      I believe they're trying to manage it sustainably - that's certainly what their PR says. But I know how horrible things are in Canada and Scotland, so, like you, I'm suspicious.

    more cities need whimsical little wonders like this, but they won't because physical moving parts like this cost too much and people are too quick to break them for a cheap laugh..

    • @MrBulky992
      @MrBulky992 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that's the fault of the music itself, just the mode and quality of the performance. I was very taken with it and immediately downloaded the music score so I could play it at home and find the tune very hummable. When Pope Benedict visited, there was not only a male voice choir leading the singing but also an entire congregation singing along with what is in reality a patriotic song - the Galician equivalent of Parry's "Jerusalem", perhaps (and roughly contemporaneous)? I love the rich, reedy sound of the organ: very different from the ones in the UK.

      I think it's been going for 700 years or more with no fatalities. The botafumeiro (thurible,) came off its rope and smashed through a transept window when Catherine of Aragon visited, on her way to England to marry Prince Arthur, in the early 1500s but no one was hurt: not a good omen for the marriage! She was soon a widow and went on to marry his brother Henry VIII.

    Typical southern Europe church music… 🥴

    • @MrBulky992
      @MrBulky992 ปีที่แล้ว

      This piece, the "Himno al Apostol Santiago", is the one traditionally sung (by a nun) during the Botafumeiro shown here which takes place at the end of the daily Pilgrims' Mass. The music was composed in 1920 by Manuel Soler Palmer, the director of music at the Cathedral at the time. I think it sounds better when there are more voices. It was sung for Pope Benedict XVI when he visited about a decade ago (video available on TH-cam). I find it quite catchy.

    Of all countries' changing of the guard for their honored dead, this is the one which sets the world's standard for the most embarrassing. The only consolation that attends this absolute farce is that the unknown is unable to witness the low regard his country holds him in as evidenced by their having permitted these two beached wales to waddle around in a military uniform as an example of military ceremony that is, well, at least everywhere in the world, a thing to behold. Not in Canada. Two fat chicks who barely were able to reach across their over-larded bellies to actually grab their rifles, then proceeded to stand post after taking over from a couple of clowns in hoodies and hipster fatigue trousers of a kind that one would regularly expect to see being worn by a hungover frat dude putting on his version of his Sunday best so he can sneak into class and nap. Everywhere else on the planet, the military puts its best foot forward for these highly visible, ceremonial displays as a sign of great respect for the sacrifices of their honored dead. That is, apparently, not the Canadian way. They want to put on the most grotesque display, presumably to express their contempt for the unknown soldier being such a disgrace to the country for having been killed and being difficult to identify thereafter. Pathetic and shameful.

      Baseball caps and hoodies and the the 2 fattest soldiers as their relief….. a tomb of the unknown soldier should be guarded by the sharpest looking super soldiers who exceed over their peers in all forms of soldiering and this looks like a post where the put soldiers who got in trouble or are being kicked out for weight standards
