I dont know if a unique objective for each match makes a game popular. Case in point, my favorite moba / hero shooter / Gearbox toilet Gigantic. That game has the most unique and fun objective of any hero shooter. Nobody played it in 2016, and nobody plays it now because Gearbox ruined the game.
That's really interesting, I've never heard of this game. Will look into it.
Wouldnt say its doomed, I didnt like it at first but once you start losing, only to sell items to make room for different ones and then WIN, most people might not experience that type of joy but it should be highlighted.
I hope I'm wrong but yea, definitely super rewarding for the player if you figure the mechanics out.
I was a tf2 one trick w 7k hours. Deadlock made me put it down, I love that game but Deadlock has me by the nuts with how important everything feels compared to the casual and individual nature of tf2. I really hope that it can succeed.
@@carsonlatham7302 I too hope it succeeds.
I was excited until I heard you say MOBA. Valve desperately needs to move away from MOBA's if they want to make an e-sport game that will be a success on par with TF2.
Yea I feel like dota is a good enough moba and they can make something else
It doesn’t feel like a moba. Try it. Most of the people playing it have never touched a moba before
mobas are the only truly succesful esport games, we saw what happened to ow, league is by far the biggest esport for a reason. just regular hero shooters are to casual and simple to make good esport games.
@@DCCXXV Have you never heard of CSGO? Or any other FPS e-sport game? Even Overwatch was successful for a while. And no, Valve needs to get away from e-sports entirely. Trying will only be a waste of money. And has killed game dev studios and publishers. You can't force a game to be an e-sport.
@@carsonlatham7302 How? Can't download it. Beta is over and I didn't get an invite. But as I told the other dude, can't force a game to become an e-sport, it either does or it doesn't. And trying to force it has ended more than a few game dev studios.

