Tyre rack for the Tandem trailer Part 2
This is part 2 of Modifying a Tandem 'off the lot' car trailer. I purchased a standard no frills car trailer for the Evo Lancer we have been putting together. I am modifying it to have the necessary components needed for a competition car trailer. In this video we build the tyre rack and start to get it setup on the trailer, the trailer will be carrying the Mitsubishi Evo 8 Lancer gravel rally car. Hope you enjoy it and part 3 will be up soon.

I had this BMW and really didn't have a use for it so it sat unused under a tree for about 2 years. I decided it was time to move it on but first I had to get it started.

George Fury/Jamie Drummond Datsun FJ24 120Y - Sold
มุมมอง 91410 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Fury/Drummond Datsun 120Y has moved on. The new owner doesn't want to be mentioned at this stage but the car will stay in Victoria and will be at next year's Rally Retro. It will be kept as it is but will get a few outings in the Rally world. I am happy and relieved we were able to secure a buyer that wants the car for what it is, look after it and use it. I never intended to use it, the wh...

Project BMW E36 Rallycar. The day started well and was a success but we did have a few issues, found out that the radiator was too small for the job, then a pulley on the harmonic balancer came loose but the day was brought to an end when as had another hydraulic lifter fail. Nice work. Love seeing you showing off your welding skills Steve. 👍
Thanks Rick-Ak5r, part 3 will be up soon, not so much welding in that one though.
I love watching the whole fabrication bit, now I want to see part 3!!
Thanks @johnfont7923 part 3 will be along soon.
First #. What is the running weight of the e36 bmw.. Redy to run Be interesting to know..and hp
Thanks RodNod, it has been a long time sense I weighted the BM but I think it is around 1260kg, the engine is a M52TUB28 (2.8L) and it made 239hp at the flywheel.
Would love to know what you got the weight down to...in redy to run trim. And HP..nice
Great car !!! The look is super slick & sporty . Love the sound of the engine & I was very impressed & fortunate to have a sit inside this beautiful car. 😊
Thanks LeonieGreenbury, I'm happy you enjoyed sitting in it and giving the engine a rev😀
Sounds amazing!
Thanks Luke, yes I loved the sound when I heard it back when editing it!
Great job Steve! Yet another KME masterpiece! Im sure your customer will be very pleased!
Thanks Dan, he is pleased I just have to deliver it to him!!
From 5:32 you look like your enjoying yourself🤣🤣🤣
Thanks John, yes I was!
Well done Steve, car looks great 👍
Thanks Craig😀
Great work Steve. The Evo sounds great and looks a well balanced setup. I’m sure the customer will be very pleased. KME delivers again!
Thanks Rick, yes it's differently well balanced.
The second KME video in a week, how good is this.
Thanks again John, I'll try and get a few more out again soon.
So is this another trailer? I like watching you cut the holes what happens next
I read the KME Facebook post, so I thought I better come have another look.
Thanks John, yep I took it down and changed the music, all ok now.
Car looked great, bad luck about the engine.
Good video, you are for a input of your trailer, the shackles maybe better to wield on 5mm angle iron then wield on to box tube, this stops, box tube, ing from cracking,
Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for your comment.
Hey mate just a question, haven’t watched all your videos, but I’m interested to know when you go to register it how it goes about getting accepted and determining a load rating for the trailer? Cheers
Hi, when I did this trailer you applied to Vicroads for a Vin number. New regs have now come into law so you will have to contact Vicroads and get the current details, sorry I don't have any more information. Thanks for your comment.
Sad to see.. Nut on the oil pump pulley came un done as they do??? Locktite and wire them on
Yes the nut totally spun off. I have video of the repairs but haven't put it together yet, I purchased an upgrade oil pump shaft kit from the USA. Thanks for your comment.
Nice job great welds too
Thanks I appreciate your great comment, hope you enjoyed the whole trailer series.
What car is for originally this shocks?
Hi AHTOHU4, the shocks are a Evo Lancer fitment but the manufacture DMS supplied this to specifically fit the BMW. They provided a drawing to make the adaption to the BMW which I used to machine the part required. They could have provided the part but this is one of the things I do in my business Kaitler Motorsport Engineering (KME) so I made them in house.
