Ecoboost Swap 101

Awesome video! I was recently given a new edge mustang with a 3.8 and this video has me thinking... lol I know I can get the engine bolted in with the same AJE K-member and your mounts but I need to research wiring for a new edge. Also wife hates manuals so maybe a 6r80 option or go SBF adapter and keep the 4r70w. IDK yet, lots to research.
Oh and I need to figure out air conditioning, cant do no AC in my region. Too HOT lol
Around me. Fort myers Florida. 2.0 they are asking anywhere from $1900 to $3k
The 3.5 would be killer in a tbird TC/SC
I am looking at ecoboost swapping my e30 and in researching I had seen varying information on what 2.0 ecoboosts have closed deck blocks. It was looking like only st focus’s where closed deck and all the more pedestrian cars had open decks. Does anybody know what the deal is on what 2.0s were closed versus being open deck?
Check out my Ecoboost 101 video. I put together a list of which cars came with the closed deck 2.0s.
This build is so cool. Wild that this is the same motor in my focus. 2.0 swap seems so obvious now for a ton of platforms
So this video is for the 2.0 NOT the 2.3?
Yes sir
If you use a 2.3 ecoboost motor from a 2020 Explorer do you need to swap to a mustang oil pan? Using stock k member.
The Explorers have a rear sump oil pan, but it looks like it extends a bit further forward than the mustang pan. If you need even more room, the 01-11 2.3L ranger pan has the smallest rear sump.
I heard you said you sell the motor mounts for 100 on this video how do I get on that from you
You can find them on my website. Stroupperformance.com
How do I order mounts through you got a 2.0 going into a 92 lx
I want to ecoboost swap my 07 pt cruiser. What do you think??
Interesting 🤔
I've wanted to coyote swap my 65 mustang for years... but the prices are nuts. This seems like a interesting swap instead.
Check out Garage52B on Instagram, he is building a 2.0 swapped first gen mustang. He does some amazing work.
@stroupperformance9384 will do. Think it definitely would be a interesting build for nice restromod
@stroupperformance9384 another swap in the 4cyl range I'd be curious to see is the 2.7l that's in the newer silverados. I got it in my 22 silverado and really impressed stock it's 310hp. And 425 torque.
What wire harness did you use
I used an engine harness from a 2015+ Focus ST.
@@stroupperformance9384 thanks
JEM making mounts that utilize factory k member.
That is correct, but they did not make those mounts when I uploaded this video.
What about the head gasket issues 2014-2020?
That's not an issue on the first gen engines listed in this video. Only the newer open deck blocks have head gasket issues.
Link to the $700 ecu?

