Publisher's summary
A rigorously researched biography of the founder of modern magick, as well as a study of the occult, sexuality, Eastern religion, and more
The name “Aleister Crowley” instantly conjures visions of diabolic ceremonies and orgiastic indulgences-and while the sardonic Crowley would perhaps be the last to challenge such a view, he was also much more than “the Beast,” as this authoritative biography shows.
Perdurabo-entitled after the magical name Crowley chose when inducted into the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn-traces Crowley’s remarkable journey from his birth as the only son of a wealthy lay preacher to his death in a boarding house as the world’s foremost authority on magick. Along the way, he rebels against his conservative religious upbringing; befriends famous artists, writers, and philosophers (and becomes a poet himself); is attacked for his practice of “the black arts”; and teaches that science and magick can work together. While seeking to spread his infamous philosophy of, “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law,” Crowley becomes one of the most notorious figures of his day.
Based on Richard Kaczynski’s twenty years of research, and including previously unpublished biographical details, Perdurabo paints a memorable portrait of the man who inspired the counterculture and influenced generations of artists, punks, wiccans, and other denizens of the demimonde.

Panic in Detroit: The Magician and the Motor City
มุมมอง 3.3K13 ปีที่แล้ว
This montage kicked off Richard Kaczynski's opening remarks at the eighth biennial National Ordo Templi Orientis Conference (NOTOCON), which took place in Detroit in September of 2011. It recounts the rather silly panic in Detroit that followed Aleister Crowley's brief visit to the Motor City in 1918-1919. Hello friend, can I ask you a couple of things? I currently have a ni s61 mkii, and I would like to know, are the keys for the hydrasynth deluxe 73 of good quality? do they feel quality, do they make noise? and my last question is, could i use the hydrasynth as a midi controller to play vsts on pc? And could I configure the sensitivity of the keys and also the sensitivity of the aftertouch on the keyboard, if I use it with a midi controller via USB to the PC? or can I only configure the sensitivity for the internal sounds of the keyboard? Please, you will love to know your opinion. Thank you very much and a big hug from Spain.

Hi! What people like in a synth keyboard is very subjective. Overall, the build quality of the Hydrasynth Deluxe is very solid, and that goes for the keyboard, too. The keys are very quiet; they don't make that clacking sound common on a lot of unweighted synths. It doesn't feel like a weighted keyboard, but there's a little bit of resistance, which gives the action a kind of spongy feel. "Spongy" is often used in a negative sense, but I don't mean it that way, I just don't know how else to describe it. I think the keyboard feels good, a nice compromise between weighted and unweighted. The keys are very responsive, especially with polyphonic aftertouch. If you're able, I'd recommend trying it out somewhere to see if you like the keyboard action. It would definitely work as a controller for VSTs; especially if those VSTs support poly AT, as so few synths offer that capability (especially with 73 keys). I don't know offhand how the Hydrasynth would respond to AT from another MIDI controller; but if you intend to use the Hydrasynth with a different controller, you might consider the desktop module. ASM's recent firmware update has given the "regular" Hydrasynths some great new capabilities.

@@RichardKaczynski hello, thank you very much my friend, one question, can you configure the sensitivity of the keys, velocity curve... inside the hydrasynth? Does the keyboard have a built-in configuration menu? And if so, would the changes arise, using it as a midi controller via usb to use it with vsts?

2:38 Cool... won't be long before Korg and Roland Et al have to eat the bullet and bring it back.... many ways of doing POLY AT and would like to see a nice weighted "hammer action" version of the Hydrasynth in favor of synth needs with POLY AT rather than a "real" piano action generally used with foot pedals in place of aftertouch. Well done ASM!
