POV You Drive the 2004 SL55 AMG on Scenic Backroads HD SOUND 4K
Loved making this. The exhaust has been mic'd up for better sound!! Listen to the roar of the supercharged V8 driving along these scenic roads in stereo 4K quality. Exhaust mods are a muffler + secondary cat delete with an X pipe. I know the dashboard is a bit dusty!

Exhaust 101 tells you to get rid of the mufflers if your car is not loud enough, so I did just that, plus more (X-pipe)!! Take a listen to how it sounds - Not too loud, but not too quiet. There is a bit of drone around 2000-2500 RPM that I had to get used to. All in all, very happy with the results! Sometimes things will get in between you and your goals, and many times unexpected. Here's a short overview of what's been going on in my life, and how I'm planning to go on. If anyone watching is suffering from a fate similar to mine, whether bigger or smaller, please know you're not alone! Many have trekked this journey before, it's no doubt a scary one. Here's why people call old Mercedes "Money Pits"
มุมมอง 23Kปีที่แล้ว
It's been a while since I've posted last, mainly because I've been busy fixing some things on the SL55. We've all heard the saying that "there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes / BMW / other European car". In this video, I go through my personal experience in purchasing a 20-year-old car, and fixing it up for the past 6 months. If you're looking for a car like this, or something s...
A $30 part caused my used $130k Mercedes SL to stall (and how I fixed it)
มุมมอง 4Kปีที่แล้ว
I guess with old cars it comes as no surprise that some things will fail, or are bound to fail. This is the first major failure I had gone through with this car. In this case, one single sensor (crankshaft position) caused the whole car to shut down at highway speed, and I go in detail about the incident and how I fixed it.
Here's 5 modern features on my old 2004 Mercedes SL
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
For a car that is 2 decades old, the 2004 R230 Mercedes SL sure had a lot of options that really made it stand out from your regular car - some of which are just becoming common today! Here I go over a few of them, and which ones are my favorite. 0:00 Intro 0:32 Keyless Entry 0:48 Push To Start 1:02 Panoramic Moonroof 1:22 Rest Mode 1:52 Heated Ventilated Massaging Seats
I bought a used $130,000 Mercedes SL from 2004, here's what's wrong with it
มุมมอง 36Kปีที่แล้ว
This Mercedes SL55 was $130,000 in 2004, which equates to $208,000 today, and I bought it. With 45,000 miles, is this a steal or a total money pit? In this video I go over some small issues it may have, and some thoughts about the purchase. You make very high-quality videos, mate. Thought you were a large channel before I went to sub. I hope you keep making vids.
thank you :)
Your background music needs a change.
Great video👍 I am mostly a BMW person but recently purchased a R171 SLK. Like you said the SLK is the more fun car. SL great for cruising, although I would wonder why not just get an E class with a sunroof instead?
lol the first 7 seconds is how I feel about BMW 😂
The SLK320 is a great ladies' roadster. Never cared for the 4 cylinder version. My wife drove one for eight years before we gave it to my daughter. Too small for me so I got a SL500 Sport, a gentleman's roadster.
I was looking for the smallest car with the biggest engines, on a budget, so what did I end up with, a SLK55AMG and a BMW Z4M roadster... If you think SUV's are cool these cars are not for you... but they will make you want to just go out for a drive, because you can... and when you look back at that car, you have fond memories of that experience, a car not an appliance... Thanks for the review, reminds me of why I get into cars...
did you remove the resonators too and what kind of xpipe did you use?
Resonators are still on. I used a Magnaflow True X 2.5in 10791 X pipe
I removed my resonators a while back so removing muffler an resonators would be to loud do u think? Is it possible u can send me exc what u did an removing secondary cats did cause any problem an there is no drone while driving thank you for your help
@@FeisalOsman-y1h Sorry I dont have a picture of what exactly was done... but it would definitely be louder with the muffler and resonator removed, "too loud" is really up to personal preference. But i also did remove the secondary cats, and it does cause a drone around 2000-2500 RPM
Thank you for the information.
Amazing video production.
Thank you!
If you buy a car like this just buy it with like 40 or 50,000 Mi and it'll last you for years to come definitely do not buy something like this with over 100,000 Mi you'll be dumping money in it all the time hands down 100%
You didn't mention or show the hard top folding into the trunk. They are known for the hydraulic cylinders leaking. 13 of them. The first one to leak is the locking cylinder above the inside rear view mirror. When it leaks, it runs down the channels above the side windows and warps the rubber seals. Look at the seal on the car you were in. OMG, so wavy. Is THAT why you didn't even mention the convertible top? That's one of the MAIN features/gremlins of the car and you totally blew by it.
That issue is mentioned briefly in the two of the previous videos
It's important to cycle the roofs on these at least montly to keep everything loose and lubricated. Leaving one sit in the garage all year will lead to sticky hydraulics and eventually a leak.
