How to wire the 5C mk4 Bt Openreach socket and how it works
Great video. I had open reach fit one of these the other day, but annoyingly they disconnected the internal extensions that were part of a re-wire about ten years ago and won't come back to sort it out. All wires come in from the back. Question: I have 3 extensions around the house that are dead. Is it just the two wires to connect or three lots of two ? Thanks.
Sounds like an obstruction give it a little tap to see if this frees any debris 😁
Hello my Internet kept dropping and my provider asked me to take the cable out and then insert again into the box (grey). I did this but now it won't reinsert into the main box. It feels like it's blocked from inside which is the same one you're demonstrating here. Any ideas? Thank you
That is correct but there are still existing telecoms being used in properties plus some people want to connect the existing to the new so the knowledge of the wiring and how it works will be helpful.

Those lines are being done away with, have to change by plugging the wire into the internet router in the next couple of years, ours is already plugged into router with landline discontinued.
The two wires coming from the local telephone exchange the feed coming into your property have a hi and low frequency the high is broadband and the low is phone. Now days you only really need two wires coming from the socket going around the property to secondary extension sockets but in the earlier days the old phones needed an extra wire called the bell wire to make them ring. You would only need use three terminating positions in the socket 2&5 voice & 3 bell wire 😁
ok, why is it 2 wires coming from the telecom, 3 wires going from the box to the rest of the house, and a 4 pin socket? that needs more explanation.
All very well but the average diy guy doesn’t have or is going to spend the money for a crimping tool and crimp
What a pointless video 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i
what is the difference between this bt master socket and 2 Port Cat5e RJ45 Network Faceplate Face Plate LAN Patch Double Socket Module
Hi Francis, will you be kind to let me know: if I extend from A & B line in to another room for internet only, can I terminate the wires into another 5CMK4? Many thanks
Yes you can reuse just try and make sure no wires have been left in the holes. 😁
Does anybody know what i can do i have the same socket but my wires are orange and white then white with bit of orange then blue with a bit of white and white with blue and green with a bit of white and white wih a bit of grern im not sure where the wires go
Sounds similar to mine. Luckily for me, the previous setup was still available for me to view. The blue wire (with one or more bands of white) goes to B (don't know if it's a coincidence that B is for Blue, but it's certainly convenient to remember it that way); and the white (with one or more blue stripes on it) goes to the other terminal.
For the main A and B connections can that push down on the back that makes the connection be resued. I have to move a 5c socket from one part of house to another. I havent attempted to remove the wires yet. Thanks in advance.
I am doing the same thing, and I assume the answer is yes, since he is doing it in the video (re-wiring the A,B)
Surely this is almost obsolete as all new installations will be fibre only, even for phone lines
Lots of copper still in use we sell these items most weeks thanks for the message.
