Long range off grid comms- Meshtastic over HF
Hamtastic is meshtastic sent over HF.
Now 200 miles is possible with a single node.

I have this working 99% now it seems. Mesh to js8call works perfect every time but js8call to mesh I've only been able to get a couple of messages passed. Guessing it's an fldigi issue. If I try to open it in the pi it opens and then disappears right away.
Awesome, I love to hear this. Fldigi isn’t very reliable, idk why. One of those things I’ve got to work on. The code works, fldigi is temperamental. For JS8call I connect directly for best results

If its over HF, its global coverage. But depends on antenna, time of day, frequency, Etc. Great stuff! Maybe APRS to meshtastic bridge might be the way to go too..
What kind of range and bandwidth are you able to get out of it?
Just depends on your antenna and band conditions but not uncommon for people to get 200 miles from NVIS qrp(low power)

thats more variation in the reading than you were expecting?
It was consistently decreasing when it should be staying the same I reached out to masso and they created a firmware for me with a fix. It worked and since has been rolled out to the general public.
@@TheWatchMker Hey Matt, I've been watching your videos and your C3D thread on flood coolant. I recently got an HDM myself and am designing a full metal enclosure and plan on using flood coolant system. Do you have a full build thread with pictures of where you landed for your HDM? TIA

Yes this is normal. you are moving the antenna so the readings are going to change. Keep in a stationery position and it will not change.

@@CryoftheProphet shapeoko 4 pro. I would say the 1f is comparable in stiffness to the shapeoko 3 but with ball screws

What kinda setup is this. Do you run mach3? And how you get the tools change to work?? What kinda price is it for maahine like this. Have a small hobby one. But would like to have something more rigid.
Carbide HDM, running clearpath on an acorn controller and a tool changing spindle. Expensive
what ATC spindle are you using?
Any chance you have the link to the tool setter? Would it be easy to connect it to the new elite series?

Yes! Very similar to what I did for my tormach! It catches and washes away all the chips and ensures lubrication. The “piss on it from one side” approach was awful. Well done!

I did too! I ended up emailing him quite a bit to discuss some design elements. Finally designed and made one for both mine and my sons Tormachs. Fox was super helpful and very kind to share and offer his input.

@@TheWatchMker really?!? Well, it depends on what you're doing with it. If you're trying to machine stainless on it, yeah, it's gonna suck. If you're doing plastics, composites or various species of wood it's going to do great. All depends on what you're trying to do.
@@JF32304 I just meant for how much it costs and what they portray. Other options are way better in terms of rigidity. I also changed the controller because their stock one is garbage as well. Even plastics and composites. I mean I cut wood on this and I wish I went with something else. I’ve also cut a bunch of aluminum and plastic. It’s possible but better options exist for the same price or less.

I use this primarily for wood actually. I just wanted it to be versatile for plastic and metal if I need it

I had a 407k that popped up the 507k reticule but wouldn’t let me change out of it then also wouldn’t let me change the brightness. Holosun replaced it quick!
What causes it to weld like this when it fine for the majority before hand?
The mist cools the cut off aluminum and tool so they don’t heat and weld together. It went in an area where it was getting not enough cooling mist and bam, gummed up. Part of living on the edge

this channel is my new obsession, id really really like to get my machine up to this level. if youve the time, could you make a list of links to materials or products used to build the fixturing on your table? i know you mentioned in an earlier videos comment section the Z axis plate was made by yourself but anything els info wise would be amazing. this is truly the most advanced 1F ive ever seen my dude bravo 10/10
Thanks brother. this isn’t actually a 1f, this is a shapeoko HDM. The other machine in the videos is a 1f. I have a whole build thread on carbide3d forums

@@TheWatchMker curious why you switched to an HDM after all of the effort modifying/ setting up the 1f?
@@urlocher54 the 1f was very underwhelming in terms of performance. Thankfully I found a use for it and it’s a dedicated machine now for wood products and the HDM is way way way better in terms of aluminum usage
I'm glad to see the HDM back up and running and look forward to seeing what kind of feeds you can run in steel with the BT30 clear path setup
Other breeds like Dobermans, Danes, and Boxers may require 4-6 months of proper taping after surgery until the ears will stand. I wish it only took like 3 days
