What I love in this is how obviously bored Henry is having to listen to Klinger's crap yet again but courteously lets the whole spiel unfold and then, like the vice-principal at school, just reaches for the file.
Mash the tv show completely su** back then, and still does to this day...........The movie was it. Should have stopped right there. How ya like them apples???
Back in the 60s Klinger dressed up as a woman to convince his superiors of his mental unsuitability (in other words, insanity) in order to escape being in the army. Today, this kind of behaviour is endorsed and encouraged, much to the loss of real women and girls. Biology is genetic and can't be changed. People can do and dress how they like but this is not, and never will be, normal. Nor should it be.
I always wondered why Klinger wouldn’t have been sent home after the very first letter. Did the army confirm, that his dad wasn’t dead to begin with? If so,then I’d understand why he wasn’t sent home, for that one,or any of the others.
"Klinger aren't you ashamed of yourself?" "Yes sir, I don't deserve to be in the army." For me that was the best scene ever. Klinger just couldn't give up and exploited any angle he could. Way to go Max!
This cross dressing behavior was considered to be psychotic. That's the whole point of this character. What changed? Nothing. It's still psychotic behavior.
This scene makes fun of a serious matter. When my husband was in ICU we contacted the Red Cross to reach my son in Korea, so he could come home. He was able to come home and even got help with his rental car when there was a payment snafu. While I know this is comical, it is a real need for many of our men an women around the world.
“I hate to bother you in the middle of a war but I’m afraid I have some terrible news. Your father is very sick. If he knew I was writing to you he’d be very angry. Fortunately for us he’s in a coma.”
Priceless.

We were stationed in Germany when mash first made its debut and a Italian buddy of ours from Boston was just like klinger
BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!

😂 ❤
LOL... the only trouble is that if each of those letters represents a year, Klinger has been there for longer than the war!
Loving
Maybe he grew up poor, and they could only afford their tiny apartment by having 6 dads and 5 moms pool together to share the rent.
must be really sad how his family keep nearly dying so much. Especially the who were pregnant at the time. Very sad.
Season 1 was The Best.
The joke so nice they used it twice. Klinger tried to play Potter with this, with the same response.
Sit down and take the weight off your heels!!! 😂. Klinger, aren’t you ashamed of yourself? Yes Sir, I don’t deserve to be in the army!!! 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Classic.
Outstanding show…Seasons 1-3 Good show, seasons 4-6 Hot garbage seasons 7 onward.
I would flip "Good," and "Outstanding" but agree with the Hot Garbage thing with the exception of a few outstanding episodes
The Klinger letters, remind of Juan Epstein from Welcome Back Kotter’, always with the fake notes. Love it.
Signed Epstein's Mom! 😂
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dadd Yw ill🎉
👍🎉
Just look at Jamie Farr's face when he's being read all the past excuses. He's trying not to laugh. xD

Blake: "Klinger, aren't you ashamed of yourself?" Klinger: 'Yes sir. I don't deserve to be in the Army."

My family is always saying, "This is an oldie, but a goodie," as a catchphrase because of this scene. 😆
Sister dying and mother pregnant! 😮
Classic oldies. Love this show.
Dont know how i found this clip, but, this was just good tv.
Klinger is so honest when asked” aren’t you ashamed of yourself? “ He says yes sir 😆
One of my fave episodes!!! Thanks
Cpl. Klinger: the man who NEVER understood the concept of Catch-22.
"Klinger aren't you ashamed of yourself?" "Yes sir, I don't deserve to be in the army." For me that was the best scene ever. Klinger just couldn't give up and exploited any angle he could. Way to go Max!
This WHOLE clip is an "Oldie, But A Goodie!"
One of the funniest
I sent this to my manager who accepts sick cat vet trips as legit no show excuses.

So why do you do it ?

And there was one brief scheme Klinger did that he was pregnant.
Classic Klinger and Henry
I want to, but don't find any of this funny
😅
“I hate to bother you in the middle of a war but I’m afraid I have some terrible news. Your father is very sick. If he knew I was writing to you he’d be very angry. Fortunately for us he’s in a coma.”
One of the great sitcom scenes ever.
It was. The writing and acting were brilliant. The best ones though were with Col. Flagg. I DVR those.
Back when tv and the world was better than it is now.
One of my all time, favorite scenes from the show mash.
Loved Maclean Stevenson.
"Fortunately for us he is in coma"
So many topics and funny.
Love me some MASH…
Can’t blame a Guy for trying
You gotta give Klinger an A for effort
I love you all at mash and Gilligan's island
