Lionel Milk Car 3472 Operation
Depicts the operation of the Lionel 3472 Milk Car with the car body removed. The car can hold seven milk containers not five as I had said while making the video. With the help of my seven year old Grandson, I used a wire brush attached to a variable speed electric drill to remove the rust that had built up on the platform. I then brushed on a coating of greaseless lubricant "Platinum Grade #1" by LPS all over the platform and the entire car (inside and out). I also replaced all the exposed and deteriorated wiring. Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when removing the door frames. The bottom of the frame is very easy to break (which I once did) when you are trying to remove the door assembly. I have brought several 3472's and 3462's back to life. It is a very fun-filled and rewarding repair project. Have FUN!

Nice stop and go action. Well done. Just a side note. You might want to edit your title. It’s actually a #465 Dispatch Station, not a #462 Dispatch Station. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Tom
Ok, thanks. You are correct! I will try to edit the title.
I thought about you last Friday! 👍 Was at Mama's daughter Train breakfast meeting come and see us If you can.✅
Gailyn, Sir, Thanks for remembering my son, Bo, and me. My son's schedule has changed so we cannot join you for breakfast, at least for a little while. Please give our best regards to the honorable and highly respected members of the breakfast groups. By the way, I submitted a "Tips and Tricks" article which was published on page 66 of the Summer 2024 Issue of "Classic Toy Trains" magazine. So now I can officially claim myself to be a Freelance Contributor of Kalmbach Media (which was recently purchased by Firecrown Media, Inc.) I am looking forward to the September 28th, 2024 Train Show. Perhaps my son, Bo, and I will have the good fortune to see you and some of our friends there!
@@RiderCoach09 I'm glad you are doing good! I know how busy life can be. So I just hope you come whenever you can.👍
Did you have a thin piece of plastic protecting that shiny metal platform? I just took it off
Did anybody notice the screaming child in the background💀💀💀
Thanks for subscribing I hope you will enjoy watching my videos. 👍
Great work, Rich Things made back then were built to last a long time. Nice channel I just subscribed to your channel 👍
Love the video but can you show how to replace the door frames with replacement doors and please tell me what gauge wire is used so I can rewrite my unit. Thank you so much for your help.
Robert, please forgive my tardy reply. I will try to answer some of your questions. My favorite supplier for all things Lionel "O27" and "O" gauge parts is Henning's Trains128 S LineSt.,Lansdale PA 19466, harryhenning@comcast.net, (215)362-2442. It used to John Amir at The Train Crossing in Costa Mesa, CA but I haven't been able to reach him for a few months now. His voicemail box is full and has been for months-not a good sign. For rewiring rolling stock as well as stationary accessories I use 20, 22 and sometimes 24 gauge very flexible wire. I've run out of 20 gauge so I'm using mostly 22 gauge. For providing power to the track I use 18 gauge wire. As for making another video showing how to replace the doors, I have to ask for your indulgence: I have retired and just do not have the motivation to make videos anymore. So please forgive me. Perhaps someday I'll be inspired make more videos but until that day comes I humbly ask for your compassionate understanding. I rarely use my RiderCoach09 account. When I do get on the computer I use rjgreger@gmail.com most often. May you and your loved ones stay safe, healthy and happy! Respectfully, Rich Greger
We picked up one of these for $9 at an auction. We didn't know what we had until we got home and wondered why it seemed so heavy. Now we need to find the platform for it.
Thanks for the in depth videos. When I opened mine up I not only found gummy grease on the gears but gummed up grease on the base of the post with the rubber band going through the case. Thanks again!
I bought a 3472 at a local flea market for $5. I always wanted one. I have no loading dock. One of the rear doors is missing, but I love it.
I have one of these sitting on a shelf in front of me now.
You did well, Rich. You really are tech. Take things apart, make them and then put them back together again.
Prachtig verhaal Rich.
You can certainly be very proud of yourself. Well done, my compliments.
We’re did you get the rubber belt
January 22, 2021 -Fred Sir, I believe the "rubber belt" to which you refer is the O-ring I purchased from my local (which at that time was in Tustin, CA) Ace Hardware Store. They had quite a variety of O-rings from which to choose. May I humbly suggest that you check out your nearest hardware store for an appropriately-sized O-ring? If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me. I wish you and your loved ones Good Health and Safety in this challenging pandemic time. Respectfully, RiderCoach09 -Rich
You fixed that very well. I have a question (if I may): Can you and will you give me the numbers of the parts? From the strap and the sprocket please?
To: Hans van der Heijden, Jan 21, 2021, I regretfully must tell you that I have stored away all my Lionel trains until the 2021 Christmas Season. I am sorry to say that I cannot help you today. But just in case in the middle of some night some time before next Christmas I get the urge to unpack my trains and search for the numbers you seek could, you please be a little more specific? To which "strap" and which "sprocket" are you referring? Thank you for your kind words. It was an easy fix once I figured out how to disassemble everything without destroying anything. I needed only to clean away the old grease and replace the O-rings. I wish you well my friend-have fun bringing these fantastic creations back to life! Respectfully, Rich Greger rjgreger@gmail.com
@@RiderCoach09 Dear Rich, The O-rings, please. With very kind regards, Hans
@@hansvanderheijden153 January 21,2021, @7:15 p.m. Central Time Zone, (Texas Time) Hans, Sir; Once I figured out how to open the assembly that houses the O-ring and the gears, it was easy to clean the gears, and take the old deformed O-ring to my neighborhood Ace Hardware store. There, one of the sales assistants helped me to choose an appropriately sized O-ring. The hardware store where I lived in California, had many sizes of O-rings from which to choose. Three years ago I moved from California to Texas. Since Ace Hardware is a chain store, one day just for the heck of it, I visited an Ace Hardware store near my new home in Texas. Interestingly enough, I remember I checked to see if this store in Texas had a large assortment of O-rings like the store in California had. Sure enough- they had the same assortment and exactly the same display as the store in California. Remember it was a faulty O-ring that destroyed the space shuttle Challenger back in the 1980's. And today it is an O-ring that you need to bring the Lionel Overhead Gantry Crane back to life. As an aside, my crane is labeled Bethlehem Steel. My father was a crane operator in the Bethlehem Steel Company. I had to buy that crane( the store owner did not want to sell it to me because it was non-operational) and bring it back to life in remembrance of my father. Again, Hans, Sir, I hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy-always. If you have any other questions for me, please feel free to contact me again. Respectfully, Rich Greger, rjgreger@gmail.com or through my TH-cam channel, RiderCoach09. By the way, I just uploaded a video about a Lionel Trolley project onto my channel. You can check it out at: th-cam.com/video/KJ6BLaiPAn8/w-d-xo.html
@@RiderCoach09 Could I call on your time? Would you like to buy me some of those O-rings and then send it in? At my expense of course !!! I would be very grateful to you for that. I've looked all over here but can't find what I'm looking for. You have carried out this repair to your crane very well. If I had a few of those O-rings, I can also make my crane running again based on your videos. I would love to hear from you and wish you and yours much health. With very kind regards, Hans

