What's growing in my Hydroponics Garden
I’ve always been an advocate for keeping high-nutrient plants and low nutrient plants in separate reservoirs. As of today, I've definitely proven that you can grow all of them in the same reservoir successfully if you do two things all day, every day!
My experiments began with two LG towers.
Tower 1: A delightful jungle of tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, cilantro, basil, lettuce, chrysanthemum, onion, etc.. (A true garden party!)
Tower 2: Strawberries and bush beans-a hilariously mismatched duo. Bush beans are like the bodybuilders of the plant world, demanding a buffet of nutrients, while strawberries are content sipping on their dainty tea.
Despite their polar-opposite personalities, I cracked the code to keep both thriving:
Master the art of EC and pH Zen: Keep EC between 1.4-1.8 and pH at a sweet 6.5, all day, every day. An additional circulation pump is needed so the nutrient water is continuously aerated and mixed.
Never let the reservoir cry for help: Don’t let it drop more than a third. Top it off as often as needed then adjust the EC/pH accordingly.
All these plants are about 8 weeks old, grown from seed, and some-like beans, cabbage, lettuce, and herbs-already started giving back at just 6 weeks.
Pro tip: Continuous monitors/controllers are your besties if you want a hands-off experience. Without them, you’ll be babysitting your EC/pH levels 1-3 times a day, especially when the plants hit their dramatic fruiting phase.
This method is best used in set-ups with large capacity reservoirs.
What I use:
Masterblend 3part tomato formula, pH down, FON(hypochlorous acid) for sanitizing(every 1-2weeks), Milwaukee controllers/monitors.
😁 Happy Gardening! 😁

How did you do your light connectors ❤
I designed and 3d printed LED light mounts so I can add more lights.
@jermee that's pretty neat nice job
Which nutrients are you using?
This used Gardyn nutrients, double the nutrients recommended and pH checked and adjusted daily.
Thanks for sharing
Impressive indoor jungle
How made this please share with me the details
Whoa i am beyond impressed how healthy those l3aves look
Thanks! a stable pH and EC keeps the plants happy
Did you hand pollinate?
Yes, I use the brush to pollinate, sometimes I just break off the male flower and brush it against the female flower. You can also buy zucchini seeds that are parthenocarpic - plants don't need pollination.
Brilliantly done.
That’s awesome💖🫡
Are you still around?
Hi there, I made it using stuff I already have, so it's a prototype. I already deleted the 3D printer file, it was so long ago. You should be able to make one using vibration motor(2430 vibration motor-lookup on Amazon) attached to a sieve. I don't check on comments often, sorry about the late reply.
Would you be able to make me one of these?
Very nice!!
This is pretty clever, a DIY powder sifter for super cheap out of easy to get parts. There really aren't too many resources out there and the cheapest I found so far required 100+ in parts.
how do i buy these i had this idea for a dnd game and i really want the minis to sell the absurdity
Thank you so much for your documentation! I am super sad to see these updates go. Do you remember when you harvested the next batch? Have you considered some sort of rotation to the system so you always get tomatoes? I will definitely be referencing your notes and videos in the future for my own hydroponic garden. Now off to see if you did a video series on cucumbers…… 😊
I guess it’s a silly question to ask when you harvested your next round. I forgot your first harvest was day 77. So your next harvest should have been somewhere around 275-85 or so….
Thanks! I should probably post the last 11th tomato harvest video, I've forgotten about it...lol I had to cut the tomato growing short because I wanted to start my onion/squash experiment... 😂I waited for a few weeks to see if I can get the most out of the plants before I tossed them. I had one last 11th harvest on Aug 04 - Day 290 the weight was 9.8lbs, most of the tomatoes were ripe. It took almost 2months for the plants to bounce back after heavily pruned. I haven't done rotations on tomatoes cause I plan on canning them for sauces/salsa. So my tomato goal has always been to harvest a large quantity. You should give it a try and do rotations, especially now that you can see how often you have to wait for a harvest with these varieties. You can definitely do rotation planting in the gardyn. You can plant 1-3 tomato plants every week, until all the slots are filled. The Tiny Tim and Aerogarden tomato plants can last a whole year or more if you take care of them and regularly trim the old leaves. They may take some time to regrow new foliage, but once they do get a trim, they will bounce back.. The plant will show signs(it'll look withered and full of old worn out leaves) when it's ready for a heavy pruning. I don't think I will do a cucumber video series..They're one of the most finicky plants I've ever encountered... Almost all varieties have a different pH sweet spot, especially if you want to continuously harvest more than 4 cucumbers at a time... 😂
Are these the gardyn prepackaged kids or your own seeds ?
The yellow tomatoes are saved seeds from plants originally bought from my Aerogardens. The tiny tim I bought on seedsnow. The original mother seeds were bought several years ago and I just keep saving seeds to grow the next generation of plants.
Ok. I need to get this. LOL!
Genius idea!!
Nice video
🌺🌿🌻🙏
looking forward to seeing your tomatoes.

❤❤❤
you took out the middle tower and made a addition for large tomatoes .........wow
your a brainiac in hydro lol
Thanks! I've been growing vegetables in hydroponics since 2016 and I love learning all about it.
wow, this is incredible, you are so smart about these things! I just about stopped regretting buying a gardyn! specially when it stopped watering when they have app problems! The pump you linked is not available anymore, and i didn't see one that had the same specification, can you post a link to another one that will work with this? again, thanks so much!
