Fridge and freezer drew a ton of power on my sea-trial trip even with the engine running, this podcast just completely changed my thinking! Sure I could add more solar and figure out a way to keep the fridge and freezer going, but in reality the cost does not equal the reward. I realized on that trip that the thought of losing all of that food in the fridge and freezer was causing me more stress than if I were to have no fridge/freezer at all. Plus the space I will now gain back will be huge and will allow for even more storage of food which will not need to be refrigerated at all. Thank you! TL:DR- Refrigerators are not necessary for sailing!

I'm very confused about the ACR v6. It claims to send AIS as well as satellite, and it has a space for the boat's MMSI, but I cannot !@#$ing figure out how to program in my boat's MMSI to the ACR V6! ACR has been beyond useless about this. I'm starting to think that it doesn't actually send out my MMSI, but has a Top Secret MMSI already programmed into it, which makes no sense, unless it's programmed to just scream I AM AN EPIRB HELP! :-/

How about the bow? If you’ve got a place on the bow of a motor yacht, is the flag going to be your country flag or something like the flag on the port side? Or the courtesy flag?

Clip it to your PFD Yeah, you should always be wearing THAT too, since it's far more likely to help you than the kill switch. Far, FAR more boaters drown than get run over by their own outboard yet very few cruisers (fewer than 1% I would wager).ever wear their PFDs in their dinghy. It's just not cool to wear it I guess. Also this recent tend of standing up while driving a dinghy is pretty dangerous too IMHO. I've been seeing it more and more in anchorages lately -especially since the recent COVID boom of young newbies. That's one of the basic safety rules of a small boat. Sit down! Standing up while motoring is going to increase the chances of falling out like 10,000% Come to think of it I have NEVER seen someone who is standing up and holding onto the painter like Cool Biff ever wearing a PFD while doing so. Perhaps there is a correlation here?

After 3 months extended shake down in the Bahamas (and the trip from New England south to get there), I am headed back North as well. I had always left the option open to continue on further south if things went well and I absolutely loved it (they and I both did). Unfortunately the reality for me is that there are still a lot of things I need and would like to do to the boat before going farther afield to both feel more comfortable that the boat is well founded, but also that I won't have to encounter and surprise major work once way out. I'm sure to some degree the more southern islands are more self sustaining and have reasonable facilities (I've particularly heard this about Trinidad and Grenada), but it's something I would rather not leave to chance. Just arrived in Lake Worth area yesterday, and will spend a couple weeks here sourcing some parts and if I'm lucky, some custom stainless work before heading North to at least North Carolina for haul out and a bunch of bottom related projects. All this is to say, I know the feeling and how hard it is to make the decision. It's always tough to make. Best of luck with your projects, and hope we can share an anchorage sometime!

Nice content, but at least put pictures of what your talking about on the video, watched a few of your podcasts and enjoyed them, but the lack of screen images/video is too painful for me, there's a reason why most successful podcasts have video, it's visual stimulation! Otherwise it becomes a glorified radio broadcast, or feels like an audiobook! Anyway good luck with your channel and if the format changes I'll be back for sure!

You need to remember that the larger your boat the more work it requires. Big boat = big problems. Small boat = small problems. So incidentally, people who cruise on less comfortable boats are much more comfortable in the long run.
