Aliexpress PTM7950 vs liquid metal | Ruined laptops by design
All you need to know about liquid metal and PTM7950. Why liquid metal is bad (opinionated based on experience). The performance of PTM7950 compared to liquid metal. How to make your computer last and not burnout. How to replace the thermal paste on a Asus G14 Laptop. Linux is better than any other operating system. How to make a thermal limit on the cpu. The finals linux.
Do keep in mind that I have only used PTM7950 on my laptop for a few weeks, if it turns out to start having crappy performance (i will let you know), but my opinion still stands, because anything is better than liquid metal.

Wow... You have no Danish accent at all. Usually I can recognize the form kilometres away
As a chemist, It doesn't eat into your CPU die for several reasons: 1. CPU die doesn't contain aluminium 2. even if it did (as a dopant or something), the CPU die that you see when you open the CPU is actually the backside, all the important circuits are on the bottom, stuck to the socket. It will oxidise copper, but that's about it.
"opinionated based on experience" uneducated experience. just see the result without understand why there are stains on the cpu and the heatsink. also have no idea what it is but clueless evidence. well. this is why fake news everywhere. the "pump out" you are talking about is just the result of the useless machine trying to spread liquid metal on the die without human confirmation. thats all
im using ptm 7950 for my omen 2016 and my msi raider, and got huge perfomance jump, can overclock both of them and even in summer with 42c outside, the laptop never reached 90 or above using 80w on cpu side and 170 on gpu side (raider) and 45w cpu and 75w gpu on the omen, the ore you use the laptop the cooler it gets
Liquid Metal does perform better but migrates into the Silicon as well as heatsink, creating hotspots. A hotter chip accelerates the migration and the resulting "dry-out", which makes it a bad decision for regular maintenance. I agree that a composite or PTM should have been used. The issue we see in this video will be the fate of many, many PS5 in the upcoming years
PTM7950 reminds me always of Radeon HD 7950.
for me it reminds me of Ryzen 7950x3d
I understand why 2nd test has higher gpu tems gpu wattage in 1st test was literally half of what 2nd was pushing and difference is minimal or even better without any hassle of destroing your machine I'll take it as win still my assumption that gpu utilisation being lower could be cpu I don't if it is really
Interesting, good to know liquid metal is not worth bothering with - not that it would matter with the computer stuff I usually mess around with
man i was lookinng for this and you have post this video only 2 hours ago.
I don't know anything about computer repair, but I really like your magic😆
Seems like the previous owner got the screws mixed up and screwed one that was too long for that position right into the flat cable. Replacing the thermal paste on such a relatively new laptop shouldn't be necessary anyways...
The rubbery blocks you found under the circuit board are thermally conductive pads, you can use them to bridge the space between a hot component and a heat sink. I like how the TV has the speakers in their own little plastic enclosures, that way they should still sound quite decent when used outside of the TV.
These little component testers may not be the most precise, but they are incredibly handy to identify unknown components and to get a first good idea of what you are dealing with 🙂
That's a good result! 👍

Amazing video! Were there sparks inside the multimeter at 4:08? Also, which camera do you use for recording ?
Thank you, it means the world to me! I just noticed that when you pointed it out haha, I hope its the led thats lighting up in the meter, there is one at the back that can be used as a flashlight. Mostly filmed by iPhone 6, then there are multiple shots that were made with: Sony a7c, Samsung S10, Huawei p20 lite and if there was microscope footage its with andonstar ad409. Going forward I expect to only use the Samsung S10 and the mircoscope.
dell is not bad.. its just the cheap consumer grade ones.. Dell rugged 7212 is nice!! and dell Adamo is nice too.. except the screen, bubble gate..
I wish I could get a Rugged 7212 for repair haha. Never seen the Adamo model that looks similar to a microsoft surface book (gonna upload a video with repairing that soon). Talking about DELL's in the next few weeks I will fix a XPS one... I think its a 15inch. Didn't have the time to get to it yet haha
This was fun! I REALLY wanna get one of those LCR-TC3 things there, that looks SUPER handy! As for the magnetizer demagnetizer, It's gotta be with a part that does not already contain a real magnet. Take a normal screwdriver (or any ferromagnetic metal rod) that does not contain any magnets, and drag it along the sides of the magnetizing hole. Repeat for a while, I think? I can't remember, its' been like, 20 years since I've used one. It should now be magnetized! If so, then try the demagnetizer! Maybe catch a youtube video showing you how it works! There is a method to it! Anyways, keep up the great work! :D Looking forward to more videos!
