This is very boring. It bugs me when you now see these old guys riding these classic 2-strokes that they had in their teens and they now ride them like Miss Daisy. These bikes are made to be ridden hard - I am not saying thrash the living daylights out of it all the time but at least give it a bit of a thrash every now and then. If you are going to ride like that then get a BSA M20 !!!

The GT185 was my Ist bike and loved it's speed and handling. I had the blue 1975 model for about 18 months passing my test and progressed to a new Suzuki GT500 twin in blue and that was even better...but I did miss the electric start from the GT185.

If anyone is in contact with Roger, tell him to contact Max McAllister from Traxxion Dynamics in the USA. I haven't spoken to him in ages, and don't know how to contact him.

This machine has the "fat" sound on idle that suggests a well adjusted idle circuit. Gratz.

The MK XIV (PS915) isn't in this video unfortunately, but that was my Grandfather's actual Spitfire he flew in 1945, having already flown PR and in a fighter role since the war started. That won't mean anything to anyone here ofc, but I am still happy to see the other one (although PS915 was mentioned very briefly) and around 27 years ago I had the privilege of being allowed to sit in it. Wonderful. Last year 2023 I had the opportunity to fly the dual seat Mk IX at Duxford ... a stunning and moving experience ... bucket list complete.

The colors of the buildings, the barracks and control tower look wrong to me. Every "color" photo or movie that I have ever seen, they are more OD (Olive Drab), not a bright, gloss grey.

Thanks for posting this, Derek. My father grew up with John Ascani, the General's eldest son. I have fond memories of going to visit the Ascani family when they were stationed at WPAFB in Fairborn Ohio. My father was sent a plaque from the Ascani family when the General passed, listing all his accomplishments for the USAF. He was an amazing guy, a true American hero. Sadly, John Ascani, the General's eldest son has also passed recently. John was a Vietnam veteran and a profoundly good man. My sincere condolences to the Ascani family.

I had a 1976 suzuki gt 185 in the same colour reg LAC 927P but the exuast used to goul up with two stroke oil this bike was brand new from Pritchard motor cycles

nice to see another GT185 back on the road , this is the A variant I see but the side panels are painted the same as the tank , I take it thats original along with the chrome headlight ? sorry to ask - doing some research you see . ( black headlight bowl and side panels are supposed to indicate a "A" , chrome was "M" but there appears to be a lot of crossover ) you were lucky to get the crank rebuilt as getting hold of crankshaft web is a hard task(!), thanks

Absolutely beautiful - mine was exactly the same colour- brought mine brand new from our local Suzuki dealer in 1978 as I recall- quite a fast bike from memory and I put quite a few miles on it in the 2 years that I owned it - never missed a beat and was still going strong when I sold it - thanks for the memories and the video of your beautiful machine - cheers from Tasmania 👍

My friend Kev had a 1975 gt 185 for about 4-5? year's and changed the 185 for a Z1300.

It might have been 0-60 in just under a week, but it was beautiful. I got a red Suzuki GT185 in 1977 on my 17th birthday, had it for two years before moving on to Honda CB250’s. I don’t know whether it was the GT185, or my inexperience, or my age, but the ability to go 86 mph meant I got banned for 6 months twice in just over 2 years for totting-up of points! I have a BMW R1250RT LE now, after riding bikes for over 44 years, and remarkably have a clean licence on a bike that can do 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 140. I see the GT185 was struggling to get its 12 brake horses up a few hills near Queensferry. There was a solution to that problem that I found, move to Norfolk, as riding around Norfolk and Cambridgeshire meant that hills were few and far between! Thanks for the video. It brought back a lot of fond memories.
