Mr Stewart's knowledge of our city was unparalled. He was a one of a kind man who wanted to share his collection, because of him Pocahontas Island story has been told and I truly hope that that through the museum his legacy will last for generations. RIp buddy, you will be missed.

Best Civil War museum I've been to, and I've been to a lot of them.

My parents were married there, when I was 9. Let me explain. My mother remarried and her husband adopted me. I have the photo standing in front of the church.

When I was a young girl my friend and I helped our mothers run a week long Vacation Bible School each summer. We took Koolaid and cookies to serve everyday. It was an interesting spot you got to by driving down a mid-bridge road. It was years later until I got curious about it and found out what a historically special place it was. I was told it was an island in the Appomattox River.

Oh my gosh Joseph Cotton was born, raised and is buried here?? Wow- I always loved his acting! And then it has 15 Louis Comfort Tiffany windows to boot? Wwwhat?? I just learned about this place thanks to The Paranormal Side on You Tube and I never knew about the sad civil war history and other things that came later. It really should be made an UNESCO World Heritage Site no less. It fits all the requirements for the Cultural requirements.

Love this place! Definitely worth checking out!

My Grandmother, 2 Great Aunts, 1 Great Uncle, 1 Aunt and 1 Uncle and numerous cousins lived in Dinwiddie County and Dewitt.

My Grandparents and my Parents are laid to rest here. My Aunt and her husband are here as well. I was told by my Uncle this is the oldest cemetery in Virginia. He was a Funeral Director at JT Morris & Son.
