The BEST rockhounding beach!! 😍
มุมมอง 1.8K25 วันที่ผ่านมา
The BEST rockhounding beach!! 😍 San Simeon and Cambria have some of the best rockhounding beaches along the coast of California. This beach, William Randolph Hearst Memorial Vista Point, is consistently my favorite. Lots of jaspers in a rainbow of colors, agates, jasp-agates, brecciated jasp-agates, "moonstones", chalcedony, chert and on and on! Here's the exact location if you're in the area: ...
EEEEE!!! I can't get enough of these! 🥰

EEEEE!!! I can't get enough of these! Look at these mushroom rhyolite, moonstones (actually chalcedony), and jaspers, and I think ocean jasper!! I found these at Moonstone Beach on the Central Coast of California. You can't collect these, but you can still look!! #rockhounding #rockhounds #rockhunting #geology

Because yelling 'Here pretty rock' doesn't work! Howdy, ROCKHOUNDS! 👋🏻 I highly recommend bringing a squirt bottle on your rockhounding adventures to make it much easier to find all the pretty rocks. You never know what you might miss if you only see dry, dull rocks! Such as this mushroom rhyolite I found along California's Central Coast. BEAUTIFUL! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️

Rock Tumbling for Beginners - Tips & Tricks!! In this quick video, here's a tip and trick to balance your rock tumbling barrels so they rub against the correct washer. The other washer isn't removable, so it's important the tumbler's barrels dont wear it down with constantly rubbing. I hope this helps! Who doesn't LOVE obsidian? Check out this gorgeous obsidian rock CHUNK I found in the Eastern Sierras on Pumice Mine Road in California! The black glassy surface has always been a favorite of mine. Just watch out for sharp edges as it'll cut you bad! Do you like obsidian, too? ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️

Giant scouring pad or rock? Check out this GIANT kitchen scrubber pad! Er, I mean, pumice rock! I found this while rockhounding at Inyo National Forest. Gotta love these rockhounding adventures as they come! Talk about a huge volcanic rock! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️

I can't believe I found these 😮 While enjoying my rockhounding adventures at Moonstone Beach in Central California, I found these INCREDIBLE rocks! At first, I thought they were agates, but after some time has passed, I now think they may be mushroom rhyolite with quarts on one side. What do you think? NOTE: Rock collecting is prohibited here, but you can still look at them!! ROCK ON!! 😚
I had to dig for it! 😜 #rockhounding #rockhoundadventures #rockhound

I had to dig for it! It's not a rockhound adventure unless you have to work for the rocks! I was rockhounding at Avila Beach along the Central Coast of California when the ocean tried to hide the rock in the sand. HA, I won!! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️

Oops! I've been so busy I forgot which rocks were in my rock tumbler! They're not the green rock tumbling batch, instead my obsidian wannabe basalt rocks! Soo this was an interesting rock tumbling reveal. And the blasted rocks stuck big time in the tumbling barrel with a THICK slurry! I really had to dig to get them out. Talk about an episode of rock tumbling for beginners. 😂 Oh, by the way, I ...

I CAN'T stop making lame rockhound jokes! Sorry, not sorry. Rockhounding makes me giddy, goofy and weird. How about you? So, yes, I found the non-descript rock vein on a hike in Tuolomne Meadows along the river and thought it was the perfect rockhound joke. #rockhounding #rockhound #rocks

I'm always finding faces in rocks. Am I the only one who sees faces in rocks? I can't be! I found this very heavy basalt rock along the Chetco River outside of the ever popular rockhounding spot, Brookings, Oregon. And, BOOM, I see a face! Do you see rock faces on your rockhounding adventures? ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️

I went rock hunting on the Oregon coast and found this! I swear this looks like a brick, but I think it's either agatized jasper or jasper with quartz veining. What do you think? As a sidenote, rockhounding on the Oregon coast is an absolute DREAM!! The variety of rocks is incredible, and yes, there are plenty of AGATES!! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️

ROCKHOUNDS! I went rockhounding at a VISITOR'S CENTER!! Hee hee! While at Mono Lake I found this HUGE obsidian rock that could easily be the largest piece I've ever found! Ok, it's in front of a visitor center, but hey, I still FOUND it!! 🤣 Do you like obsidian? Have you ever found any while rock hunting? If not, what's your favorite rock??
I wasn't expecting the sand to work nearly that well. I'm impressed, I though it would have barely any effect at all.
Howdy! 👋🏻 Yes, I was surprised how effective sand is! Mother Nature knows her stuff. This was a fun experiment! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
Most of my rocks come pre polished thanks to the river!
Winner, winner, POLISHED ROCK DINNER!! Seriously, that's awesome!! I hope you found some good ones that you like! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️

I LOVE THE PURPLE ONEEEE!!! Purples my favorite color so yay! ROCKSSSSS
Yessss!!! Funny you say that as I think they're pretty rare. So, when I find one, I immediately look for more! It drives me nuts when I watch my videos and see so many pretty rocks I missed. I swear I need a front-loader and dump truck to take ALL the rocks! Do you rockhound near a beach or elsewhere?
Well me and my family love to go on trips and lucky for me. They are full of nature and most importantly ROCKS so I kind of just collect the one I find super cool!
How wonderful!! Nature is such a beautiful and wonderful thing for the mind, body, and spirit! So relaxing! Especially rockhounding! Enjoy those wonderful trips and family time!! 🥰👍🏻🪨⛏️🚗

