Nalbind vs Crochet, a study in beanies
I did a test of crocheting then nalbinding a beanie roughly the same size to see how the process and result compared.

Sagittal Band Rupture - post successful splint treatment
I wonder if cross-lacing would also allow more length for the twist to even out before being wound on the bobbin.
That's an interesting thought. I'm not sure.
Where can I find one of the splints?
The clinic where I went made it for me
The best side of youtube
Not sure what fiber you're using, and I get that you're experimenting, but I think you don't have to be so delicate. Love watching a fellow weaver learning, as I am! I responded with more on your FB post.
One of my favourite things to crochet!
What it hard to assemble?
When I got it (2nd hand) it was already put together.
Thank you! I bought an Irish tension spinning wheel without realizing it. I was recently taught to spin on a double drive and couldn’t get the right grip on my new wheel. This really helps!
@@munchmary Awesome. Glad to hear it.
Is there a way I can message you? I'm a new weaver and would like to ask some questions. ❤
you can ask them right here :)
I had the same from flicking something off of my finger. Had the same custom splint for 8 weeks but ended up having surgery. I am now 3 weeks post op. It is a rough recovery looking at 6-8 weeks of therapy.
Best of luck to you
You haven’t posted for a bit, but if you are still doing it please post more on your table loom. You have an easy way of explaining it. I found it helpful. Thanks!
I will try
Thank you
Absolutely AMAZING video. I learned a LOT! Thank you!
Loved it ❤❤
How did you wash your hands, take a shower, etc., while wearing the splint?
The splint was plastic so getting it wet in the shower was not a problem. I was allowed to take it off to wash my hands as long as I was very careful not to contract the injured finger.
Very nice and simple. Thank you. Although I have done both floats before, I did not quite realize that I could do WEFT floats and WARP floats with the same pickup stick. Thanks for showing. Now I am excited to explore the possibilities ...
Thanks for sharing this very clear instruction on using pickup sticks. It’s exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you for this suggestion, my wheel was pulling in so fast so I just stopped using it. Now I will try it again using the cross lacing
Glad to hear it. It totally works. In fact if you do too many zig zags it gets to the point it wont draw at all!
thanks for this awesome video. explains what happened to me better than by medical provider. the splint the gave was meeeh.... custom made mine after seeing your video by tapping the middle finger above the index and ring finger. this works great. No more instability.
This is a lot of fun. Love to see what it turns into and what you’ll do with it 😊
I'm currently working a light dressing robe with a mesh stitch, but historically for heavy work, I've just.....made a lot of it. My scarf made of scrap blanket yarn in a tight single crochet was warm just by giving it a lot of volume to work with. One layer is cold, but scrunched up, it's warm.

Yeah, I don't understand the prevalence of open work crochet. It has its place, but so does solid work. Connected double crochet is a good option too if you want longer stitches without tye spaces.
Thanks :)

