Buy better. Buy less. Wear British wool.
Unravelling Brits' Discarded Fashion Habits: Insights & Solutions
In 2023, Brits discarded 116 clothing pieces, a 61% increase from last year. Our research delves into this issue and proposes solutions.
Over the past five years, discussions on fashion consciousness surged. However, sustainable wardrobe choices among Brits require more promotion.
Second-hand Shopping Preferences & Generation Divide
Despite increasing clothing disposal, wardrobes expand, indicating overconsumption. Nevertheless, 42% now buy second-hand, with sustainability ranking highest (38%).
However, over a third of individuals aged 55+ are buying less second-hand, perhaps due to fewer disposals.
When it comes to second-hand shopping, Brits agree that jumpers, sweatshirts and trousers are most likely to stand the test of time.
Surprisingly, Generation Z, perceived as eco-conscious, discards clothing excessively, raising questions about quality and second-hand purchases.
Reasons for Clothing Disposal
Faulty items, stains, and ill-fitting garments drive clothing disposal, highlighting quality and fit issues.
Towards a Sustainable Fashion Future
Promisingly, consumer behavior shifts towards sustainability. Yet, advocacy and education are crucial to combat disposable fashion and promote sustainable consumption and manufacturing practices.

British Wool - Wool Grading and Selling at Auction
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
At British Wool, we meticulously grade every fleece by hand, our experienced graders assess each fleece on various criteria: including stable length, fineness, and colour. The graded wool is then made available to buyers at our regular auctions. These auctions provide a transparent and competitive platform for buyers, helping to secure the best value for our sheep farmers.

มุมมอง 558ปีที่แล้ว
Once the wool is graded and sorted, each wool type is packed into bales, roughly weighing 300-350kg. Once the there is 8 tonnes of wool of the same wool grade these bales will be ready to go to auction. A commercial lot of wool is around 8 tonnes, which works out roughly to 24 bales. Within this lot there will be approx. 3200 fleeces from multiple farmers from the same region.

#ChampionWool - Gareth Wyn Jones - Why do sheep need shearing?
nobody in these videos talks about how the shear should contact the sheep. flat? a slight tilt? a high tilt? it's hard to see how the comb contacts the sheep.
All these videos do well with showing the "blows" but don't show what the actual method is to holding the handpiece, position of the comb relative to the sheep, etc. and making the initial "cut".
So start with the with alot with the stomach, maybe due to to it being the eaisest and largest to remove, then getting into other vuriable area like the scaffs, neck, head then the back. Though a difficulty here thats alot of the steps that are gonna take time to remember.
😊
brilliant dog i am in the room with them right now
Your videos are highly informative, many thanks.
I don't understand when he's talking about adjusting the lead of the shears. He says 5 to 7 mils? What is that in inches?
1 inch = 2,54 centimeters so 5 millimeters is about 0,2 inches
That's the most patient sheep in the history of creation... If that was a Scottish Blackface.. there'd be much swearing and less demonstrating
Happy 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃 new year 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧🧧
Fantastic video Alan has a great knowledge of shearing I have travelled to New Zealand & had a wonderful time in the shearing world competing in many shows around the UK also I was honoured to be a part of the judging team at many competitions & later became a shearing instructor which was very much a rewarding thing to do seeing young boys& girls who had little experience with shearing becoming comfortable in removing the sheeps fleece it was a wonderful experience then it all came to a sudden stop when I had a stroke which was defistating ending what I had loved so much
Could somebody over 50 do this job Jeremy? Or is it honestly a young person's game?
Put down a lot of korean and world's stock. And then d'ont raise it up~~!! It's right~!! 🐢......,,
First time used electric, blades upside down . First blow on my founding ewe took skin off. Used scissors and handshear 20 yeărs.
