A timeline of photos showing my transit fanning through 2024. This year saw a slow changeover of the Vancouver bus fleet, with the delivery of new XDE60 artics, Nova CNG and Battery buses and shuttles; and the retirement of the D40LF and D60LFR fleets.

Photos of the operations of Translink's fleet of D60LFR buses. Delivered in 2007, these buses have all been retired as of October 2024. This small order was a bit of an oddball in the fleet, but had a reputation of being the best hill climbers among the articulated buses. These handful of remaining D40LF's have now made it well past their expected lifespan, continuing to delight transit fans. Though, their time is likely coming to an end as the new articulated buses arrive and threaten to displace them.

As of July 2024, all Translink / CMBC D40LF's have been retired.
1995-2001 D40LF era, good childhood memories.

Trolleys are my favorite bus! The E40LFRs and E60LFRs are amazing!

It sucks you couldn't capture any of the four electric buses.
XE40 2103 is in the group shot of buses at Hurdman Station at 0:04.
I did have limited time for transit fanning on this trip. The buses I was most interested in shooting/riding were the Inveros, since none of those ever made it out west.

I can't imagine the D40LF's will stick around for too much longer. 7409 and 7438 haven't run since November 2022, so they have already started being retired.

Why I can't see any TransLink NFI D60s
All the photos in this video were taken on a fan trip in 2016, long after the D60's were retired.
1:50 I thought all the trolley poles were switched to yellow for whatever reason.
The poles were switched to yellow to increase visibility at night, to prevent trolleys from trying to pass each other. There was never a move to actively switch poles from the grey to yellow; buses got the new poles as they needed them. So, some buses may have never needed a replacement pole and kept a grey one. Or there could have been a few grey poles left in stock that randomly wound up on the bus.