Like the rest of the commenters I've never heard of nalbinding before. Please continue to share textile historical shit with us. It's so fascinating! Is love you as a professor of these archaeological magics
Thank you for the video - it's given me hope that I can solve this exact problem with my Ashford jumbo e-spinner. I prefer to spin fine yarns and my wonderful husband bought me the jumbo e-spinner for my birthday thinking that bigger would be better! Sadly not so. I don't want to sell it but I'm also not interested in big art yarns so am trying to work out how to spin finer yarns on it. I have the orifice reducer but it's just too powerful for the finer yarns. Have you tried this method on an e-spinner or do you have any advice about it?
Sorry, no experience or advice about if this will work on an e spinner
Thank you for the video, it’s super helpful! I just purchased a Louet s71 and it’s also bobbin-led. I was wondering, how do you cross-lace when the singles are coming closer to the orifice as you fill the bobbin?
You will find that as the bobbin fills, it will pull less and less. Something to do with the leverage. By the time the bobbin is that full you probably will not have to cross lace at all
❤❤❤
Mesmerizing. And exquisitely beautiful.
Very helpful dude. I'm a beginner using a louet 10 and have processed alpaca to s pin. I'm having trouble with take up and excessive spinning but finding some helpful videos all of a sudden. How thin should the spun yarn look on the bobbin? My large hands are used to knitting with bulky yarns and I think I'm trying to spin the alpaca to large as a result. Any tips would be appreciated as I'm learning on you tube exclusively. Your friend in crafting. Spokane, wa. Oh and merry Christmas 🎅.
It depends a little on if you are going to 2 ply or 3 ply. I usually spin a little thicker than the wire of a paperclip and definitely thinner than the with of the lead in a wooden pencil. That gives me about a "DK" thickness of 3 ply yarn.
Excellent tutorial. Clear, concise and informative. As a new weaver I appreciate decent tutorials. Thank you.
Thank you for your video, I know it's an oldish one. I've never heard or seen cross lacing before, I would have thought the yarn would get all tangled or something, I'm going to try cross lacing for myself, thank you. Cheers from Tasmania!
Glad to help.
@@Textile_Dude 💜Thank you.
Yes, thank you! Please post as often as you can manage! Your video gives me optimism that I too can weave on my recently acquired, 50+ year old RH loom! 😊
If I can, you can!
Try turning the lights on.
What brand is this loom?
Ashford
@@Textile_Dude thank you :))
Wonderful! Listening again. 🍁🍁🍁👏👏👏
Why don't you change colours by joining new yarn? I imagine that would be invisible
Nope. Thats how i change colour already. Its the nature of nalbinding work moslty being done in continuous spirals.
Never heard of tbis. Must be a scandinavian technique. Thanks for this interesting video.
I started nalbinding several years ago as an exploration. I’ve made a bag, several caps and a few socks. I made my own needles from chopsticks, dowels, and even a popsicle stick. However if I put it down for a month or two I have a terrible time relearning. I am starting up again and I already know it will take at least a week to get it going again. I love this craft.
That happens to me with both nalbinding AND crochet :)
I’ve never heard of that ❤ that’s too cool. And your crochet is so beautiful. I usually don’t like the look of crochet so I try to knit instead, but yours is nice. What size hook are you using for the hat and gloves?
4.5 mm hook. Its 3 ply yarn I spun. Ya i dont like crochet with big loops and open spaces so i do a lot of single crochet.
@@Textile_Dude thanks Dude! 😄 you’ve inspired me to keep crocheting. Have a good one.
I've never heard of nalbinding until now, and this was such a cool video to learn from! I adore that you've made your own needles and spun your yarn. I guess I've got another crafting rabbithole to fall down, haha. wonderful video ☺
Same here. Thanks, algorithm. No idea how I got here, but glad I did.
Lovely. Read more poems to us!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I wish you comfort and complete healing❤❤❤
Thanks for this great video. My shaft levers won’t stay down. Nor will my warp brake hold. What holds your levers down?
There is a plastic gizmo in the centre of the top, between the front and back faceplates. Its able to pivot up and back down a bit to hold the opposite ends of the levers in place.
Thanks. I can move that plastic piece which is attached to a lever. However, I can only have the shaft levers in all up or all down positions. They don’t stay down for normal operation of the loom. I wonder if something id missing or if the plastic gizmo isn’t installed properly. I would love to see the inside of your castle. Also is your brake wire that’s on the brake disc round or flat? My brake wire id round and it doesn’t grip.
Many thanks for your castle and brake video. I have to manually lock the shafts in place by pulling to the left the 5” steel lever which is screwed into the “plastic shed lock” which is what I am calling in because I don’t know the real name. So it’s a two step operation to change sheds. Is it that way for you as well?
@@accordiona actually i have an elastic band that attaches to that lever thing then goes off to the left to a screw. This holds the plastic gizmo so the top is pressing against the right against a screw. When a lever comes up it pushes the plastic to the left à bit until it snaps back to the right holding the lever up. Next time you push a different lever down it causes the first one to release as the next one locks I to place
@@accordiona i made another short video showing it
Thanks!
OMG!!! You have explained this so clearly for me. I've just started my weaving journey, and in the tutorials that I have found, do not explain all the different positions together and what they will produce. Thank you 😊
Thank you for showing this ! 😊
Built this loom yourself? Great, I'm impressed!
Must feel a little odd at first, tension wise. That’s awesome you’re making your own tools! Hugs from another dude in Provence!
Its certainly different ya. I like it.
And p.s. I am in Canada, not Provence. Unless i am missing a poetic reference/metaphor you are making lol
