I am a 3rd year student, currently majoring in Software Engineering, and most of my reasons for pursuing an MBA degree in the future is due to internal reasons. I thought that pursuing bachelor in SE would be a great experience, and even if coding was hard and dry, I would adapt myself to it according , as I did before university, but this time, I was wrong. I hope I get a chance to pursue a credible MBA degree, along with my full-time job in the future, and then decide what I should do after I get that MBA.
thanks alots for the infos you really helped me.
Great video

Too Good !! Bro, could you share tips on How to convince employers to hire me when i had a 4 yrs career gap just after my internship period due to covid & family reasons ? Also i haven't done any volunteer job or certification courses during this period but i have watched many useful lectures on TH-cam + all the essential skills required to do my role as hvac design engineer in Aec construction industry..so how to tailor my resume? Possible ways to handle upcoming challenges or opportunities to succeed without coming up across as unprofessional in any way ?? Any book recommendations on this topic to get selected would be helpful too...
Even with an MBA the companies want you to have many many years of experience for any position that pays 6 figures or above. Just the degree itself rarely works unless you are in your early 20s and starting out.
Thanks Ivan for creating this video. I am wondering If I can get your thoughts on this: - I have been working for over 10 years and have been feeling stuck in my career. - During coffee chats, I was suggested to consider MBA or MS Computer Science (I don't have an undergrad in CS but saw there are some bridging programs out there for those who don't). Wondering what do you think about MBA vs MS Computer Science? - I think MS is usually for those who usually have around 2 years of work experience but may not be appropriate for those with more work experience. - I think with MS CS one tends to become a software developer writing code. Pays well but just writing code. - With MBA people usually tend to go into 3 buckets (consulting, IB/financial services & tech). My perception is that the work life balance of consulting/financial services isn't great and also getting there in mid 30s is tough but tech (product management seems to be the most popular role in tech post MBA, though the current tech economy isn't great with layoffs) seems more open with better work life balance. Also, for MBA it seems it's more geared towards people with 4-6 years of experience & in their 20s. Not sure what's for me. Still researching.
Jaime - why do you feel stuck? What is your ideal scenario in the next several years that will make you happy?
@@ivanlesso I feel afraid/insecure I don't have marketable skills, network & my experience is my niche down to my employer's process, tools, etc. Ideally would like to be marketable & be in a position where I can get high paying jobs to provide for my family. Job security is when I can find another job and I feel I am not there yet which makes me feel anxious. I feel I am not sure what I am doing with my career and want to have opportunities/options in life. Some people suggested an MBA/MS CS can provide that.

I'm a devops engineer. Tryna get my MBA in order to grow
I am unable to access the e-book. Is there another way you can send it?
I completed my Bachelors in Computer Science and have been working as a Software Engineer for more than a year now. I had a hard time choosing between MS in CS and MBA. Thank you for the video, it gave me a direction.
Which one you are going to choose?
I like doing technical stuff, so I am leaning towards MS, and maybe later in the career when I have good experience in the field I can get an MBA and switch my career a little bit to more product-focused management type role.
So what you are saying is after I get my MBA next summer my salary at the moment $60k with 6 years of accounting history will magically jump to $140k? I wish! It’s too good to be true. I think it will boost my salary minimum $20k. Also for my MBA I’m not going to a popular university.
I went to a state school in a red state, for my MBA, and I earn $220,000. Dont be discouraged, MBAs are worth it. Many cheapskate deadbeat employers will try to low ball you, avoid them like the plague. Go for large businesses, preferably publically traded, fortine 500 businesses. Dont accept anything less than $130K and go up from there
He’s basing this on top 3 MBAs which are extremely difficult to get into, these graduations are highly recruited. Your average MBA is not comparable in outcomes.