You meant to say you've 'shocked' yourself multiple times! 💥~ Electricuted? You can only die once. ⚡😵
I have not been electrocuted haha, that would be once in a lifetime experience :D I've been shocked with 220v a few times. Although the exposure was not more than a second, it did leave a strong burn on the contacted area. The mark did fade now since that has happened about 20 years ago.
Oh!!! I just checked the captions, I did say electrocuted ! haha thanks for the correction. 🙈
You were not scammed; as others have mentioned, it's simply a lack of knowledge on how to use these devices.
Thank you for the comment. I have replied to everyone below, let me know if your opinion have changed. Also the opinion of being scammed is different to everyone. But i will make a small conclusion to prove the fact: 1. (Scam) the display driver: ordered for the ipad screens which is powered through usb-c , but i received an absolutely different product 2. (partial scam) the heat plate: judging from the page, i was expecting it to have a power rating of 500w, but I guess I am too naive(there is a longer explanation below in the comments about this), but it does work. I will most likely create a power limiter circuit in the near future 3. (Not a scam) power meter 4. (Not a scam) Cable tester 5. (partial scam) the snippers - they are coated with "black paint" on handheld tools, the point of such coating is to prevent rust, but as you saw in the video, that coating is scraped of with ease. But the tools seems to work. Also I got what I paid for 6. (Not a scam) The mini voltmeter - GORGEOUS! 7. (not a scam) component tester - great device 8. (not a scam) peltier 9. (scam) the magnetizer/demagnetizer - as mentioned in another comment, it did not demagnetize a single of the magnetized components that I have tested of camera. To conclude, there is a plural number of scams in the video. I am not great at verbalizing on a live commentary video. The idea of buying all these cheap products is that I was expecting to be scammed harder. Thank you for your feedback
Well your Pine64 has this guys stamp of approval. I dont use ali-express much anymore after I was scammed out of $10.93 but yes I will agree most Chinese manufactured items are garbage and sadly the once reputable Amazon Prime has become just as bad as ali-exoress. I'm top the point now if I really really need something I'd rather buy something used locally that was manufactured ANY PLACE other than china. Most recently I went through a 48v wheelchair charger swap-a-thon due to the one I have been using for years being dropped causing pcb to crack. I went though 4 Chinese garbage chargers that in some cases if left charging the bat would have resulted in damaged bat or worse. They all went back to Amazon before finding a used replacement of the same Japanese manufactured charger that was manufactured back in the 90's and now my old charger can become a "hopefully not needed" parts charger....
You probably didn't get scammed with that driver. What you have there is the driverboard for the LCD panel in that device (Apple tablet?). That connector is a 30 pin LVDS connector. It goes in the panel controller of the LCD panel in the device. You probably have to give the driver board 12v DC and a HDMI/VGA signal. If you open up the device and take out the LCD panel, you'll find an type code on the back, that tells you what driver board it needs. This works for every LCD in tablets or regular desk monitors. (I have tinkered with taking apart LCD panels to get just the LCD matrix - those driver boards from AliExpress have all worked just fine for me)
If you noticed in the video ( and the part where i show the product and the product page ), the devices are different. I paid for a usb-c powered one that looks different from what I have received. I have failed to verbalize properly in the video. Thank you for the feedback.
Not exactly unexpected that a plain resistive heater element would draw above rated power on start when cold. Would be interesting to see an insulation test 500V/1000V/..., wires to body
I agree! Low heat = low ressistance, also its possible to be temperature controlled. But for something thats a noname brand from aliexpress without any datasheet with the only thing being written 500w on the sales page, one might expect it to be the power rating 😄
@Stonelab Stated Watts, Lumen, mAh, etc., on any of the marketplaces, I tend to take with a truckload 🚛 of salt... IME usually anything from mild to utterly wild exaggeration to look good to the unknowing, but occasionally understatements likely due to not really knowing what they're selling. (be extra vary when there's a serious mismatch in product type and shop name, like electronics components/modules sold by something like Erica's wig shop...)