Did the TKX fit in the factory tranny mount location or did you fab a new mount? I was wondering what the measurements are from the 2.0 motor mounts to the tailstock. I have too many questions
It sits a few inches back in the trans tunnel. I used a stifflers trans mount which has spacers to adjust the position. It fit when set the whole way towards the back of the car.
If you can bolt all the 2.3 stuff onto the head to do the swap, can't you use a 2.3 head on a 2.0 block? 🤔
Yes, you can also use 2.3 internals in the 2.0 block. This way you get the best of both worlds, a strong closed deck block with an extra 0.3 liters of displacement, and a better flowing head.
so im dreaming of putting a 2.0 into an old pre-75 ranchero. Less for the power, and more for the fuel economy. think it would be a nice foundation for a daily. something i can putt around in and maintain high 20's to low 30's on the mpgs. enough torque for anything id put in the bed or pull a small trailer.
Has anyone put this engine in a 86-92 Mazda b2200? In stock form I think that would be a blast to drive.
I have seen a couple different generations of Ford Rangers with Ecoboost swaps. I'm not sure if anyone has done a Mazda truck yet.
I think if I was gonna do an ecoboost swap I’d do the 3.5 over any of them.
2.7 is the better engine
@@treysherwood1174 I disagree but to each their own
Does the fuel regulator youre using have the vacuum/boost source on it or are you leaving it free from engine intake pressure?
No boost reference, just a constant 80psi supply.
So an LS swap is way cheaper after having to buy thousands of dollars of extra parts for the ecoboost 2.0? LS with a lumpy cam sounds way better!
Would using a mustang ecoboost transmission work with the 2.0 swap? Just looking at this old 2wd ranger i know of sitting and rotting away in a field and thought it would be cool to resurrect it but would rather stay auto for the family (A to B kinda ride).
They are a bit bulky but yes the Ecoboost mustang trans should bolt right up.
Good info to know for my next build, thanks!
Just a quick video topic idea for you: Can you talk about the differences between the Gen 1 2.0 and Gen 2 2.0 engines? Are you seeing much in the way of price difference between the two?
That is a great idea, there is a lot of confusion between the two generations. I'm not sure about the price difference between the two, I don't look at Gen 2 engines because they have a weaker block.
@@stroupperformance9384 Yeah, I've been discovering this while doing my own research. I think you might be able to help a bunch of people with a discussion on this topic.
I saw the video with @ThatDudeInBlue, Awesome Car. How did youy do the steering? you said Smart 4 2, but id like detail. again, Great car!
Check out my video on installing the power steering system, I go pretty in depth into what parts I use and how to install them.
Got to hang with you a bit at the event. You were ripping all weekend! Nice to see it really coming together for you
Thanks man!
bro is cooking
Good info as always thanks bro🤘 keeps me motivated to do mine
Would drift knuckles hinder performance on autocross and is it bad for stability on high speed pulls?
I haven't noticed any bad side effects from these knuckles. They also aren't very extreme like some of the 70+ degree steering angle knuckles on the market. This knuckle is great for a car that you want to do a bit of everything with.
2.3T owner here, got any recommendations for mods? i got a built bottom end and a downpipe and some lowering springs
If you are talking about the old 2.3 Lima, definitely look into the PiMP ECU and an upgraded turbo.
EcoBoost engines are crap 💩 at best 😅
Awesome work! So cool the way you go into such detail. Keep it going!😎
So much good info thanks.
I’m confused when did these engines become reliable? I must just be ignorant and see the worse ones roll into the shop
People commonly confuse these engines with the current 2.0 Ecoboost. The older engines, like the one that I run, are closed deck blocks and are much more reliable than the current 2.0 Ecoboost.
On a 2017 2.3 ecoboost mustang motor
Using an aod ford trans from a 93 5.0 foxbody. How do you hookup TV cable?
You will have to do something custom. There are no external arms on the throttle body to connect a TV cable to. You may be able to connect it to the throttle pedal somehow
Thank you for all the info! Got my eyes on a 86 chevette. This would be a perfect swap being I already have an escape that'll be paid off soon.
How can I order a set of your motor mounts?
Email me at StroupPerformance@gmail.com and we can get it worked out. I'm still working on setting up a website.
Do you have an email?
Yes, it's stroupperformance@gmail.com
I’ve been thinking about swapping my car to a fuel cell it’s a fiesta st but idk what to do about the fuel pump control module
I would think the fiesta would be pretty similar to the focus. If that's the case, you can still use the power wire from the fuel pump control module to power the fuel pump in a fuel cell.
Will a aod trans from a 93 fox 5.0 work behind 2017 2.3 ecoboost?
Yes, it should work if you use the bell housing adapter from Esslinger Engineering.

Not messing with my 5.0 notch, but gotta admit, I would ....love... to find a clean, 2 dr Fairmont, and do this swap + 5sp. !! Lol
I am really considering a Fairmont as the next project. They are so cheap even for the super clean cars!
Worth in BRZ or skip and do more tested k24?
I don't know of anyone who makes mounts for the BRZ/FRS yet. Also the Ecoboost is a pretty tall engine, so I'm not sure how it would fit under the hood of one of those cars.
Hi there ! following your build. You mentioned the ANT Steering was not able to control the high pressure pump. Is it better to jump to the JEMsport if starting from scratch ? I do have the engine already located and ready to be bought. Next step would be the ECU ! so any advice would be appreciate it.
It depends on your goals for the car. The high pressure fuel pump upgrade isn't necessary until ~360whp. You could also do an auxiliary fuel setup instead of the HPFP.
Do you have a website? Would you be able to design mounts for a 2006 mustang v6 manual. It has a blown engine with a T5 manual
I do not have a website setup yet. It is in the plans for the near future. I need to get my hands on some different chassis to make mounts for.
Hmmmmmmmm. Thinking of a daily driver 1987 F150 RWD. The only thing I'm slightly irritated with is that I've got a shop full of mod motor-based transmissions (4R70W and T45) and all I'm seeing that's Ford related is the SBF variety...unless I missed something?
Does a 6r80 or 10r80 work behind the ecoboost?
A 6R80 from an Ecoboost mustang should bolt right up as they have the same bolt pattern as the 2.0.
I would buy this car today
