Recovering after the Biggest MTB Crash of my life (6 Broken Bones)
มุมมอง 138Kปีที่แล้ว
This video Is about my recovery so far after my biggest Mountain Biking crash yet. It was on quite a big road gap that I’ve hit hundreds of times that is actually a very easy jump to do in comparison to other styles of jumps. You have to pedal most of the way to the takeoff to get the speed but my pedal clipped the floor when I was close to the takeoff which ripped my foot off the pedal and sen...

Glad you’re doing ok. Not sure if you knew the trail. Never ever ride a trail without knowing and all the features so you know what you are comfortable with and what you need to pass.

Ah! to be young! easily influenced by YT, RedBull and other money making businesses and do things that will make one die young! An ode to cutthroat capitalism and the endless exploitable stupidity of youth! Regardless: that a very good thing you did - posting your ordeal for others to learn from. kudos!

I ride dirtbikes, Not that motocross stuff or anything. I raced the endurance style and did it for some time. Even paid to ride for a few years. Until I had the crash that cost it all. I always thought I would make it to the top or kick the bucket trying but something I never considered was getting hurt enough to end my career but not my time here on this planet. So it's a message I try and spread to this day. It's one thing to come to terms with the fact it may cost you your life and another that it may cost you your quality of life.

I really hope your recovery is going smooth (my mom is recovering from two surgeries, one that they put 8 pieces of hardware in her ankle - she fell down slippery stairs, dislocating her ankle and had an oblique fracture and 2 hairline fractures, got a tightrope, a plate, a rod and 5 screws (not including the button the bottom that was holding the tightrope in place) then, when they were too focused on the bone, they failed to realize that her tendon was torn, so when she fell (caught herself with the bad foot) while stepping down (one step) into the garage and tore the tendon clean in half, about 2 centimeters (I think) were separating the ends.. she went in for another surgery after 3 months where they removed the hardware and took a tendon from a donor (yes human ) and basically made her a new one, because of the rod being taken out, she had to stay in a hard plaster cast for 6 weeks and then move to a boot for 4-6 more weeks all the way she was non-weight bearing. Now we are 8 months in from the original surgery (the day after Crismas of 2023) she is able to walk and is now also doing at-home physical therapy!

I'm a motorcyclist, I ride a Honda CL500 on the road, but I also do an awful lot of off-road and motocross, which I use my Honda 300L for. I ride my enduro Honda on almost identical tracks as you, and I learnt one thing very quickly. The ride gear will save your life. Here in the UK, I use "Wulfsport" they do bundles for motocross gear. It's all really good quality and made in the UK. You can get the full set for around £400. The set includes everything, including a very good helmet (I went over the bars into a tree head first at about 15 mph and walked away with a light concussion and whiplash). I know you're just on mountain bikes, but investing in the right gear will prevent nasty injuries and even death. As someone who witnessed a close friend paralyse himself from the waist down, doing tracks like this (he was only wearing a helmet), having the right gear is so worth it. The doctor told him that if he had worn a back brace , he would have walked away, so it's pretty awful, really. I have a load of old spare gear in perfect condition. If you want it, I will happily send it to you free of charge. Stay safe, brother, and I hope you recovered from your injuries. Rubber side down 🤘

I broke my tibia and fibula last year on a bmx. It took 7months in a steel cage and 2weeks of cast to heal. After all that I’ve only been back on my bike for a couple of months. Good luck on the rest of the recovery ❤️‍🩹!

Wow. I had a massive downhill smash on Boxing Day (2023) and broke my left collarbone and dislocated and broke my right thumb … I rode home 12 miles , knew my thumb was fucked , once I put it back in , I thought it was gonna be ok until I tried to change gear and it came right back out again 😂 completely tore the UCL ligament. Had surgery and a plate and 7 screws in my shoulder and my thumb also surgically sewn back together , having damaged both sides I had not one arm or hand between my silly self and it was maddening. The simplest things we take for granted were off limits. I am now 5 months post surgery and back on the bike and trails. Tho massively lost my confidence so no drops or jumps for a while . Your video here really touched me, as I know first hand what it’s like, and my god boy you did a proper job there !!! I hope the heel pain goes away, my thumb is still super sore and doesn’t really bend properly , I was religious with the physio but it aches every day, changing gear is still abit hit and miss too. But iv been told by the physio the bone pain will go away , just takes a lot of time. Shoulder is 95% back to normal function , tho the plate is allways there, if you know what I mean, there’s no escaping it and the skin around lost all sensation for months and it’s coming back now but it’s like pins and needles all the time . Heal well , thank you for this video, ride safe ✌️

Epic progress, really motivating video too given the seriousness of those injuries. Broke my tibia 6 weeks ago and got the same surgery pretty much with a rod and 4 nails. Definitely not as bad as yours as I can already walk without crutches (limping a fair bit though). Congrats on your recovery and hope everything is back to normal.

Your video is cool, mate. I also made it around 2017. But... Based on local beliefs, the Bromo crater is a sacred place. Indeed, it was opened as a tourist attraction. However, local wisdom needs to be preserved. For this reason, just save your video as 'private' so that it doesn't inspire other people to do it Or you can also provide clarification in this video (written throughout the video) that you do not recommend other people do it. And you regret that you have done something that violates local beliefs I know I was wrong. I didn't take down my video. But I always remind others when they asked me about riding on the Bromo's crater. So far, they followed my advise. You can too (by doing those written above).. Btw, I'm Lewish's friend. He knows me (you can ask him) I just want to protect my friend, don't want to bring him down

Thank you for visiting the beautiful Bromo However, we would like to inform you that the peak of Mount Bromo's crater is a sacred place for the Tengger tribe. and it is strictly not permitted to carry out activities at the top of the crater other than visiting. It's very unfortunate, there is a cycling scene at the top of the crater which we think is prohibited by local residents
