This is a loose, abstract watercolor butterfly that is really fun to paint! You can use any round brush of your choice and 4 main colors- a base color for the background, a contrasting color for the veins, a complimentary bright color to splatter, usually a warm color, and finally, a neutral black. I also use a white gouache to splatter around, which creates a delicate atmosphere to the wings. ...

Where did you get the template for the humming bird or did you free hand draw it.
I drew it, but a template of a difficult shape can be really helpful, whether it's something you draw or trace on paper, then cut out. That way, you can experiment by painting something multiple times quickly.

Beautiful! I find that most people tend to make the bottom section of butterflies too big. I'd live to see what this ine looks like with a bit smaller bittom section. 😊

So beautiful! I had trouble keeping my paper, wet enough while working on this. What kind of paper are you using?
I have used both cotton and cellulose paper. It definitely needs quite a bit of water, especially with cotton paper. If you try again, wet the butterfly first, then wait a minute to let it soak in. Then, wet again where you see it drying up. Let me know how it turns out!

Love it. Really like your very fine rigger, can you tell us about it please?
Thanks! My rigger is an off-brand that is many years old and doesn't exist anymore. I think the most important factors when looking for a rigger is long bristles that can hold a decent amount of paint. If I were to buy one, I would look for a bit thicker than what I currently have.

Yes! I have other small round brushes from them that I don't use much, but this one is the best! Do you have any other favorites from that brand?
@bloomfeatherstudio1003 I also have their 1" flat that I also love. Otherwise I use the small round size 6 for details!
