Understanding the Akita breed:
The Akita is a large and powerful breed native to Japan
They are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and striking appearance
Akitas have a robust build, with males weighing between 100 to 130 pounds and females weighing between 70 to 100 pounds
Why weight management is important for Akitas:
Weight management plays a vital role in the overall health and well-being of Akitas
Just like humans, obesity can lead to numerous health problems in dogs
Some common issues associated with being overweight include joint problems, heart disease, diabetes, and decreased lifespan
Furthermore, being overweight can have a negative impact on an Akita's quality of life

How to determine if your Akita is at a healthy weight:
To determine if your Akita is at a healthy weight, you can perform a simple visual and physical evaluation
When looking at your dog from above, you should be able to see a distinct waistline
From the side, you should notice an upward slope from the chest to the stomach

My bear js got diagnosed with thyroid
Sure. Akitas are big as Malamute. I would like to see Malamutes and Akitas pulling sled together.
A perfect example of the hardworking endurance of the breed. Akitas are definitely built to pull sleds over snow and ice.
Akitas were bred for protection of Royalty and hunting Bears in the mountains regions of Japan. Akitas are very stubborn and major league prey driven. Like any beast and or dog, training must begin at an early age without exception(s).
Thanks for sharing this info!
Bacanas teus vídeos. Acompanho sempre! Crio akitas japoneses há 11 anos.
The most loyal protective beautiful looking dog their is .The fantastic Akita be it Japanese or American.
I adopted a female at 8 she was a breeders dog who they we’re retiring. This bloodline had been going for 30 years known for mild controlled behavior. Not a strong prey drive. In fact I’ve had her for 4 years she is now 12 She has never attacked another dog even when a couple of off leash dogs came running at her. She got off my leash chased the dog had it back up against a fence it stood still. She was staring at it not moving growling not a peep her body and stare pure stealth. That dog knew not to move. That’s a perfectly controlled dominant dog. I take no credit because she was a mommy and certainly not trained that way it was pure DNA. The male that was the daddy caught a car thief on the property and had the man against the car a paw on each shoulder face into his. The man cried for help. If I use an impatient voice when we are out walking she will stop dead and stare at me like really? The DNA the breederabd the bloodline are key. Just like this guy said not all Akitas will behave the same. I’ve met people who said their Akita killed every squirrel etc etc strong prey drive. Training and socializing are key but DNA is first.
I raised two akitas the female lived twelve years and the male lived thirteen years and four months. I thank the Lord for these dogs .I really appreciate your videos.
Hmm!....I've read that in Japan, Akita owners typically feed them lots of fish, rice and seaweed along with supplements for optimum health!
American Akita's are never fearful. I've owned three, which none were afraid of anything.
Some of the pics are shibas lol
So..your crap videos are not specifically for Akitas but generally for most dog breeds. I will not watch anymore of your crappy vids and I will give you a downvote for this one.
They are beautiful dogs i have one as well
Load noises can upset any dog and not just certain breeds. My family has had 30 years of experience with both gsd's and Akitas and never had bad experiences with loud noises, whether it be from storms, low flying jets or the wife's big mouth. Stupid video really. Can't believe I just wasted a few minutes of my life watching and commenting on this garbage.
❤❤❤❤❤
Unless your Akita is extremely dirty, you should never (!) bathe or shower him. You will damage his coat and skin.
Love the breed! Cannot wait to have two of my own someday!
You CANNOT understand the Akita without accepting the fact that they are a dog of fighting heritage.
Akitas must be trained and fostered positivly by thier owner. They will not protect somene nearly as well if they are not your pack.
❤❤❤❤❤👑❤❤
😍👑😍
Thank you for sharing these stories. I am fortunate to share my life with an Akita.
Akitas were bred for centuries to think independently, they work with family well, but do not expect them to lose this quality..
Train the owner + train your Akita = incredible partnership. Display loving, confident leadership daily.
Great beautiful the best yet
🤩👌😃👍😍❤️
hello sir good discussion
The Dogs of Our Ancestors On eBay Older then cities, evolved naturally and without dog shows.
Absolutely! Akitas are renowned for their courage and loyalty, making them natural protectors. It's fascinating how their history as guardians for royalty in Japan has shaped their protective instincts. 🐾💪
This is a hunting dog, working independently. Now, urbanites want to convert it into a big toy breed. The Dogs of Our Ancestors On eBay
Yes they have a great sense of smell my Make 3 years old and Female 5 years old smell any food on the ground or any Animals near by
Both of my AKITAS have killed RACOONS and POSOMES taking them for walks at night
they also can hear very well! look at those ears and watch them twitch when they hear something!😂
My Akita is only protective when in his territory, but when I take him out for a walk he loves making new friends. Absolute best dog I've ever had by the way, so worth the effort in training him.
💛💛💛💛
nice
They are very good pups great beasts I have one and I couldn’t ask for nothing better
I love them they are great
I must be the winner of rescue best Akita ever.... 2.5 years I've have, no training, one bark on our 11 acres mountains something up he's watching, one morning fence yard he barked and it a big buck moose 25' away just standing there, boy looked at and kinda stared at, get in the cabin buddy. He is completely social humans. Zero training but trust learning, took a good year for him to trust me, now loyal best friends.
An interesting book on how the breed, especially the Akita known today as the "American Akita" was rescued from extension is "Dog Man: An Uncommon Life on a Faraway Mountain." It tells about how Morie Sawataishi saved them from going extinct when only an estimated 30 Akitas were in Japan.
Question. I heard that if socialized too much they become too trusting and friendly like huskies. Is this true or false? I love Akitas and want one as my next dog because they are super loyal and loving with their owner and because of their primitive hunting nature (which i admire in dogs) and my recent dog that i lost was named Ghost, a malamute/shepherd mix and the main comment i got from people was them joking around about stealing him from me which i take very seriously because my mothers dog was almost stolen twice and my friends dog was stolen and he hasn't found him ever again. Can Akitas have a balanced disposition where they can greet people but react to a threat?
I’ve owned akitas, the first one i didnt Socialize and he was very protective and no one could come into the house that he didnt trust, for whatever reason. I had big men that would not come in if “ will “ was in the house. He was a beast trust me he guarded our house with his life literally. I got another Akita from puppy stage got him at 7 weeks, i socialized him with people i wanted him to be good to, he’s very kind and lovable, that being said, he’s 7 months old now and I’ve noticed that he’s good around children and the ones I’ve socialized him with. But if another dog or someone he doesnt know comes around look out, he’s starting to get very protective, of our home and us. To me they are an amazing dog exstremly strong they re probably the only dog that naturally knows how to protect you from bad people. They can take down any man doesnt matter how big or strong he is, they have taken down bulls. They are no match for probably 95% of other dogs or animals, i could tell you a personal story but you would have to email me its unreal but true.
I like watching deferent dog breed herding. I really like watching standard poodles herding too.