For the Peltier module, you are supposed to attach heat sink and fans on both sides. The screwdriver at the end already has a magnet attached to it which sits under the bit, so it is only meant for regular screwdrivers with non changeable bits. I think you also missed the fact that the electric energy meter also has an app, and can connect to Wi-Fi.
A peltier can be used to cool one side, heat the other if supplied power and it will do so wastefully as the technology in it self is quite useless and a freon using system will produce not only better results but also will have better performance. If heat instead is given to the peltier, it will generate power. There was no intent this time to create any technical measurements with the peltier, it was just to see if it works - which it did. As I do not have a big use case for it today, it was bought with the intent to be used as a load. This might be only the second video where I had the intent to do a live commentary, I don't usually speak while I do things as I always avoid multitasking. About the magnet, as mentioned in one of the previous comments, I tested previously, it does not demagnetize. I could make a follow up covering all the things from the comments for the next video. About the energy meter having wifi and or bluetooth, I find the spyware apps pointless, also I didn't give enough attention to the device. I only scratched the surface on all of the products. Thank you for the feedback :)
To be known: holder has a magnet inside, to hold the bit in, bit becomes magnetized, does pickup screws if you only did use the bit to try
I know the bit driver that I was using has a magnet inside, but it doesn't change the fact that the magnetizer/demagnetizer(the tool) does not demagnetize. The magnetic "testing" part in the video was quite synthetic as I have tried it a few days before filming the video. I could make a follow up video to address many of the comments here. I hope to be wrong :) The point of the story is that: I magnetize quite a few items which can be magnetized (metal screws, non aluminum metal pieces...) and I was not able to demagnetize any single one of them.
I would like to see you magnetize the bit, i that part works, try to demagnetize the bit Just to try. I am aware that the most of the products doesnt do what they are suppost to do
Those usb cable testers are ok to check broken cables that have disconnected pins but I hope they will do MCU based that can detect if cable is miss connection. Basically quick test for own cable mods or shorted wires. I think there was some old RJ45 tested that used 4017 to test individual wires. Also PTC heaters will take more power when it's warming up.
MCU based cable tester might be overkill - unless you are interested in having specific resistances or diode value read outs :0 That would be quite useful on phone motherboard specific connectors 🤔 About the PTC heater taking more power - I might be wrong, but according to my knowledge and documentation online (one example we can use "BOYD Corporation - PTC Heaters Guide SAFER AND FASTER HEATING SOLUTIONS"). A power rating is a value that is not something to be exceeded to avoid device damage and to have expected results. Unless I am too naive and believe that aliexpress would note a power rating, maybe its constant power rating, maybe its peak power rating. Who knows, there is no datasheet or information what type of heater is used and what are its limitations. If it says 500w but its pulling 1200w, I will just in case be a coward and hide my face a little before the surprise hits me in the face 😄

Hey, I'm trying to open mine as well. Are there screws in the holes where the front dust shield goes in? I saw 4 small screws but after removing them the 2 halves don seem to split
Hey, if i understand correctly what you are asking: when removing the front dust cover, there are in total 10 screws that you need to unscrew to split it. There screw heads are triangle shape. Hope it helps.
you have x230 with the older kb!
How about the spacebar key?
Similar to how the x230 and t14 enter keys are - there are two long metal stabilizers. Push a spudger in between the key and the stabilizer and it should easily pop off.

Hello I’m from Miami Fl and it doesn’t even get cold here and I had to fix my thermostat and I was just scrolling thought TH-cam and found your video after I just fix mines last week lol their fun
good stuff bro.
On a different unit, the marking was UAAC CEH, yours is UAAF CCH. I'm leaning towards OnSemi's FUSB302BMPX with top mark "UA" in WQFN14 package, described as Programmable USB Type‐C Controller w/PD. I found one listing on Aliexpress with markings UAAD GNB in matching font, so I'm fairly confident that's it. Please comment if you decide to replace it!
I salute your ability to find chips! I have already taken a few parts from the fnirsi donor, but i think we can for sure revive it. I'm going to order it in December and do a video next year when I'm back in my lab :^)
