Game 2 Chicago Cubs NLCS October 3, 1984 (raw video feed)

This had to be a very exciting game for Cubs fans only to be let down at the end of the series. There was excitement in Wrigleyville 40 years ago and you can't take that away. Harry Carey play by play is patched in at times.

Just more old school hockey with some regulars like Al Secord, Behn Wilson, and Jerome Dupont. Other players include; Steward Gavin, Bob McGill, Harold Snepps, Wendal Clark, John Kordic, Jay Miller, Chris Nilan, Dave Semenko and Basil McRae. Also included is an old school bench clearing brawl between The Chicago Blackhawks and The New York Rangers.

This video begins with a fight at the 10:00 minute mark of the first period between John Kordic and Jay Miller who then gives the Montreal bench "the finger" after the fight. The game then jumps forward to about the 4:00 minute mark of the second period and seems to have the remainder of the game played at the Boston Garden.

This is how they make a personal connection from TV stars to local channels across the country. It makes people warm and fuzzy that a "star" is talking directly to your home town. They still do this today.

Just more hard hitting "old school" professional hockey. Some players you'll see include; Tom Lysiak, Jerome Dupont, Behn Wilson, Al Secord, Keith Brown, Curt Fraser, Steve Ludzik, Willi Plett, Bobby Clarke, Paul Holmgren, Ron Delorme, Dwight Schofield, Gary Nylund. The editing of the fights were done many years ago the old fashion way between 2 VCR's.

What they don't say is how much he did for all players forever by going to court to win freedom from the stranglehold of the NHL owners. When he signed with the Winnipeg Jets, he not only made a team, he made history for the NHL. He also signed more autographs and made more people happy than you could ever imagine, especially my family and I. RIP Bobby, and thank you so much for everything!

Great stuff. A few things I noticed. Didn’t know Verbeek started in NJ, or that but Cam Neely & Tomas Sandström started in Vancouver. Also, with the Savard v Brian Propp fight, I wonder if Propp got teased in the Flyers locker room for wearing his fishnet top under his jersey.😂 Oh, and a lot of those big guys, Ben Wilson, in particular, barely wore shoulder pads. Delhorme vs Secord was a great fight, as was Ben Wilson vs McClelland. The Glen Andersson slap shot that Bannerman took to the face was wild, and an almost comical reaction. Tough dudes, all of them. The late 70’s-early 90’s players were a different breed. As it’s been said, a lot if them were straight up just mean dudes on the ice. Terrifying, in every possible way, having to play against them.

In 2000-2001, Mario Lemieux scored 35 goals in just 43 games. He actually scored at the same per game rate in the 2000 - 2001 season than in the 1980s. That tells you that 'modern hockey' isn't better than 1980s hockey.
