FatCatTech is a channel heavily based around camcorder reviews and test footage, future expansion possible.
I made this because it can be difficult to find test footage for a lot of camcorders, and you might want to know what you're buying.
I make new videos when I can, but that may mean that they're months apart from time to time.
Curious about test footage that might've not fit in with these videos, or perhaps random home videos I've recorded with some of these camcorders? You can check them out here: www.youtube.com/@WashFox/featured

Sony Handycam HDR-CX100: Test Footage
A review for this camcorder is pending (as is also the case with the DCR-DVD300), not sure when or if I'll be able to finish it, work has been keeping me busy these days, which is why I have, once again, not been able to maintain a consistent schedule. Oh well.
Like the test footage? Have your own opinion on the HDR-CX100? Be sure to leave a comment or engage with other commenters, just be kind to each other, please.

Sony Handycam DCR-IP5/IP7: Test Footage
มุมมอง 5262 หลายเดือนก่อน
Part of Sony's lineup of MicroMV camcorders, the DCR-IP5 and IP7 offered the interesting styling that the MicroMV units were known for, this particular flavor being a pistol-grip type (Arguably the least unique of them, however). This unit, in spite of being sold at a premium in 2001, was lacking a number of more important features, like NightShot, or a touchscreen, or a means of navigating the...
Sony Handycam DCR-DVD300: Test Footage
มุมมอง 8663 หลายเดือนก่อน
The early 2000's were a time of electronic innovation and experimentation, especially within the realm of video recording. Analog formats like VHS and Hi8 were becoming antiquated, and brands like Sony were in hot pursuit of something new. Enter the DCR-DVD300, released in 2003 with its sisters, the DCR-DVD100 and DCR-DVD200, Sony's first units to record directly to DVDs. Can these units stand ...
Sony Cybershot DSC-S600: Test Footage and Pictures
มุมมอง 9694 หลายเดือนก่อน
TEST PICTURES: imgur.com/a/sojYjv5 Portable, pocketable, but capable, the DSC-S600 was released in 2006 to positive critical response. The video is, naturally, acceptable for its time, being 640 x 480 at 30 FPS, it's about on par with competition from Canon. Granted, a camera like this wasn't necessarily bought for video purposes, that ended up being more incidental with the rise of video-shari...
Sony Handycam DCR-DVD405: Test Footage
มุมมอง 1.4K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD405 was part of the company's 2006 lineup of Handycam camcorders, along with it came the DCR-DVD805. The DVD405 and DVD805 are identical to one another. The units featured a 3.31 megapixel image sensor (with a effective pixel count of 2.05 megapixels for 4:3 video recording, and 2.06 for 16:9). The lens on this unit (paired with its 1/3-inch CCD image sensor) has been q...
Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108: Test Footage
มุมมอง 3.8K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108 was released in 2007 alongside the DCR-DVD308, DVD608, and DVD708. These models were of the last few release years of Sony's standard definition DVD lineup, only being superseded by 2008's DVD610/DVD710/DVD810 and 2009's DVD650/DVD850. Overall, the video is painfully average for standard definition, with a lens that doesn't do too many favors. It's possible to make ...

The line of camcorders dating back to the mid-80s, with an iconic debut in Back to the Future! Does JVC's GR-AX810 and GR-AX910 camcorders stand up to their predecessors? In case you're wondering, the only difference between the GR-AX810 and the GR-AX910 is that the 910 has a color viewfinder. I have one of each of these models (hence the intro in which the camera films itself). I had used the ...
Sony Bloggie MHS-FS1: Review and Test Footage [720p60 mode]
มุมมอง 7847 หลายเดือนก่อน
Sony's rocky start* in the pocket camcorder market, with the NSC-GC1 camcorder, cemented an unfavorable position for them amongst the point-and-shoot video consumers. Their reiteration of the idea with the Webbie, the MHS-CM1, ultimately, did not help their case. Sony tried once more with the release of the first Bloggie units, the MHS-PM5 & MHS-CM5, which, unfortunately, still did not quite gr...
Canon Powershot S95: Test Footage

Canon celebrated the turn of a new decade by releasing a slew of updated cameras and camcorders. Among the lineup of professional DSLRs, consumer camcorders, and the occasional budget point-and-shoot, one line in particular stands out: The “S” series powershot cameras. 2009 saw the introduction of this series with the S90, a slightly more affordable point-and-shoot camera with features that riv...
Samsung HMX-F90: Test Footage II

A camcorder which I had originally made a video about quite a number of years ago! Would you believe that this video was made entirely by accident? That's because I thought I was filming with a Samsung HMX-F80, not an F90. Likewise, expect a video at some point showing test footage from a Samsung HMX-F80.

