Rob Roy (1671-1734) Scottish freebooter, whose real name was Robert MacGregor. He is remembered chiefly as he figures in Sir Walter Scott's novel Rob Roy (1818). Deprived of their estates as a result of proscription, the MacGregors lived largely by stealing cattle and selling "protection." Because of the proscription, which was renewed in 1693, Rob Roy assumed his mother's name, Campbell. He ex...

There's a reason for such, don't exactly want to burden one with a paragraph... but a reminder would be how the square "covers" the compass in EA, and the compass covers the square in MM, signifying one to be a master mason, or one who can safely say they meet on the level (trying to explain this practically, hopefully this answers anything). By MM lodge I assume you meant mother lodges (blue lodge)

Posted by Alan Strom 'I Was Only 19' is an anti-war song. It's not a tribute to conscripted soldiers who were forced to fight. Their choice was to fight in an unjust War or go to Prison. When they returned home from Vietnam they were greeted at the airports by being spat on and being called 'baby killers' PTSD led many of them to commit suicide or become alienated from the people that loved them. In December 1972, the first two actions of the Gough Whitlam government were to 'Bring the troops home' from Vietnam and they abolished Conscription on 5th December 1972, which was 2 days after being elected. The withdrawal process was largely completed by early 1973 with all Australian troops returning home by 30 June. The following year, the United States did likewise. In 1975 North Vietnam defeated South Vietnam.

Also. The song was intentionally written and created to raise funds. Awareness. For the absolute lack of any assistance or acknowledgment of “The Agent Orange….elephant in the room!” My dads’ buddy Mr Phil Thompson was working hard bothering politicians. On all levels. Banging on doors. Worked himself to the point of….utter hopelessness. Despair. Took his life😔💜🙏🕊No consideration. Men who did what their leaders asked them to do. Loyal. For their country. No medical. No honour returned for their dedication. Bless you all🕊💕🙏blessings

@@justin1669 Finally, in December 1972, the Australian Whitlam Government officially declared the end of Australia's combat role in Vietnam. The withdrawal process was largely completed by early 1973, with all Australian troops returning home by 30 June 1973. Whitlam also abolished Conscription a couple of days after being elected.

@@justin1669 I think Justin is changing the dates to suit his political leaning to the right wing Liberal Party. Typical Liberal Party trying to take credit for the great changes that Labor make. From 1949-Dec 1972 Australia was in the dark. Prior to 1949, Curtin & Chifley were Labor heroes. Chifley was the Architect of the Snowy Mountain River Scheme, which was the beginning of the immigration intake of workers. These immigrant workers were automatic tax payers and consumers. A very clever move by the great Labor Prime Minister, Ben Chifley. The good people of Australia had to wait 23 years for another great hero, Gough Whitlam!!!!!! 1972-1975 saw hundreds of great social, cultural and economic changes to Australia's landscape. Out of the Dark and into the Light. Long LIve The Mighty Gough.

Totally false and spurious claims by you as is your reply to @justin1669. If you claim it an unjust war how do you justify one country being invaded by another, South Vietnam, a country in its own right, was being invaded by another. Would you argue that Russia invading Ukraine or Israel’s ongoing war and occupation of Palestine is justified? National Serviceman, to use their correct title, did not have the option as to whether or not they were sent to Vietnam. Regarding compulsory overseas service quoting from the NAA (National Archives of Australia) “The Defence Act was amended in May 1965 to provide that conscripts could be obliged to serve overseas, and in March 1966, Prime Minister Holt announced that National Servicemen would be sent to Vietnam to fight in units of the Australian Regular Army. Your claim in respect of the troops being withdrawn by Whitlam is also an untruth. I would refer you to the following Cabinet Minute in part, in particular para 5 of a Cabinet Minute. CABINET MINUTE Canberra, 26 July 1971 Decision No. 319 Without Submission - Withdrawal of Australian Force from Vietnam. The Cabinet took up the question of the future of the Australian forces in Vietnam. 4. Further, on the basis of the Defence Committee papers, including the minute of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the observations concerning the capacity of the South Vietnamese regular forces to maintain security, with particular reference to the capacity of local forces in Phuoc Tuy province, it took the view that early decision to withdraw the Australian forces was inevitable. 5. In the circumstances, it decided that it should move immediately to withdraw and to do so to an "accelerated" timetable. In respect of the Task Force it would be the objective that the first of the two remaining battalions be withdrawn in October 1971 and the second in December 1971. [Handwritten signature:] E.J. Bunting Secretary to Cabinet. From the DVA Anzac Portal “On 18 August 1971, Prime Minister Billy McMahon announced that the remainder of the Task Force would be withdrawn at the end of the year. Around 5,000 personnel and over 7,000 tonnes of equipment were withdrawn from South Vietnam in stages. Most Army combat troops and members of supporting arms (Navy, Air Force) were home by December 1971. Only small detachments providing logistics and security remained in the country until the Australian Military Forces, Vietnam, was disbanded on 5 March 1972. These troops arrived home on 6 March.” Yes, there was a small contingent remaining but this was a platoon to provide a Guard to the Australian Embassy.660 It should also be pointed out that Whitlam did not come into office until 5th December and did not abolish conscription. Once again to quote the DVA Anzac Portal. “Much later, the Defence Legislation Amendment Act 1992 repealed the National Service Act 1951, but the Keating Government retained conscription in a time of war with prior parliamentary approval.” Your ill-informed and incorrect comments do a great disservice to those who served, and more so those that gave their lives or were wounded. As an Ex Vietnam Veteran, National Service I find them to be extremely offensive.

The real reason why Wars occur will not be given to the public. The media will always tell you that "we are fighting in this War to defend and protect our freedoms and democracy" The exception is that the Nazis and the Fascists needed to be defeated. At the end of 1945 we were still left with an oppressive Capitalist system that commandeers the intellect and talents of its populous in order to make massive profits for a very small % of people. Wars are fought to protect the power, the money and the property of the wealthy people. Capitalism treats us like 'dogs' but still demands that we fight to protect their assets. The soldiers that are sent to foreign lands to fight are 'cannon fodder' When the major Wars ended, the governments urged and encouraged people to pro-create, so that they would have more 'cannon fodder' for future Wars. Korea, Vietnam, The Middle East, Afghanistan, The Gulf War, The Iraq War, Israel/Palestine......... Since the first peacekeepers left Australia for Yogyakarta (Indonesia) in September 1947, over 30,000 Australians have been involved in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations either under the Australian flag or as part of the United Nations. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP) have been involved in over a hundred operations (large and small), including Korea, the Middle East, Kashmir, Cyprus, Sinai, Cambodia, Namibia, the Western Sahara, Somalia, Rwanda and East Timor, providing forces and leadership for peace observation and enforcement, weapons destruction, demining, training, and disaster relief all over the world. Many Australians have been killed and maimed in these operations. Most of them were unnecessary involvements. The Australian Governments participate so they can build their image and 'goodwill' on the world stage. Of course we would want the World to come to our rescue if we were attacked or invaded. War...what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!! Say it again. Uuugh!