@@Kaitler_Motorsport_Engineering thanks for answer, good luck in your deals
Hi Steve great video, bummer about the damage but that's motorsports (expensive). I done a walk around on the 120Y if you're interested. Dan
Great in-car KME, what a shame about the engine-did someone say 'LS the world'....🤔😆
Great to watch, bummer about the car. I’m looking forward to seeing the next races
Was a fantastic day, until the end that is!
That is some impressive work but in my eyes and probably legally it is no longer Geoff Portmans old car and a different car with Geoff’s old roll cage
Well it was that or no car at all, but when you sit in the car you will be sitting in the seat Geoff sat in, your feet will be on the floor Geoff's feet were on and you'll be looking at the dashboard Geoff looked at while holding the steering wheel Geoff held. The car hasn't been restored and any part that could be reused has been down to the fuel tank mounts that we cut from the damaged section and used again. But thank you for the comment and taking the time to watch the video, we do appreciate it.
I get that but you would of got the same result with a complete reshell with a lot less work The thought of reusing that roll cage then actually doing it after a crash that big blows my mind And after reading the history of Geoff’s Datsun 1600 that was reshelled multiple times it just doesn’t make sense to fix that body shell But that is just my thoughts and I hope it all goes well and car is enjoyed when finished
Hi Steve, I've finally done a quick walk around the 120Y, not the best video but it'll give you and idea 👍 th-cam.com/video/zsWWZiztmtw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9w2eSwH_5Mpe7T9G
Nice looking trailer did you make plans for it or just did it on the fly ?
Thanks for the great comment @mahmoudsankari3842, I built the trailer from experience as I have built quite a few over time. I have been asked for plans and details but I have none drawn, there are detail's of the axle set outs in other replies. Thanks for watching.
This track is awesome I wish it wasn’t on the other side of the world :(
Thanks for watching Daniel, the race is a great experience 👍
I loved it too and I have that picture at the end as my background on my office computer.
Thanks Virginia, yep I like that photo too.
Pretty impressive at peddling that car Steve and the motor sounds great 👍
Thanks Dan, looking forward the the next rally.😀
Another great walk around video Steve, your back mudflap is falling off.
I must of missed this one, great look at the workshop.
Great video that incar looks awesome and I love the last picture of the car at the very end!!
Thanks John, I'll try and get some more incar up soon.
🔥
Coming along very nicely Steve 👍
Thanks Dan, yes slowly but surely progressing!!
Man can't wait for this car to be finished, great video by the way, what's the name of the music??
Thanks for your comment John, yes looking forward to it being finished too. The music is called 'Never Play' by Jeremy Blake.
Good to see it moving along.
💪💪💪👍👍👍
Great work Steve.
Thank you @Nishimachi_Photography, we are looking forward to getting it back onto its wheels again and ready for paint.
Great job by all the helpers 👍
Thanks Dan, we are looking forward to getting it to the next stage!
Great work Steven.
These guys are quite talented to restore thid historically significant car back to a condition better than before. Before the crash. Now it will be able to enjoy an ongoing life as a rallycat. Keep up the excellent work guys. Just shows what can be done. Not just throw it away to the wreckers. True talented enthusiasts.
Thanks Peter, can't wait until were all in Kinglake bolting it back together.
That was fun picking you the blue car body😅
Yes it was 🙂
Ah no, its too short I wanted to see more. Longer next time please!!
Great Video! Why’d you have it sitting so long in the first place? Greetings from Germany
Thanks for the comment, I have built one as a rally car that I compete in the Victorian club rally championship so people tend to offer me there unused BMW's for parts or what ever I need. This one was still in running condition and I never really knew what to do with it. After this clean up I put it on Facebook Marketplace and it sold in a couple of days, this is one of the videos of the rally car th-cam.com/video/4MsPDLdOHVY/w-d-xo.html
The parts look great after the clean up.
Wow that started great, amazing after the clean up! How many miles did you say the new owner drove it back home?
Amazing how trouble free it started Steve and looked pretty good after the bath 👍
Yes I was amazed
Nice video, sad to see Grant there.
Nice clean workspace
