New Student ~ Why the horse takes a shorter stride on the right
มุมมอง 3918 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This is a new student in my most recent Maryland clinic. Her horse was taking a short stride on the right, particularly going to the left. Understanding what is happening is the key to helping the horse change the imbalance, then we can apply classical techniques to teach the horse to be straight and even in the shoulders.

How to be more effective with your leg ~ Understand the biomechanics and what to do
มุมมอง 110วันที่ผ่านมา
How we use our leg matters! if we close our upper leg when we use the foot to give an aid, we block the energy that we are asking the horse to create. www.classicalequinesolutions.com for more detailed videos in the article section
Does your horse lean on your hand? A discussion of arm position and rein aids with a thoroughbred
มุมมอง 12014 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is a thoroughbred that came to us as a rehab. He had leverage bits used while running him over fences. He has been with us for 6 years now and is finally starting to have mobility in the jaw. This video discusses how to help a horse that sets the jaw change that tendency. For more info see www.classicalequinesolutions.com
How to improve your horses' top line ~ understanding the biomechanics for results!
มุมมอง 16514 วันที่ผ่านมา
Teaching the horse to control their own shoulders is the first place to start, once you have that, the horse will naturally come through the top line. From there we can put energy in to strengthen the top line.

How and why to use spurs
มุมมอง 7121 วันที่ผ่านมา
I often see riders with the spur too far up on the foot (on the spur rest of the boot), this prevents the rider the option to use the heel OR the spur. It is also important to understand why we use the spur, it is never to make the horse go! It is for yield or lifting the back.
A discussion about self carriage, contact and a round horse
มุมมอง 7028 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is a horse I see weekly with Pivo, last month we were able to work in person. We discussed teaching the horse to carry its own shoulders, how to round the horse and address the tendency to shift side to side instead of coming in front of the leg.
Improve your leg position. Understanding the Biomechanics
มุมมอง 144หลายเดือนก่อน
As riders, we often hear "bring your leg back!" Our brain instinctively says to bend the knee and bring the foot back. This video explains why that doesn't work and what you need to change to have a leg that is not only underneath you, but allows your seat to communicate with your horse so they can be round (comfortably carry you).
Why the rider leans the shoulders back. Understand what is happening and the solution!
มุมมอง 499หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a new rider that tends to collapse the shoulders back to find the seat bones. Unfortunately, the female body tends to collapse instead of connect the seat bones. Understanding what you do as an individual (based on conformation, life experiences and gender) is a wonderful tool to help your horse understand and carry you comfortably. www.classicalequinesolutions.com

Heels down! We have all heard it! This is how to achieve it without tension
มุมมอง 123หลายเดือนก่อน
Understanding how the human body responds to being on a horse is an important factor. Learning what part of our body needs to change to achieve a long leg, i.e. "heels down" makes us much more successful as a rider! #horseriding #horsetraining #horsetrainingtips
Teaching the Young Horse Shoulder In
มุมมอง 106หลายเดือนก่อน
This a young horse that has just been started. In this video the owner is learning how to direct the horse into shoulder in after I have worked the horse and given the idea. While not a true shoulder in at this point, we are teaching the components that teach the horse to connect the inside hind to the outside shoulder. A circle is a from of shoulder in without the lateral movement. This is why...

Interesting! Especially when he said to not hold the horse to tight as it takes his energy.
it makes sense!
HI ❤ beautiful Lady I'm excited for join with your horse 🐴 yard work with you please i need your help and contact please I'm excited
Hey Kim how do I get my horse not to nip at me whenever I’m trynna drink that month old kombucha from the cooler
Lol! Your funny Bella. If it’s in the fridge it’s just fine 😂
Thanks for showing a horse and student learning together!
It’s fun to watch!
Love the smile on your student's face at 2:11 when she saw it! I miss those moments with you and horses. 😊
Awww miss you too!
You are so good at explaining
Good to hear that! When we are clear in our understanding, it makes it easier to apply.
What kind of horse is he? Do you know❤
He is a Lusitano
@classicalequinesolutions heck yeah, simply gorgeous
He is so cute ❤
Lovely explainations! Totally off topic, but I loved watching the new hoof prints in the freshly dragged arena. There is something so satisfying about it 😍 😂
I agree! Love a freshly dragged arena!
Have u ever had your coach successfully videotape 20 minutes of your lesson and then send it to you? My coach is having problems doing this and I want to figure it out.
I use obs project to record the whole lesson. Then put on TH-cam unlisted and send to student
Hi there! Your channel came up for me as a TH-cam suggestion and I am so glad I clicked on it! I have only been riding about 2 1/2 years and these videos are helping me understand how to train better. I really like how you break everything down and explain things so clearly. Thanks for presenting these videos!
So glad to hear that! I post at least once a week, if you subscribe you should get notifications. You can also find more information on my web site in the articles section www.classicalequinesolutions.com

