Restoring rusty seized motorcycle spokes
These 37 year old spokes were rusty, loose and seized so I decided to have a go at restoring them rather than buying new ones. Cleaned up pretty good and saved big $$ for several hours work.

Won’t they rust? You just sanded all the coating off them.

Instead of vinegar use free all in a can overnight it will literally eat almost all the rust off

Well...as far as I know, you did right to derust your spokes and nipples with vinegar. Vinegar is acid and like all the acids, it tends to removes rust and zink plating. I leave zink plated rusted parts overnight covered with vinegar. After that, I give them a good wash and I dip them in a solution of tap water and Washing Soda (Sodium Carbonate) to neutralize the acid. Then I rinse them with water. I always use gloves not to leave any fingerprints and for protection. Goggles are a must also. After rinsing them with water, I dry them with compressed air. Now, you have metal parts that in contact with oxygene they rust. So you have to protect them, or very soon you will end up with a bantch of rusty parts. Now you must zink plate them. This is another story....I could tell you if you are interting for... Cheers.
