Not sure what you mean by "rupes", is this a typo and you meant "rules"? Also, you do not have to film yourself playing, this is not a requirement in the ruleset, and the moderators of the game for speedrun dot com have validated the run as it stands. Finally, you do not understand the game's physics. The spikes do not kill you in the castle unless you press Up/Down into them; so long as you only press left/right you can easily traverse that section without hassle. Ghosts hit boxes do not activate until they start moving. The vines in the water do not kill you if you pass through the lower 'stem' part. Play the game using save states and test for yourself before throwing uneducated accusations around. At the very least watch some other runs to see what other runners are doing. You're not the first person to watch a speedrun with little to no understanding of the mechanics of what you're watching to then call it out for being fake. You're not special.

Yes, I understand this now. This video is now four and a half years old. In all of my subsequent GoldenEye speedruns I use the term 'JP' now. Thank you for highlighting this though. Note that I am British, and we don't find the term 'JAP' as offensive as other parts of the world, which is why I ignorantly used the term when I uploaded this video.

It's mostly just skill and practice tbh. I use save states so I can rehearse certain segments over and over.

LOL yeah that level is NOT friendly with the bike. I think I would use the flying stick to get past the large spike gaps when I was younger

That's way further than I ever made it as a kid lol. I don't think I made it past Lv 11 or 12. Btw, for that water bit, if you don't press up or down then you wont die lol. I just hold left and right; it's way easier than it seems once you know what to do.

I'm glad it helped, and tbf I kind of knew that people would re-route accordingly. It's mainly the first day that this guide is useful for. I too learned of those time saves that you mentioned, but only after finishing the guide lol. There is also a very easy skip just after meeting the Deku King which involves roll-jumping off of a lily pad onto a tree near the Song of Soaring, which skips out the two dragon flies. GGs on getting the cheevo, it is definitely not for the faint hearted. I had a lot of fun with this :)

Indeed, have you tried getting the cheevos on RetroAchievements? Some of them can be quite a challenge, but fun nonetheless.

No, you're not crazy, in the American and European releases they added the motorbike theme; however, in the original Japanese version (which is the one that I am running on) the motorbike theme hadn't been createed for it.

It's also the most difficult part of the run, only about 5% of runs make it through, It requires some frame-perfect inputs to get out of bound, then an extremely tight frame perfect jump with perfect positioning to jump back in bounds lol.

You don't actually need to collect the helicopter! It's just there for show. You will always start Lv 5 with the chopper, regardless!

There has been some controversy over the use of that skip in a glitchless run. In the end, the moderators at speedrun dot com decided to allow it in a glitchless run, as it is technically a skip, not a glitch. Basically, if you pause select the cane before the battle with Janken actually begins then you can skip the battle altogether, which saves a considerable amount of time.

It's actually a lot easier than it looks. So long as you don't press up or down as you go through, you will never die. If you don't press any buttons at all then you will gently bop up and down into the top of the spikes; it's only if you press up/down that you move into them and die

It's actually not luck based, it will always be the same pattern every time. Unless you get one wrong, in which case it will displace all of the following matches, but it is still easy enough to work out in practise using save states

Basically, you're supposed to grab the Letter on the first castle stage (lv 11), then hand that to the King on Lv 14 to receive the Hirotta Stone, which tells you the final puzzle when you inspect it. The only problem is, it reads from right to left which confused almost anyone that wasn't from Japan lol. I never made it that far as a kid, but I assume that people may have tried to trial-and-error the code, writing down each new correct step that they discover. Maybe...

@@dynagamerproductions8249 image this was made for kids! I played this game first time in 1993 as I was 5 years old I never made it too far! But now I took my old master system out and got flopped MANY times 😂😂 so got upset and bought the switch version that didn’t go too well either! I think I did complete it a few years ago but it was soul destroying! And you did it in like 15 mins!!’ Sometimes if you lose the bike or helicopter it’s near impossible as the controls are SO smooth they throw you down’ I also saw a TAS run and it was ridiculous - you literally almost did it perfectly apart from a few bits’ I recon you can speed it up even further as you missed a jump going on the very top a few times! But that was breathtakingly fast! I couldn’t keep up!!! 😂😂

@@Weownit69 Haha, thanks man, yeah this game was ridiculously hard playing it in the early 90s, I don't think I every got past Lv 10. Yeah, there was definitely a few errors here and there. I am inspired to go back to beat this someday, we'll see......

Yeah, I assume so, the skip that I do on chapter 7 isn't too hard, but will take a little bit of practise. In honesty, 5 hours is pretty lenient, so feel free to use this speedrun to work out your own routing; you'll have plenty of time to spare. Good luck!

Yeah, tbh it's a shame that we don't fight Janken. The boss is easy to cheese, plus, if we were to use the cane to skip the Water segment (which is what the cane was intended for on the final lv) then we wouldn't have to deal with those death spikes (although, the vine section on the screen before is actually harder lol). Unfortunately, fighting Janken results in a fair amount of times loss vs the way we currently do it, which is to use the cane to skip the Janken fight. Still, makes for an easy ending, I suppose (considering the final castle is tough as hell). Fun fact - if I were to time my pause too early to select the cane just before the boss fight, then the screen would continue to scroll through to the NEXT screen, triggering an out of bounds glitch. This will result in an inevitable soft-lock, and then a hard-lock. Every time that I pause I'm trying to do so on the earliest possible frame, while being super cautious to not press it a frame to early (so even the 'easy' ending could end in disaster if I'm not careful haha). If you wanna see a cool ending, check out the glitched run. It's a lot more crazy than the glitchless run.

Which specifically do you mean? There are some out of bounds skips that we do on the glitched run, but on the glitchless run )this vid) we are allowed to use the Cane to skip past Janken (which the mods do not regard as a technical 'glitch' - it's just going into the menu and using the cane during the fight to skip the boss). The Out of bounds skips are a lot more precise, and require frame perfect inputs. Actually, it's 1.2x speed. I'm going to assume that you're from Europe (as with myself). All PAL games that were ported to the EU back then ran at 50hz, instead of the native 60hz that NTSC-U and NTSC-J used. This means that ALL of our favorite games from back than only ran at 83% of their intended speed.