@@GentleMannOfHats thank you man
that's an underhanded compliment, you're shallow and that's a reflection on you, champ :)
I'm mostly a comp fps player, the only moba I play on the reg is pokemon unite. Unite works for me because it feels like it distilled the moba genre down to something that does have good dynamics, despite having simplified mechanics. deadlocks decision points feel like a multiple choice test, where you have to pick one of a few correct answers out of hundreds. what do I need to buy? what should I build around? what should I pick up to counter x on the enemy team? when do I need to switch lanes? when do I abandon lane for an objective? those are all reasonable decision points, but the breadth of answers makes it really hard to know when you are making the correct decision, or when a choice is consequential. Unites decision points and how they reflect in how the game goes are pretty simple to understand. I skipped objective to farm my ult, I took too long and my team got wiped. I chose the ranged kit for a pokemon, the enemy had a speedster who countered me. the feedback on when you make a poor decision, and how it impacted the match is a lot easier to track. I totally understand why moba players coming from league or dota might crave a depth of decision trees, but to get the broader audience it needs to be built around teachability.
That's a super interesting point and an interesting way you put the decision complexity. I completely agree. Also never played Unite, low key forgot it existed, didn't know that about it, that's cool.
highly underrated video
You know quality when you see it.
I got thousands of hours in overwatch and Deadlock is the first Moba I've tried. Personally I'm loving it
It's fun for sure.
Man i do wish Team Fortress 2 competitive was more than just a hobby at this point. Back when i63 had 12k viewers Valve should have added money into the future LAN events. Even just 10k would have made a very big difference imo, since i63 had a pool of around 9500$. I wont say Valves lack of support for TF2 competitive killed it but it sure did not incentivize new players to try it out. TF2 Competitive mode wasn't even really an attempt, i mean it was but it was such a bad attempt it made people even less motivated to try out competitive. Like who on gods green earth thought that turbine was a good competitive map? Who thought it was a good idea to force change your settings to play competitive? Not only disrupting your ability to play but it would just outright crash your game sometimes. But i digress, maybe one day we will see a return to TF2 competitive as it's really one of the best competitive shooters that exists (imo). Maybe when TF3 releases? xD. Great video btw, but i think that out of every MOBA i've ever played (1 lol) Deadlock was the easiest to grasp the concepts of. Not that i'm some MOBA fanatic, in fact i really hate MOBAs (could probably tell) since i find alot of the gameplay boring. But Deadlock... idk it just hits different. It's not really a pure MOBA, but i wouldn't say it's also mostly a MOBA. Id say its a hero third person shooter and a MOBA at the same time. Like a 50/50 split on that. You can't play it like a MOBA but you can't play it like FPS you really have to be good at both to be good at the game. But hey i've never seen even a screenshot of Dota 2 gameplay so take it with a grain of salt please xD.
Thanks for the feedback. I totally agree TF2 is a god tier competitive game and Valve was seemingly caught flatfooted and misplayed their hand.
I can see how the 3rd person perspective is better for the spectator, but I have yet to see someone explain exactly how 3rd person is better than a 1st person for the player apart from being able to see your own skins which shouldn't take priority over gameplay.
My argument is 3rd person helps you see more of the map area relative to 1st person, so it's helpful in a game with tons of abilities flying around. I agree 1st person is more immersive though.
@@matthewgoldberg isn't that the same as moving 2 steps backwards and increasing your FOV in first person? I'm saying this as someone who played OW 1 more than any other game (yeah I know what a mistake that was) and I never felt like man I wished I had a 3rd person camera here.
@@KaledTV Sometimes, but it sort of depends where ur standing and also how the game is setup. One example is if you think of visibility around corners, you can see more of what's around you in 3rd person. That said if you stand in one place looking forward and the game for some reason decreases your viewing angle in 3rd person, than obviously in 1st person you'd still be able to see more. I'm saying if we assume the viewing angle is the same both ways, you most likely can see more in 3rd person. Some players may not care though and prefer 1st person anyway since it's more immersive and they see fine either way.
3rd person gameplay is an entirely different realm of gameplay than first , like not to be rude but this is so asinine a comment- how is a shooter, a genre based on perspective, not entirely different from a change in perspective. The movement system alone in Deadlock WOULD NOT work in a 1st person game lmao
@@matthewgoldberg Visibility around corner is a negative not a positive, because it encourages passive play camping around corners, you could say this is subjective but I think we can agree that corner peaking with 3rd person is usually seen as a negative. Third person could be useful maybe when using melee weapons like Reinhardt's hammer since it allows you to see the area that surrounds you, or when you are altering the environment like building in Fortnite where you can see where you character is compared to all the mess that is constantly changing around it. But the huge downside is everything now is farther away and harder to shoot, and you lose that tight feedback from gunplay and immersion.
If Dota is as successful as it is, making Deadlock look like child's play by comparison, there's nothing to worry about other than the team's recent balance decisions.
I guess we shall see.
The issue might be that it’s too casual for some and not casual enough for others.
you have such a breadth and depth of knowledge about video games & a structured and substantive way of communicating your thoughts. also your editing and branding is getting more refined. keep building your game analysis catalogue! i can't wait to learn more.
Thank you! Couldn't have done it without you.
ever since quitting league many years ago after they reworked my fav champion into utter nonsense. i was swapping from many fps games that would change every year or so. hearing about cs2 being a thing i came back to csgo and eventually into cs2 and for a while it was good. But when deadlock was announced it felt like the perfect mix of genres i never knew i needed. during a time of hardship for cs2 and the rampant cheaters with little to no communication, deadlock was a easy way out and i still stay playing after knowing how public the devs are with its community, after how committed they are to building the game including the addition of anti cheat measures. it is a game that rewards great skill expression.
I'm really glad you're enjoying Deadlock, and it's interesting you came by way of League. I'm gonna keep playing Deadlock as well, I really enjoy the game.
great analysis, and fantastic pacing. i really appreciate thought-out, well scripted videos that respect the viewers time, and present themselves casually like this one. most new youtubers either fall into the camp of a 3 hour long ramble session, or substanceless flashy editing. keep this format up and you'll get your audience in no time.
Thank you man, I really appreciate the feedback. My plan is to keep a steady release schedule and hopefully grow.
Deadlock is trash bro, confusing and too complex. Not even satisfying when killing heroes