Purchased O-rings from Ace Hardware. The O-rings work fine and were very inexpensive.

Why is this recommended 1 year after
Scott, I bought the O-ring from my local Ace Hardware store. Respectfully Rich Greger, rjgreger@gmail.com
Very cool, I have the same set from my Dad. Yours looks like it is in mint condition! Merry Christmas!
Mike Spath Sir Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family too! If you want yours train to be in better condition it just takes a lot of tender loving care, some alcohol on c lot of cotton swabs, a soldering iron, New wires solder (don’t forget flux$ and Greenberg’s Repair and Operating Manual for Lionel Trains 1945-1969 7th edition. I wish you and your family well. Respectfully, Rich Greger
Mike, Thank you for your kind words! I am surprised to find that you actually checked out my humble youtube channel at ridercoach09. I don't remember the last time I signed on to this channel. I can't find video 3. I need the same repairs so hope you have completed your video 3!
I like the video at night because you can see the light lit up. In daytime you can't see it as well.
I am sorry, but is this supposed to be informative? My 7 year old grandson should be able to better as long as he can adlib on the fly, just like you have done in this video.

Just looked at this again... I'm sorry but this was very poorly done. No substance just jabber! 3 parts?
Yes Sir, Mr. Collins, I agree with you that this collection of videos showing how I repaired my coal loader is very poorly done. Three years ago, at the time I was trying to fix my coal loader, I thought I would document for for myself how I fixed it and then share what I had learned with anyone who would be attempting to fix their coal loader. I was (and still remain) not very adept at making videos nor was I professional in my ability to upload them to TH-cam. I apologize for my amateurish technological performance. In my apology though, I must tell you it was not my intent to make a professionally acceptable video production: my intent was to learn how to fix my coal loader without destroying it and then sharing that knowledge with others who want to fix their coal loaders without destroying theirs as well. I guess my attempt to share my findings, although done with good and altruistic intention, was not acceptable to you nor your seven year old grandson. I do apologize for not being able to make a video production to your satisfaction. I must also tell you that, at the point where the videos stop, I had a very challenging problem disassembling the coal loader. It was so challenging to me that I could not take a video of that successful procedure to share with others who would run into that very same the problem. Instead, the videos stop at that most challenging point. I hope others will forgive me for not being able to share that knowledge with them due to my lack of ability to concurrently multi-task disassembly, recording, and uploading. I still remain technologically challenged to do these things. I wish you and your Grandson well. I also ask the Good Lord to grant all who read this comment Good Health, Good Fortune, and Happiness. Respectfully- RiderCoach09- Rich
so dark and far but nice lionel..
Excellent Rich! Used to have one when I was (see face profile) this young! Thanks! I know you worked hard on this!
Pretty neat! Was it broken when you bought it? What was wrong and how did you fix it?
