Jackhaya Records was officially launched with the label's first vinyl release in 2020.
Before being a label, Jackhaya has been a selector and collector for years.
In 2015 he co-founded the Sound System High Frequency, and without realising it, this was one of the first steps on the road to his future label.
The Sound System reggae culture very often puts forward alternative versions of existing tracks (instrumental version, different singer and/or mix) as well as productions that have never seen the light.
From then on, Jackhaya quickly called on producers, musicians, singers and friends from more or less distant backgrounds to create or recreate tracks, some of which would be played at sessions or events.
The years went by and as the unique productions accumulated, the idea of releasing some of them in vinyl format was not ruled out.
It was around 2019 that the idea began to take shape, with a succession of events, not necessarily the most pleasing, such as the closure of Corner 25, where High Frequency was resident (since reopened in the Groove venue) and the arrival of Covid, prompting Jackhaya to prepare a first 12" release.
Initially, it was to be an exclusive riddim composed by Roots Powa and based on the melodica of Far East, which was initially set to a High Rockers cover of My Story (Blakamix).
The project was quickly transformed, with Ras Hassen Ti adding his vocals, and after playing some of the 6 existing versions (4 on the vinyl) in session, it was long-time friend King's Tone, among others, who supported Jackhaya's decision to make it his first vinyl project... JACK1201
It's not an easy task to release on vinyl, from the composition of the track, arrangement, mix, mastering... right through to pressing, label design, copyright, test press and distribution, there are always a few hazards...
Jackhaya continues to call on a number of producers for collaborations, unreleases, sound system specials and potential releases with artists such as Bushman, Radikal Vibration, NS Kroo, Keety Roots, Hitman & Fiza, Simon Nyabinghi, Macca Dread, Brother Sound, Jerry Johnson, Mafia Fluxy, TNT Roots, Chris Lane (Fashion Records), Digital Brothers, Roots Injection, The 18th Parallel, Goldmaster, I-David... (also dozen of singers for the Sound System special)
The second vinyl is on the road, based on a cover of Mash Down Babylon (Jackie Mittoo) by Simon Nyabinghi. Radikal Vibration and NS Kroo are incorporated into the project.
Meanwhile, Jackhaya discovered a recording of a Mighty Massa session with whom he had already been in contact in the past.
He couldn't resist talking to him about a track on the recording in particular, supposedly called Judgment Time, and after asking him to play it at the session he ended up offering to release it.
With the second project initially planned running behind schedule, the Mighty Massa release finally became JACK1202 in 2022.
For 2023 not one, but two releases, the famous second one which will ultimately be JACK1203 and another release based on the theme of Mission Impossible.
In 2015, Jackhaya discovered Randy's version of Mission Impossible played by Tiny T at Corner 25 and fell in love with it immediately.
It was only a few years later (and after buying the vinyl) that he decided to make new versions.
For the occasion, two different versions were released on JACK1204 by Macca Dread & Benya on one side and Brother Sound on the other, accompanied by Jerry Johnson (a famous saxophonist with whom Jackhaya has collaborated on several occasions).