This is so great, thank you! I have a question, gardyn, you have the pump in the reservoir, and there is another black "disk"? on the bottom. What is that for? Do you use something different than a T connector at the end? At this point I'm only wanting to put the gardyn... I think. Not sure how well it would work adding the farm since the reservoir is so much shallower.
I'm not sure what you mean about a "black disk". This is what's in the Gardyn Reservoir, a circulation pump(Left), a small black pump+Clear vinyl tube(for draining the tank - Right), and the white float valve(Right). I use an elbow connector at the end of the blue tube so the tube doesn't kink. Back when I had an AG Farm, I've thought of using Battery Float Valves. I was thinking I could mount it onto the lid. They are small enough to fit and shouldn't interfere much with the plant roots. Just an idea, they come in different sizes...
@@jermee hm, interesting about a different float. Thanks for your response, and Video! With hubby's help, I will start with the gardyn and go from there 😁
What is your spacing like on the Gardyn for tomatoes, do you skip rows? I am looking at setting mine up in a similar way, Thanks!
I'm growing dwarf varieties so I don't need to skip rows. I do skip the middle column. I prefer to leave the middle column empty for a better air flow once the plants grow more foliage.
What system is that? Looks great!
The system is called the Gardyn version 1.0 - mygardyn.com/
wow how did you extend the lights with bars?
I designed and 3D printed them ☺️
omg Mswelsh, are you an engineer? wow
nope, I'm just a hobbyist who enjoys tinkering on stuff. I learn the stuff from the internet and very helpful people sharing their knowledge to the world.
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing this. I am so new to electric work. EDIT: oops, I saw in your description that you can’t advise anybody on how to do this! I am not sure which of those connectors on the circuit board go to what.
Here's a picture of the schematic of how everything is connected, hope it helps. ignoramusbyday.files.wordpress.com/2023/04/zcircuit-gardyn.png
What would you say your yield is on the cucumber plants?
Can't really say, I had issues with the roots on this particular one. I was testing them with the 3D printed column, at first they seemed okay, but as they got big, the roots required more frequent watering, which I couldn't accommodate because all the columns ran on the same pump. I didn't want to risk hiving leaking issues with the pepper's ypods. So I tried to fix the issue by adding a cup for the cucumber roots to sit in just like the ypod cup in the gardyn. The cucumbers didn't seem to like that. The cucumber started struggling and then eventually got root rot, so I had to toss it out. I will try again next time, once I modify this gardyn with a dedicated pump just for the cucumber.
Do the tomatoes taste good? Your plants look gorgeous!
Thanks! We like the way they state. I don't like suuper sweet tomatoes or extra tart. I'd say they are in between. We eat them in salads, taco, etc....
Your plants are soo happy
Thanks!
Woww!! I would love to learn more about how you trellis this
I made some caps that goes on the top column. Here's the STL file to 3d print it. www.thingiverse.com/thing:5383799. But you can also just get the 3/8"x48" Steel Round Bar from home depot and zip tie it to the Gardyn's aluminum bars...😁 www.homedepot.com/p/3-8-in-x-48-in-Plain-Steel-Round-Rod-801597/204273966
They look good
thanks!
Love it! What are you using for your nutrients?
They started with Maxigro. I've switched them to the 3-part Masterblend once they started fruiting.
Amazing! Is It an ebb and flow system? Which kind of substrate do you use? I see expanded clay what Is the other thing?
yup, simple ebb and flow with clay pebble. I 3d printed a fitting for this container, but you can buy the ebb&flow fittings on amazon amzn.to/3Ihi6da
@@jermee thanks, amazing how the roots expanded in the container
Wow, amazing system
i love this video! It is so relaxing to watch you harvest the tomatoes. Great music, too! Where did you buy your seeds? I am thinking about getting a Gardyn but I want to start seeds before I get one. Tomatoes take awhile to grow to any size.
Thanks! I save the seeds every time I've grown them, but I got the original seeds from Aerogarden.com - Golden Harvest(2019) and Seedsnow.com - Tiny Tim(2017).
Oatey 39100 Knock-Out Dwv Test Cap, 2 in, 17 Psi, Abs, 2 inch, White, I found these caps in home depot , to cover the ports im not using for plants, at 63cents a piece, they fit perfect.
Thank you so much!
Thank you, what a boss.
Glad to know it worked!
Clever and courageous to adapt your high dollar systems for simple refills.
I definitely favor convenience and ease of maintenance more than anything, even if I have to break them... 🤣
Well done. Looks amazing. You have a great setup.
Thank you very much!
You are going to get me in trouble. Now I want another Gardyn just to fill with tomatoes. 🤣
Gotta have one just for tomatoes!! It's worth it for tomatoes. I wish they would sell a larger reservoir.
@@jermee Keith said he was looking at adding a float to have it refill from an external container. Didn't you add something like that?
Nice to see another use than just lettuce. Beautiful plants!
Thanks Matt! I consider it an on going battle, trying to find small plants to grow in such a small space :)
Nice set up
Thanks!
Very cool!
Which do you like more the farmstand or the gardyner? And why? I’m Thinking about get one.
I love them both. I pick the system that would grow my plants well. Gardyn for tomatoes, peppers, beans, etc.. I like the plant spacing and how I can prune easily. It's easy to trim the roots as the plant matures. The Farmstand, I like for leafy greens, strawberries, plants that don't grow massive roots or foliage.