Thank you! This is my favorite beach along California's Central Coast! Not many people either, so it's perfect!! Have a great evening!!
@CacklingChick I grew up in Gilroy and we used to go to Sunset Beach ⛱️
I just Googled that beach! Very nice! I'm jealous as I live the beach, but really only ones with interesting features, such as little caves, rocks, birds, and not just sand. That's just me, though!
@CacklingChick yeah, we didn't much cool rocks there but lots of clams 😁
That's like in Washington State's coast!! I lived up there for over 30 years. Boring, dreary beaches! 😂
Wow 😮 can you tumble that monster 😅
Wouldn't that be something to tumble in a big cement mixer?! Imagine the noise that would make. 😮
@@CacklingChick omg 😲 it would be considered a construction site...😆
@CacklingChick did u take it home?
HA! Right!! I swear I saw a video of someone using a cement mixer as a tumbler. I need to look for that! Haha!
I didn't as I'd need a forklift! 😂👍🏻🪨⛏️

YAY!! I'm so glad to meet you, my fellow ROCKHOUND! I love meeting others who also get excited about rocks. Thank you so much for the feedback; I really appreciate it. Do you have fun places to rockhound? ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
@@CacklingChick I love the energy!! 🪨💎✨ My favorites are always looking for quartz points around my hometown, Folsom, serpentine up in Placerville (AMAZING piles of it at Traverse Creek SIA!), and hours beach combing at Dillon Beach in NorCal finding various jaspers, agates, and anything that catches my eye ✨🌊✨ Rock on!! 🥰🤘🏼🫶🏼
Also preparing to check out Moonstone Beach for the first time which is how I got here! I’m excited!! 🌙💎🐚
Quartz points? I haven't heard of that! I'm about 3-1/2 hours South of you. I just Googled all those locations you mentioned! Now I want to go, too!
How fun that you get around different parts of the state to rockhound! How do you find your rockhounding locations? 😃👍🏻🪨⛏️

@CacklingChick I just pick up rocks.. I've never found one that beautiful.. I usually pick them up for the shape.. I don't know much about geology.
That's awesome! Fascinating, are they? I can find the beauty in most rocks, especially when they're wet. I don't live near any pretty rocks, so do the long drive to the beach when I can escape! I hope you have a great day! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
@@CacklingChick same to you continue to find those beautiful gems

@@CacklingChickthanks! Doing well, enjoying the summer weather while it lasts!!
Great to hear! We're in the middle of Phoenix temperatures here in California. Absolutely disgusting! 🤯👍🏻🪨⛏️
That's a beauty. Wondering if it would keep that color if you tumbled it. It's beautiful as is though. Wow
Howdy! 👋🏻 That's a great question. I've tumbled some red chert that turned out to be the weathering rind that ground off, leaving it a non-descript puddy color. I was so surprised! I "think" this is jasper, though, but open to suggestions!!
Wooaaw they are so cool

Those rocks are cool
Thank you!! I was so happy to find them. Do you rockhound?
i live there
You are incredibly LUCKY!!! I'd take the beach life any day, but only beaches with rocks. Can't stand sand only beaches. Boring!! You don't have that issue, though. I bet you go often, right?!
When I run out of water to spray with, I still use ol' reliable and lick that rock. Geologists and rockhounds alike are not beating the rock licking allegations because it's just a true fact about our kind.
You're absolutely correct, and I still lick them if absolutely necessary, and it's not in a polluted area!! LICK ON!! 😛👍🏻🪨⛏️

Howdy, Ariel! 👋🏻 This is on Pumice Mine Road in the Eastern Sierras. My husband thinks the truck tires are allergic to highways 🤣 so this is off the beaten path (link below)! Is this hobby expensive or can you reclaim some by selling some stuff?
Howdy!! 👋🏻 Well, I'm a tightwad, so I try to avoid spending much money tumbling rocks. It depends on how often you plan to tumble and how many rock tumblers you want. A decent tumbler will cost $150 or so, but there are plenty of beginner ones on Amazon for less. The different grits and polish are $50 or so, depending on how much you buy, but it will last a while. The electricity to run the tumblers isn't all that much. I think it's a fairly inexpensive hobby, but first figure out if you'll be tumbling 365 days a year or just play with it now and then. Does that help or is it too vague? TUMBLE ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
@@CacklingChick Great ideas, gonna give it a try. thanks
YAHOO!! Would love an update if you remember!! Have fun!!!
Cool cool
YAY, glad you thought so! TUMBLE ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
I also have this tumbler and it’s nice. Except it’s annoying to use if your table isn’t completely level. The barrels end up scooting to one side and it’s problematic
Agreed on Lortone having nice tumblers! I've had the same issue with an uneven surface, so put a thin shim under the end opposite the motor. Have you tried that? SIDE NOTE: Did you know the original Lortone owner retired and sold his company to Covington, which also makes lapidary equipment? Apparently, they'll start manufacturing in late July! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
