super interesting. What about contact cement (the old school one with solvent that smells like ass)?
A big thank you to Jon Siegel! I'm thinking of getting into turning and his great guidance is VERY useful.
No joke, but we Americans are soo much happier knowing you know who just got re elected. It's time to make shavings!
I have a project coming up where centering is critical and this is now my go to method! Thank you.
I attended the show and it was great. My toddler is really enjoying the Ted Blachly stool that I won in the auction. It's great to hear from the craftsmen themselves. Thanks for sharing.
CONGRATULATIONS to ALL the winners !!
A true gift of knowledge sharing from years of experience. Priceless! Thank you.
I'm grateful for the video, sir.
Awesome presentation
Wow, spectacular class, thanks for recording & posting this, very much appreciated!
Good video. Soon, I will be trying a long piece between two scroll chucks, and having the tailstock chuck in a slight negative tension. I can't wait to try it out.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful video .... Thanks!
Great idea.
Great presentation and answers to questions. Keep it up!
Excellent tips, thank you
Thanks for sharing, learned a ton! There was a question at 59:30 about the purpose of the extra tanks in the vacuum setup, I can shed some light for the curious. If we can imagine the inside of the vacuum bag like the inside of the room they're standing in, we can also imagine that the moisture present in the wood and glue is like a handful of rice grains. When we start pulling a vacuum those grains of rice expand to something like the size of a beach ball - this is the liquid water changing state to vapor. All of a sudden our room is becoming very full, and can even build pressure if enough moisture is present. Adding those additional tanks changes that small room into a huge arena. Now there's plenty of room for our beach balls and all the extra space we need to not build pressure. Then there's the million dollar question - is it really necessary? Well, that depends on how much moisture we're putting in the system and how long it needs to remain under vacuum. If you don't have the tanks and you do have a lot of moisture, you can always just kick the pump back on to clear out some "beach balls" if necessary!
Great information, thank you.
Sorry can't watch this the breathing under that mask I'm assuming there's a mike there but sounds ds like darth vader
Today, it is soo sad to see the new crap for sale on ebay. Poor quality steel.
Guys, get off your butts and support this channel. Geesh
Get really good at using scrapers with burrs. Any torn end grain will be noticeable after you apply your stain and finish.
Nice video. Guys, if you want the younger crowd to join in then a push to also have CNC included is a must.
I have to say I love this guy, one of the best tutorial presentations of the spindle gouge that I have seen and I have watched quite a few. Reminds of my shop teacher back in the 70s and now that I am in my 50s I have just gotten back into woodworking and woodturning. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
Wonderfully concise instructions. No extraneous talk to distract from the vital content! Thanks
What a great tip! Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful
Thankyou so much.
WOW! Master class on spindle turning. It was a deep dive on entry, tool angles, hand and body position, and on and on...WOW! I didn't want it to end. Thanks, I needed that.

This is an amazing class. Very clear and easy to understand. love it. Does Jon Segal have a youtube channel?
Thank you for explaining the process so well I have learnt a great deal from this video.
1 option you never mentioned is for a new turner to learn to turn ambidextrous.Which would be much easier when your a newbie.
Moving foot to left, when cutting left was helpful..spent 3 hours learning making first bowl. I was not ready..found you helpful. I kept telling teacher..i am stuck..68 lady learning how..love turning..
Why isn't everyone doing this instead of those crazy complicated wheel contraptions??
New sub , best idea I've seen on shaving benches...thanks and God bless you and yours...
Very well done. I wish this video had been available 10 years ago

The normal push/shear cut never came up? But lots of scraping.
John & camera guy, Amazing job, for me as a beginner it was a wealth of info. My only question & maybe i missed a section, what speeds RPM were you running the practice pieces at ? Regards Dave
