      I can see the point you and others have made regarding the one-paced-ness of those two but think trading or delisting is a bit drastic, good backups at worst. That being said, yeah.. If you struggle in the mids again I'd assume at least one of them probably gets moved or dropped, I think Crouch might struggle to hold his spot moreso than Laird just due to potential role flexibility. I guess maybe I haven't watched Murphy closely enough, generally I considered him as an okay backup for the best 22.

    Any team with small mids you need to look at the pressure applied on the defenders. Are the small forwards providing team defence or are they just front running and not working hard enough. In the end I reckon that is what cost us often. Sides would easily move the ball from defence through the midfield to their forward 50m. So the Eagles defenders would be constantly under siege. That has been for a few years. That's why I think some guys like Ryan is under pressure. Brockman may continue to struggle to get a game unless his attitude changes. Long and Cripps seem similar types. I reckon some of the small forwards like Long should be given a run on the wing, despite him being short. We need to develop midfielders. Chesser can't play wing as he is an inside mid. He needs time at WAFL to develop and possibly could become a tagger too.

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Eagles have generally preferred a tall forward line. Remember at times they had Bailey Williams and Darling running through the forward line as well. They were considering returning Bailey Williams as a forward ruckman, but there isn't a spare spot in the list for him purely as a forward. Waterman, Allen and JWilliams are obvious starters. But then you have Archer Reid (at 203cm) who is highly regarded as a key forward. So its going to be really hard to fit him in. Interestingly as Archer fills out, he could end up playing a ruck forward role in 5 years time. But now we need to somehow give him game time.

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Flynn did a significant hamstring injury prior to season. Missed 10 weeks. Then came back and battled with injuries and ultimately finished up at WAFL. I'd go with Flynn as he is a better ruckman and Eagles midfield need better delivery. Barnett struggled a bit but he is being played all over the shop. There are multiple other young rucks in the squad and they're taking time off Barnett in the WAFL. I think he spend the WAFL season at forward pocket and ended up at full back. That's a real pity.

    Johnston was a first year player in 2024 and given opportunities down back. I think you have to reward that and you can't have guys constantly leaping over the top of 2nd year players. He needs games, but I would expect Johnston to play at least 12 games as a interchange or spare parts player. There won't be places in defence unless injury hits or team moves guys around. But sides need to keep developing their players and giving them a chance.

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    If Duggan is fit he'll be needed in the midfield. The side has wanted that for last 5 years. But often he has carried injuries or the side has been decimated and he's had to play defence to steady the ship. What if Yeo cops constant leg injuries again, could he go to the last line of defence as he did with Simmo in 2023. Every time he moved into the midfield he'd get a soft tissue injury. This was sorted in 2024, but he could end up as a down back prospect. I'd rather Baker was on ball and half forward to set example of team defence to those mids and small forwards that don't like laying tackles. But McQualter has clearly said Baker and Ginbey will be defenders.

But they're all around 30. I think its important to cut the ball supply at the source, why I like Baker up the ground. We've had a really good defence for a few years now but if the ball is coming out of the midfield with silver service to the opposition forwards and mids then a gold plated defence won't matter even. So if the forwards and mids refuse to play team defence then guys like Baker Ginbey and Hough need to be up the ground.

The Eagles of 2018 to 2020 would just chip the ball around with 20 metre passes sideways. The Eagles of 2023 and 2024 had guys trying to bring the ball more quickly down the field. Often Duggan was the guy winning the possession and going direct. Because of a poor midfield this increased the chances of turnovers. But it also led to goals. Some of the other guys were still going backwards with accurate but ineffective kicks. I reckon you're harsh on Duggan who is playing an important role. Fans will need a lot of patience with the 2025 match strategy which will mean fast ball movement and everyone rushing forward. Likely to lead to more turnovers.

Benefit of Ginbey in middle and wing was his ability to tackle hard and compete. He will play better in defence but the wing issue remains. It may be that the best wing in the squad will end up being Hough and he is being turned into a shut down defender. Seems a waste. Johnston had half back time last year and could move onto a wing. Chesser may need to be led to the ball as a tagger or inside mid. But no places available. We could lose him in 12 month if we're not careful. Baker and Ginbey are training in defence and we're already told by the coach that is where they will play. So that leads to selection issues for small defenders. A lot of good players will be fighting for spots. Hunt Duggan Hough Cole Johnston (2nd yr) Maric. 8 guys for 3 positions. Plus opportunities for Dewar who reminds me of Jetta. How can Allan play as a small defender too? Already an abundance pushes about four of those guys into the midfield or bench. The question is, which of those 8 small-mid defender types are suited for midfield roles. The mids are really weak, so they really need a lot of support. At times Barass and Mcgovern dominated the air. In 2023 it was Hurn who was in the best three virtually every match. Big concern is that all 4 key defenders are injury prone in a big way. Hence why Maric, Shanahan are obvious ones to build experience and provide options. Eagles have historically operated with only two tall defenders. I think that's a risk, but its what they do. Ginbey is strong and has a good leap but is only 191cm.

