Talk Title: “Rising of the Christ Consciousness – Part 1 – Preparing The Way, In Darkness”
Talk Title: “Rising of the Christ Consciousness - Part 1 - Preparing The Way, In Darkness”
Speaker: Rev. Bridget McCann
As we approach Christmas, we look at Christ Consciousness. Attaining Christ Consciousness was not an accomplishment exclusive to Jesus of Nazareth; he was an example, not the exception. At this time of year, when the Northern Hemisphere is at its darkest, we explore the work we need to do to prepare the way for our Christ Consciousness to rise, work that is often best done in the “dark”.

I disagree with that blanket statement of being social creatures. Look around. Does the carnage exacted by humans on other humans throughout the whole of human history indicate any type of social need? I think this axiom needs to be separated from the idea that babies are born so immature that they need parents in order to survive. But just some social requirement - that's the claim of extraverts who basically "NEED" other people. Those of us who are introverted - we enjoy people, but we don't NEED them. My life didn't change substantially at all during the lockdowns, but extraverts around me lost their minds. Any time you get humans into a community, what ACTUALLY happens it that norms are established and the power to steer the group now becomes a tussle, often a sociopath who enjoys messing with people will get the reins. You're "in" the group if you abide by those norms and do as leadership says. If not, you're "out." And people WILL entrain to group standards no matter what those are or become. We see this easily in the waiting room experiment where everyone stands up for no reason and the new person does, as well, without needing a rationale. That's why Christians could sleep well at night while their slaves were in hovels on the edge of the property. That's why they could ride into pagan towns, force people to "convent" or murder them (and sometimes both - but hey. They went to heaven since you converted them, right?) Exceptions are not tolerated. You see this in your very own churches today.

Hi Jenna, Rev. Larry here. I'm glad that our Sunday message caught your eye. When I say that humans are social creatures I'm just going by what many medical and biological researchers have shown. Here are a couple of resources that I based my ideas on: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2527715/ and www.southuniversity.edu/news-and-blogs/2018/05/why-being-social-is-good-for-you I did not mean to imply that all people enjoy being social or need to be social (or that you need or want that). Compared to other creatures, most humans enjoy, value and are better for their social interactions. As for calling social interactions a "need," I was relying on Abraham Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs." Although physiological needs come first, and safety needs second, Maslow felt that "Belonging" and social interactions came third as something that most people "needed." Anyway, I hoped you enjoyed listening to the service, even if the main concept didn't resonate. Take care and thanks for sharing your ideas.
