Stave 4 of A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens; The Last of the Spirits.
Dickens was paid by the word. And Slagg reads every one. This includes words that are unlikely to be understood because we haven't used them in the a very long time. This includes all of Dickens' allusions which would have been crystal clear to readers in his time, but which refer to things now lost to time except for his allusions.
Slagg believes that A Christmas Carol should be abridged and adapted for the enjoyment of the modern audience. But the purpose of this exercise is completeness, not enjoyment. Consequently, the best application of this video may be for assisting people in falling asleep.
Many look for TH-cam Videos to fall asleep to. And what better to fall asleep to than this classic Christmas ghost story by that master wordsmith, Charles Dickens.

Repost from the old channel. This was recorded on Easter Sunday in Novara, Italy in 2019. It features found sound, first from an evangelical group meeting on the main floor of the building I was staying in, and then from the Easter service in the main cathedral in Novara, the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Dickens may have been paid by the word, but they weren't originally his words; and his preface is sheer hypocrisy. He was stealing someone else's Spiritualist redemption novel, dumbing it down and secularizing it for quick cash, to avoid falling into debt. After 15 years of arduous research, I've identified the real and original authors as American couple Mathew Franklin Whittier and his wife, Abby Poyen Whittier.
Thank you very much for your comment. I'm not a TH-cam wizard, but understand that comments encourage the algorithm. Could you please provide a link to the work you assert is the original? I'm sure I'm not the only person who would appreciate the opportunity to assess your claim. Certainly in tone and style, A Christmas Carol is very much Dickens, but just as with Shakespeare, it's always interesting to know what the writer started with.