Do you know why this horse reacts the way she does? Anticipation of pain from a poor fitting girth or saddle, harsh use of spurs, stomach ulcers, ect? I see this method as being very good for rehabilitation, but I just wonder about an underlying cause.
I would say all of the above! She did not have a good start and learned to bunch and buck early on. I am coming into this horse after these problems have been this way for some time. She will see the chrio soon but I don't like to do do that until the muscles have started to change, otherwise the adjustment does not hold. Rehabilitating is right! This work solves all problems if you learn how to apply it.
@@classicalequinesolutions very nice! I also see how the cavesson is quite essential. Can't influence the lengthening with a bridle or a haulter.
@@graceboughner2635 That's exactly right, essential!
Well... I´m gonna agree with the horses on this one. It´s well know that plastic bag eats horses on a regular basis. Better be safe than sorry! ;)
truth!
YUP! The horse I was riding got spooked and dumped me on a windy day. Ended up with a bruised lung and ribcage.
Ouch!
Beautiful!😊

Yeah lol I have a problem with not closing my hands
This is a big help! You don’t have to think about it and you must use your leg!
First also thx this really helps
Glad to hear that!
The "you understand? Good, you can get on him" felt like deja vu 😂 You gotta earn your ride in the lunging!
Is this Dante? ❤
Yes it is. He’s with Laura in Virginia now
Proof horses injure themselves easily in a pasture mommy was able to get hold of him and grab that branch this was actually kind of funny as he wasn't injured
This is hilarious 😂
it really is! He was soo dramatic!
What saddle do you use? I know it's probably crazy expensive, I'm just curious cause it's so different from everything else on the market.
The saddle is a Lauriche. It is the only saddle that supports a seat that allows the back to lift that I have found. All the other saddles put the hip angle down to the ground instead of up toward the ears. Around $2000 used.
@@classicalequinesolutions most dressage saddles are 2-4k anyway. I'm not looking now, but I've always wondered which saddle it was I was so lucky to learn in ❤️
Very nice horse, I was taught in Spain to move my hands with the horse's mouth. That way the horse does not bump his mouth into your very still hands every time he moves his head. They have to move their heads as they walk. It is our job to flow with them. It does not take exaggerated movement, but a flowing following hands. PS you have a very good seat!
Thank you
Stunning horse!
thank you!
100% accurate. The leg is "the" communication device. The reign is a "steady / balance" communication device. There are so many current riders that are taken as role models for aspiring students. The best I have ever witnessed, even though he has long retired, is Rodney Jenkins (the "Red Man" ... hair color in his youth). If you watch the dated TH-cam videos of Rod, you can judge how much leg he is applying by the "pinch-up" of the saddle flap (section under stirrup leathers). As he applies pressure, the flap will bunch up, and conversely as he releases pressure. Unfortunately you can't see the pressure differential (one side to another) when he is communicating direction or stride adjustment. Notice that, in most cases the reigns are slightly slack unless he is balancing the horses head over fences with slight reign pressure. As he builds trust with the horse, the horse becomes dependent on this for reassurance over fences. What was amazing while watching Rod in person, is the constant ear positioning of the horse. You could literally watch the horse ask Rod for direction by when they would reverse their ears. Rod would say he could tell what the horse was thinking by the ear position, and when the horse "got it" because their ears would face forward. Of course there are other accomplished riders, but from a "contact and communication" perspective, I've never seen anyone better than Rod.
Why is it that something so basic as rider weight is hardly ever discussed? I have never heard it in any other barn nor any other dressage video online. Seat is mostly for rhythm and balance (meaning staying in the saddle). The weight as a fulcrum is something I only have ever heard from you and Tina. I watch so many kids trying to turn ponies and trainers yelling at them about leg and rein aids and all I can think is that maybe the pony is doing the best it can with a kid hanging both hips on one side of the saddle... Thanks for this reminder!
It is unfortunate it is not addressed, hopefully more people see this, study it and add it to their teaching. Glad you are out there helping riders!
I love the " I'm sorry but you're not gonna change if you don't try new things". I feel like I will use this phrase as a pastor XD
LOL! It is true for many things!
Loved watching you change leads! Looks like that arena is not real long, so quite the feat! He also reminds his student to relax! Took me a minute to tune in to his instructions. You looked great, Kim! And it looked like you were having fun!!❤
Yes, lots of fun! It's a long way to go but so worth it!
Weight is still on the forehand, no?
Yes, she is just starting to come through the top line so we are not asking for more push from the hind end yet.
A great video that shows both the willingness of the horse to change a longstanding pattern of movement and the patience of the trainer to allow it to happen without force or artificial aids such as side reins, draw reins, etc.
Will have to try that!
What a cute horsy🐴
Very good explanation! Thanks!
