don't have extra keyboard binds for pitch up or down, it's crucial to have them for situational awareness which you need to always have on your side. With extra key binds for pitch, you can stay in a turn fight and look around you at the same time, you need to add it ASAP. I for example use left shift for pitch up and left control for pitch down. Use tracer or universal belts for your P-51H guns since they light everything on fire and fire can be a death sentence. Make use of your flaps more often. Enable "use rectangular radar indicator" it's easier to understand than the normal radar. Disable "join already active battles" it puts you in a bad position if you join a battle where people are already at 3km alt and you just took off. Enable "empty weapon containers automatic jettison" you don't want to have a bunch of empty rocket pods on your wings if all your rockets were already used. Set your autopilot for gunners and bombing sight mode to No, when playing a bomber you wanna be able to maneuver while manning the gunners (for this bit you'll need the pitch keybindings). To stop your plane from going into safety mode near the ground, go to controls -> aircraft -> movement -> scroll down til it says "instructor" in yellow -> disable "auto-restrict controls of the aircraft near the ground". You'll want 100% control over your aircraft. I've set my crosshair color to red since it's a better contrast from red on blue or white if your target is above you and you get the bright light of clouds in your face. Also, just a basic tip, if you're in a dive and you notice that you're about to crash into the ground and need to pull up, try to get slower, cut the throttle, and use flaps but not long only a split second, you don't want to rip your flaps you want to get slower cuz getting faster when you're already too fast to pull out of a dive is not the way cuz it'll only close the distance to the ground faster. You can also use your gear as an airbrake you don't need it to land if you know how to do a belly landing. There's also another thing you can do to cut the throttle like an airbrake for props, it's called prop pitch some planes have it, but not all, it's hard to explain cuz some planes react differently to prop pitch than others some can climb better with higher prop pitch some just overcook the engine with higher prop pitch it solely depends on the plane. Just picture this, you're flying a BF 109 G-2, your airfield is 10km away you're at 2000m alt and your engine is black so no throttle at all, in this scenario, you wanna put your prop pitch to 0% it will keep up your speed and you can glide back to base and repair without crashing. Or you're in a bomber and wanna go down but you have too much energy, simply put the prop pitch to 100% and let your props work like an airbrake, just NEVER use prop pitch 100% on BF 109's and have throttle higher than 0% it will wreck your engine in seconds. Also for using prop pitch, you need to get a key bind for manual engine control, to assign a key to change between auto control and manual control go to controls -> aircraft -> full-real controls and search for "engine controls mode". The button you'll set lets you switch between auto and manual even when you're not using full real control. If there are two enemy airfields, the first one is the smaller one, that one does not have any anti-aircraft guns, the main one in the back does, and they are deadly, always keep a safe distance and don't let people bait you into following them to their anti-air guns, it also works the other way around so if you're being chased, DO NOT!!! land at the first airfield, the enemy won't face anti-aircraft guns and can simply shoot your ass like a sitting duck, the small airfield is for landings if you're severely damaged or you just want to refuel or rearm and you're not being chased, if you're severely damaged AND being chased, still try to make it to the bigger airfield maybe the enemies will be scared away by your anti-aircraft guns maybe not but it's worth a try. If you shoot at a Ju-288C and a fire starts from its engine NOT THE WINGS if the wings burn it's a fuel fire, if the engine burns it's a dead plane in 99/100 cases not worth risking you getting hit by its gunners, or wasting ammo by still shooting at it. Hornet is not a jet, it's called an "air defense fighter" and therefore gets an air spawn above their airfield plus they have two very powerful engines. If you're going down and an enemy pulls away, do not search for a new target but pull up, get your speed back up, and try again with a different enemy or the same if he's close, but you don't want to sit beneath the whole enemy team cuz you spend all your energy in one dive. Your plane becomes stiff and maneuvers worse when you're at higher speeds so screaming and saying ass won't do much if you should've pulled up earlier or AT LEAST reduce speed when you really wanna go after another guy cuz he's on the 6 of a mate. If you're directly on the 6 of an AI plane and you wanna get a safe shot in, switch to cockpit view since the 3rd person gunsight is a bit lower than the actual gun placement, as you'll notice when you shoot at them from 3rd person your shots will go under them, if you shoot at them from cockpit view your shots will hit perfectly. In the situation of the Me 262 chasing you, with pitch key binds you could have looked behind you and still evaded his shots. When an enemy crashes, change chat to all with tab and activate numpad, then use left alt and type 254, then do the same again, hold left alt and type 9 on numpad, it's not useful but it will make fun of them. xD Trying to dogfight a Hornet with 1 MG round left is probably the dumbest shit I've ever seen in War Thunder ngl. Just some kind of useful knowledge from an experienced War Thunder player.