It's more internal for me. I've been coding for almost 7 years and, even though I'm decent at it, it just doesn't feel like a calling. I want to expand my options beyond the IT department and I think an MBA will give me those options. I'm only going to consider it if I get into a top program though, since typical mba costs exceed $100k+
Hello and Asllamulliakum Please How I get A job In your country Becouse in Pakistan there is no Vlaue Of MBA Finance. I Have completed MBA In Finanace.please Help me
Can I do a part time job while studying MBA?
You can, I had a full time job while getting ny MBA, and then I quit and was running ny own consulting compny while getting my degree and still had time to party and socialize, go to restaurants and bars, etc. It's definitely doable!! I launched my consulting business bc financial and wasnt enough. You can do it too.
How much does it cost to read an MBA?
I have one more question.. How did you get the confidence of quitting the job. You know that's always not going to be easy...
I was always having this doubt that if I go for an MBA after engineering what advantages could that give me than a person pursuing an MBA from a non engineering background ? Would love to hear from you since you are also a person having an experience in the IT field. Thanks
Thank you for the advice Matt Damon
Thanks for sharing your POV
Thanks for watching my videos!
I think these are very high estimates with big companies and there are few. Real life more like under 100K with no signup bonus. There are too many MBAs out there.
I'm currently in the military and I will get out in 2024. I'm currently work in media and I would like to continue in this industry. I am teaching myself the basics of coding on freecodecamp and I'd like to land a job as a web developer and even make my own games and products to generate income for myself away from my main job. I will have my GI bill to use for school and I was considering an MBA because I've read online htat it has application to a wide variety of careers AND I believe that I will learn things that will help me in my personal business endeavors.
Are you thinking about getting an MBA? If so, what questions do yo have?
Sir I have completed MBA so can I go software jobs
I don't know! The majority of mbas don't come from standford, warthon, or any of the ivy league BS. Do they make those kind of salaries? I don't think so...
It’s not the schools you go to, it’s the jobs that you get. And the jobs I talk about are NOT only available to Stanford, Booth, and Wharton MBA grads.
I have many ideas but unable to implement one idea also
Is an MBA worth it? From my experience, absolutely not. I attended an online program at Texas Wesleyan University and I sincerely wish I never wasted my time. The online program was simply a money maker for the university. If it wasn’t for a waived GMAT (red flag), I would never have been accepted.
Coding and software engineering is crushing my soul. Although, I am decent at it but I don't like it at all.
Do you believe there is value in an MBA from a state school that is AACSB accredited ?
Hey Matt Damon 🙌
Matt Damon? 🤪
haha yeah I would say so

Sir Can i do MBA in IT, or MBA in CS after BBA in BUSINESS ANALYTICS?
The video is on point and covers the question I've been after for a while now. Some background - Im a Software Engineer with about 17 years of experience. My daily work involves me being technically involved in designing, building and deploying core products and services around them and leading a team of techs. I have been in a dilemma of what the next 15-20 years would look like and I think this is where a third perspective would probably be to opt for an MBA to help supplement a great Tech career into more senior roles. Just to be more accurate - I love technology and I write code as a hobby too. I'm good at it. I love my job as well however to climb up the ladder into more senior leadership roles and have a broader understanding of world economies, business and trade and how technology can be an enabler (this is where my experience would help), I guess this is where an MBA could be a choice.
If you like what you do and you’re looking to expand knowledge into business areas, I would also look at business extension programs at Harvard/Stanford/etc.
It is really a good video man!
Thank you!
@@ivanlesso If I have questions for MBA , I will drop my questions here!
thanks matt damon
thanks!!

For me it's both internal and external. I accidently chose IT as a major in my engineering. Fast forward 6 years, I had this somehow in my mind since last year that MBA is the next big thing I should go for. Need no mention that it opens up door to a much broader opportunities. External because, being a manual tester, I didn't get appraised well this year, although I am very good at it. So this sparked the fuel to either opt for Selenium Automation, or go for MBA. Can you please let me know which among these two, that is Selenium or MBA, will be more profitable to me in the long run?
You can do both. You can pursue your MBA while learning selenium at the side. Also I would try to get into an automation tester position within your company so you can get some experience