@@jayd2535 sorry bro I got life

A big part of why the pacing felt so weird to me was the distribution of bosses/minibosses. You'd think each island leads up to a lighhouse, so at the end you'd beat a boss or miniboss to finish the Island with a bang, right? But no, most of the islands just sort of end anticlimactically. No boss, no miniboss, you just pull the plug and it's over. Heck, even one of the BIG lighthouses doesn't have a boss and just ends with an anticlimax. At the start of the game, the bosses actually show up at a good pace. But as the game goes along, it's like they forgot the concept of minibosses altogether. Early on you fight one of the Extension Corpse guys alone... so you'd think you'll battle each of the other ones solo as well, right? But no, you only fight that one guy alone. Then you don't fight any of them again until you confront them all as a team. Seems like a missed opportunity. So yeah, this weird boss pacing leaves a lot of the quests to end unsatisfyingly. At the end of an area, I wanna bash a strong foe. It doesn't even have to be a complex boss with multiple phases or anything, just something to put your bros attacks to good use. The game does so many things so well... But it also has so many aspects that seem half baked and not thought out well. Like they had an idea for something couldn't execute it properly.
Agreed. You’d think they’d spread the bosses more evenly because it’s an easy way to show off the fun combat but it turned out uneven. And yea when the game shined it really shined, just too much repetition breaking it up
"It should all be the good part" is such a good way to put it
Not my idea! I'm popularizing it.
looks like an editing upgrade!

also i def agree about round length. rly enjoy that there are more spaces to do things than simply blues and reds but wish that there weren’t so many lucky spaces or at least it just auto gives something instead of having to choose every time to speed things up (also item spots). need more rounds to feel the ebbs and flows of mario party but rn more rounds is too long to play. if they did speed up the rounds would love the option of an extended pro mode . 2 bonus stars plz n more rounds the thing i miss the most is having hidden paths or areas that you really want to reach like the donkey kong road in mario party with the hotels on the wii. there feel like no special regions that you have to work specifically to reach and get a little lucky. overall though this is the best mario party we’ve had since 2007 and huge step in the right direction. i felt like that kinda cared for the first time in a while hope they continue that love and care with dlc’s. would love some updates that add secrets like how to unlock special characters (even though barely an easter egg to get pauline and ninji)

excellent video. now how do you feel about a Zelda game with ganondorf as the protagonist
Thanks! I think it could be amazing and all depends on execution. They made Bowser playable in Bowser's Inside Story and worked. I'd be surprised if Nintendo went there because Ganondorf is usually presented as evil incarnate whereas Bowser's more adaptable, but yea I think they could pull it off. My first thought is it could be some kind of strategy, territory control type game where you order an army around to try to corrupt Hyrule.

maybe it’s more of a pain in the butt but you should record the audio while you play and then edit the audio so there aren’t so many pauses and play the edited audio over your gameplay. obviously if there’s funny audio moments that match up with gameplay try to have those parts match
Should I edit the gameplay as well?
@@matthewgoldbergthe easiest thing to do is edit the audio and edit parts out where you are talking about gameplay and then show stock footage of games that have nothing to do with the audio. if u want to include audio that talks about your gameplay that game, then edit it to the in the footage to match up with the parts you were talking about but the video might look like it is jumping if you are cutting out video parts that don’t have audio and could be a pain
@@matthewgoldbergthe most important thing is that you are getting comfortable talking by playing the game and talking. if you were to just record the audio without playing the game it might come off as less organic cuz ur like sitting there forcing yourself to come up with something to talk about. however you want to edit is up to you and what makes the most sense for time and energy but i do think it would do a lot for the video if it didn’t have all those moments of silence where you are getting into the game but on the other hand i do like it when you chuckle and react to gameplay. trying to combine talking about the game and talking about a day in the life kind of the stuff like this can be super cool but just more effort editing wise if you want to cut out the lully moments