Thanks for watching my video :D REVIEW IN THE PINNED COMMENT (It was too big for TH-cam's description length). That’s an amazing result. I found mine CX160 just laying around after almost 10 years… your video just gave me motivation to go and film something! And by any way, do you remember what settings did you use do achieve a footage like this?
Interesting. Mine was the HC26. Wonder if any differences.
Hi, Can someone please help me? My lens cover doesn't open. Can someone have a solution? I have tried everything. I also cannot find where to reset it, so that might help.
i have the same camera, love to see your pov behind it, you have good taste filming!
Good reviews ❤🎉
Oh ok now this is becoming more intimidating to go over tbh fwiw or toimagine being in the photographers shoes 2:51
do you remember the tape stock you used?
Usually I have comments turned off but I just wanted to say, you make some very good test footage. Well done!
The 16:9 is squished to 4:3 because NTSC camcorders tend to record both aspect ratios at the exact same dimensions and probably stores the real aspect ratio in the metadata. From my experience, video editors such as iMovie, puts them back to their original aspect ratios in post.
I have one flip video ultra model U1120
what converter software did u use
Have the s90
is there a difference btwn Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108( the camera in the video) and Sony Handycam DCR-DVD608( the camera i have)
As far as I can tell, they're identical, may be different models released for different regions.
Does this take Hi8 or is it only compatible with regular 8mm?
i cant find vcr setting on sony dcr trv14e please help :(
How do i view the video/pics?
I got this cam as a bday gift and i cant wait to recrod some footage on it!
Is that your Saturn coupe?
It is, it replaced my 96 Ford Explorer as my commuter car. Still have the Explorer, just not for driving to work haha
It took me until now to realize you asked about the *coupe*, no, the coupe is my brother's, the blue sedan is the one that's mine haha
Always excellent demos. I always wish there were more shots of people, but I understand that it makes things more complicated. Well done!
I have one but i don't know what charge cable i need for it, can someone help?
I had one of these. That was the camera that made me fall out of love with making videos because it shot things so boringly. I liked my miniDV camcorder and this was supposed to be an upgrade. Turns out i like video because it distorts reality and capturing it with more realism ruins everything enjoyable about video for me. Not to mention i wasn't a cgi nerd and hd made it impossible to hide the fishing line i was using on my models.
hey, what happened to storm watchers will the older episodes come back after all I do miss them
I don't intend to make those public again. The only thing that would ever change that is if I managed to make a sequel show, which is not anywhere remotely close in the foreseeable future. Editing my comment to add the following: I'd also love to re-edit them as well, especially if I wanted to add older footage to whatever a future sequel would require, but the HDD, in which all of my raw footage from Storm Watchers resided, has since died.
well either way thanks for responding RIP Storm Watchers 2016 - 2017
the zoom on this is crazyyy
Can you take a photo with this?
yes
Great shots! I wish all reviews showcased more footage. Definitely helps when making that final decision(: cheers!
Thank you very much for this Explanation had this recorder for 5 years bought it from ebay. This has helped me so much, regards from the UK, all the very best to you and your family. Thanks again my friend.
Amazing video! been watching your channel since the summer of 2020 Keep up the good work my friend!
That was like watching a very brilliant short movie. Well done!
This particular Flip model is simply the best camcorder ever invented. The filmic aspect ratio and the way it handles color is unmatched. It’s such a fluke but I’m here for it. Just ordered mine on ebay. Thank you for posting.
Beautiful footage
What's the difference between this and U1120?
Mine isint touch screen? How do I work it
is there a specific size or name of the hotshoe ontop of the camera?
Sony refers to them as the "Active Interface Shoe".
Service centre location send in Dubai

Can it zoom while filming?
Do you notice any difference between hq and sp? The shots you take are very beautiful
Random question just wanna say first love your videos and give me inspiration to start my journey . I just got the same camcorder . It turns on . But I just ordered some Sony dvr disc it won’t record anything really till then. Does this camera have a Sd card slot ? Or just disc
thanks for the in-depth review. it's a slick looking camera, but the footage probably isn't so slick. that's too bad you can't use bigger batteries, but that's the design they had in mind.
What? The quality is too nice to use for Camcorder look. If you want higher quality, just get a gopro
Hi :) a few years ago i watched your video that you made in 2017 about the Vivitar 508NHD and decided to buy one off of eBay for £10, i still use it and love it. I dont know anything about cameras but happy to see you still uploading 🩷
Great video, big difference when using tripod. I also own this camera. What were your settings? Thanks for sharing
I found the best way to import video from MicroMV is with an older version of Sony Vegas. When you plug in the FireWire cable, just tell it you have an HDV camcorder, and then it works perfectly, and cleanly splits up each scene into its own file, with no corrupted video at the beginning and no audio/video synch problems. Older versions of Sony's Picture Motion Browser work as well, but with MicroMV I repeatedly encountered a weird bug where the video it imported disappeared from within the PMB software, even though the video files were all still there on the hard drive. p.s. The DCR-IP5 and IP7 are from 2001, not 2005.
I had been under the impression an older version of Vegas may be of help there. I use Vegas 13 to edit videos, unfortunately that's apparently too new for Windows Vista, which is installed on the only PC I have that has firewire (I'll probably be dual-booting that with Windows 7 anyway, so I'll get back to you on that part). Also thanks for catching that, I probably should have put the description through a couple more drafts before I uploaded, reading through it again haha
what settings are you running? I found my moms old s600 and I tried using it and the footage feels a lot choppier and not as smooth as yours
If I remember correctly, the only setting I changed was for the video quality to be at 640(Fine) rather than 640(Standard), which was the default.
How did you manage to transfer the footage? I heard that it's a lot more difficult than DV/Digital8.
Software for importing MicroMV is certainly few and far between, that's for sure. I just used essentially the same process that I've done for MiniDV and Digital8 though. Windows Vista's import video wizard supports MPEG2 capture, so all you have to do is plug the camcorder into the firewire port on any Windows Vista PC, and open the import video wizard (from within the program files, it will not autoplay with these camcorders), or you can open it through Windows Movie Maker by clicking "Import from a digital camcorder".
I'll probably be tweaking the description still from time to time for a bit btw, I wrote the whole thing about 10 minutes before the video had to be uploaded haha
This channel was like the very thing I never knew I needed, yet it exists! I love old camcorder/camera demos so much, and it inspires me to start collecting more of them to use as materials for my own creative projects.
It's so shaky, I cant use it😢
Does this camera have a flash and nightvision mode
It has nightshot, no flash.
How can I transfer the videos and have them look good? And by the way, what quality did you record in? low quality LP normal quality SP and Fine quality HQ? I transferred the videos but they look too bad. I know it's an old camera but it shouldn't look that bad
can you do a video on how you charge the battery? i can’t get my battery on the charging thing properly
