I would put him as Lawful good on this scale. He only does what is right by his views. He is very much like Zodd and Savage, how he thinks himself a "God amongst Man". Superior. So I agree with you. Just because he has the card saying he's a hero, doesn't make him one.

I think Fate is terrified. He wants to protect the world form extremely powerful forces who seek to take everything from everyone, and he fears that if he's not there to use his power to stop it, no one will be able to. There's an element of arrogance there (believing no one else can do it), but he's also essentially been betrayed by everyone who was supposed to help him do that. That doesn't justify it, but it is a bit of a different story than him just being a control freak. Whether that's enough to say he's not a hero is for you to decide.

***** well I believe he's afraid that if he let the person who's using the helmet go he will be put on the shelf again, never used. I believe that's his true fear. But I also believe this fear is his own fault. Most people are reluctant to put the helmet on because they know they won't be able to take it off. So basically he is fulfilling his own fear by his trapping people who use his helmet. "NO ONE CAN TRUST HIM!"

I believe he has three sides to his reasoning of possession 1 has been said, 2is he needs a vessel for his power and the reason he is never good and is never evil is because he does stuff by fate which is said in his name DR.FATE

I disagree on two points 1. Even he needs a vessel for his power, to protect (or fulfill) fate I have a hard time believing he needs it 24/7. He can give his host a day off with his daughter once a week or month. 2. Fate is an abstract force incapable of being good or evil , Dr. Fate however is a sentient being which by default makes him susceptible to making good or evil decisions. my point being that for an abstract force to cause something to happen, it's neither Good nor evil. But for a sentient being to make that same thing happen makes it a good or evil decision. notice I said decision not fate. big difference.

The hardest part of the outfit would be the helmet. But I think that would be cool. This is my favorite incarnation of the Doctor Fate outfit.