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Eagles just wanted to go with the McGovern and Barras combination and two key defenders. Hedwards really needed more experience, so I feel he got a few games as the third tall defender because of that. Hedwards has spend 2 previous years largely injured and they needed to fast track him. Despite that he still played WAFL. The logical third tall would have been Bazzo as he is more mobile and can play as a third tall and still win possession around the ground. But he has also spent 2 years largely injured. Even in 2023 there was a familly tragedy and injury, which meant he got shoved into forward roles and key defence posts when he was underprepared, due to the injury crisis at West Coast. Jamieson is the other injury prone tall utility, who can play ruck or defence. Maric is being trained in defence this year and could be a swing man being 196cm. He played wing at times last year but doesn't really suit him. Shanahan is the obvious long term replacement for McGovern at CHB.

    North's selection/drafting team let them down time and again, even when spoon fed top draft picks. It's clearly obvious to everyone that North Melbourne desperately need another mobile tall forward or two. This isn't a new problem and hasn't been addressed even with top draft picks in over a decade. The next major point of concern is North's complete lack of depth in Defense. Combden was a good find and Archer is developing, but if they get hurt or leave the ground then all hell breaks loose. 'No Defense, no flag' doesn't matter how much you jam talent into the midfield.

    Richmond trading for pick 2 only makes sense if they intend to take FOS. Jagga or other inside mids like smillie and Langford will be available at 6. Makes more sense to keep it and trade either 1 or 2 of their last 4 picks for future firsts.

    Garbage. Why swap 2 first rounders in a rich draft for 1 when you already have first? Leave North with 2 and make them choose their man or best available. Why give them a spare in case they pick a dud? Waste of time listening to this echo chamber nonsense.

    I hope you are wrong with the pick swap between Richmond and North? As a Tiger fan I don’t believe that’s in are interest? Maybe Adelaide can do that deal with North? I can not Speak for Richmond but as most Tiger fans we don’t want that deal. If we miss out on Armstrong? Then I want Shanahan and Faull somewhere in our picks. From what I hear Richmond are keen on Lalor at 1 Smillie at 6 and Allen at 10 ? I think Lindsay , Travagalia and Berry are all good around those’s picks 10 and 11 as well ? So hard decisions to be made ? But that’s why we will not trade those’s picks as we will have very good players to choose from at those’s selections ? I think to get Shanahan we need to select at pick 11 ? as I don’t believe he will be there at pick 18 ? Same with Faull at pick 20 ? If Berry is still there it will tempt Richmond over the Faull ? But if we miss Armstrong to Melbourne or St.kilda ? Then we need to get it done with Shanahan and Faull in are selections. If Richmond Football Club agrees with that ? Then watch out for Sydney with picks around that ? Wanting the same thing ? It will be very interesting what clubs view Players at ? We are going to find out very soon 🔜 with Wednesday night coming around quickly? We just need to get this draft right Richmond with the work already done by the Recruiting team and get who they want by smart recruiting on the night ? We will know after about 5 years of this draft what were the good decisions by all Clubs with the opportunity they had at selecting. As there’s been in all Draft’s Players that should have gone higher in that year. The best was Dusty and Fyfe in 2009 that should have been Melbourne picks 1 & 2 ? Bloody Hell just imagine they got that right in 2009 ? 😦😲🫨😱🤬🤯 Martin went pick 3 and Fyfe pick 20 it’s hard to believe they could have been teammates on the same team ? Richmond and the Bulldogs had a same stuff up in 2004 with Buddy Franklin getting to pick 5. I remember we were supposed to be getting Roughead ? But Hawthorn knew Richmond and the Bulldogs would not select Buddy before pick 5 and got both best Talls in Franklin and Roughead. A lesson if the Talls are good enough you take them as they are hard to get in Draft’s with out very early picks ? All Clubs have could have beens and great Choice as well ? It why selecting is so important and developing is also important! on Wednesday night for the Future 👍 Cotchin , Martin , Rance , Riewoldt , Grimes and many others by smart recruitment got 3 Flags 🏆🏆🏆 and now we have the opportunity in this Draft and other Draft’s to do it all over again? If we select Lalor ? I hope Dusty on the night gives him his Jumper? And his first game he plays that the Club is good at doing ? 🏆17 🏆19 🏆20 🐅🐅🐅😁🎉👍

    Richmond WILL NOT burn a 1st rounder just because they have multiple picks. Pick 2 would be nice, but the difference in quality is not much with pick 6. Plus, you keep an extra 1st rounder in a deep draft. Someone like Jack Whitlock could be there. What a perfect replacement for Tom Lynch in a few years time. The only trades Richmond will be doing is possibly some of the later picks into next year’s 1st round.