I bought one knowing nothing about it (stupid me). 03 sl55. Has costed me 3 grand already and another 3-4k more to go. It was low mileage but I had to do all mounts, complete engine maintenance all fluid plugs etc. Just had conductor plate done too. Now gushing out oil from rear main seal and abc light come on when I go over bumps. I don't do any of my work, I pay shops to do it.
A rear main? What kind of mileage is on it? The ABC light means a compensator is going bad.
@@Cwra1smith 03 sl55 135km not miles. Rear main seal gushing oil when I step on it. "drive carefully" abc msg when I go over small bumps and a slingshot type of sound under the rear floor. I am thinking of doing coilovers
@@tectoronto2598 I've never driven one with coil-overs so I can't say how good they are.
Thanks for the detailed video bro
Well made, well told. As you said, it's a 20-year-old very fast car who needs some replacements. I have the same, and you will get some more trouble, but the engine and transmission is reliable. The rest can be done relatively easy... Enjoy the timeless looking car and the v8 sound...
Hey yah! We meet again
super reliable car!
You kind of forgot how the R170 SLK pays homage to the SL 300 with the power bulges on the hood, the retro dash gauges, the wheelbase and a couple other things I've forgotten, and also, how it was supercharged at a time others were struggling with turbochargers and the lag that existed at thst time. I've driven mine for several 4 plus hour stretches and got out feeling as refreshed as any other luxury car...and how it set the standard for others to be a hardtop convertible....it was built to a pricepoint, hence all the plastics, but overall, l think its an overlooked classic as its very popular in Europe..But thank you for the presentation.
Some of this info I did not know, all very good points, thank you for elaborating! It's definitely still a cozy cruiser if you need it to be. Once did a 10+ hour trip down to North Carolina and I had no complaints either!
I have an 05 clk500.. which is by Miles my favorite car I've ever owned. If you can't work on your own cars you should probably not buy one. But parts are actually cheap.. as long as you don't buy from the dealer. And tried to buy gray market. What cost so much is labor. Something that would take an hour on a Ford Mike takes six on a Mercedes. Because Fords are kind of slapped together with the bare minimum. These are extremely high-end cars with Ludocrous s numbers of features non luxury brands just don't have. So to replace the radio I have to remove the right side of the dash so that I can remove the center console so that I can remove the ashtray so that I can then remove the radio.. it is stuff like that
Patience is definitely needed for something like this, but in the end it really makes it worth it
,
Hopefully I can get one of these next year, gotta sell my motorcycles though 😅
Witch camera!?
This one is a Canon GL2
ive been looking for months and i straight up cant decide which one i would like. i also look at the 350 sl as its closer to price range
Recently bought an slk 55 r171 and love the size of it and the v8 sounds great. I already have an E coupe and an SL felt the same kind of car, bigger and more luxurious but less fun. I m super happy with the SLK
Love to hear it, i still cant imagine they put a big V8 in a car the size of the SLK so im sure it's loads of fun 😁😁
@@ShutterSpeed_auto yeah it moves....also eat rear tires for breakfast... expensive appetite loll
Good video, ill share
Thank you!
great video!
got an slk, went on vacation with it. from 1 side of europe to the other side of europe. Cheap, suprisingly chill on the highway, and fit more luggage then expected. Of course there are cars that get more millage for their gas but what can you expect from a supercharged convertible thats dirt cheap in europe. Most used cars are so expensive here, and the slk is a exception.
Agreed! It's a surprisingly good balance of fun and practicality
Raadt jij het aan om een SLK aan te schaffen, ivm onderhoudskosten etcetera? Het verbruik neem ik voor lief, maar ik ben een beetje huiverig als het gaat om onderhoud…
It costs a bit more than an average car, but you drive something that's so different than the shit you see today. FYI I have a E350 since 4 years, it costs me 817€/Y in standard maintenance (oil, filters, tyres...) and 1179€/Y in repair, including all 4 corners airmatic suspension. It's is about 190€ per month, doing the majority of the repair DIY.
For sure- DIY goes a long with with cost saving!
Have the R230 SL600. The SLK I find is way too small. Both great cars anyway 👍🏼 nice review
I agree! Tiny but still fun. Love that V12 as well!
Hi, great review! I didn't know that it had a motorized rear view mirror? Is that a standard or an extra feature? I don't know where the adjusting switch is? Thanx in advance, and keep up the good work. Also very happy for your medical situation!!
Thank you!! I want to say it's standard, the funny part is there is no control to directly adjust it, but if you have its position saved in the seat memory, then it will return to that position when you hit the button
@@ShutterSpeed_auto Ok, Thanx for telling me. 🙂
I have a 2003 sl500. The mirror adjustment is a round navigation button along with L&R buttons between the shifter and the roll bar and the roof buttons.
This not having 1m views ain't right, amazing quality man.
The editing, the cuts, and the jokes- 10/10 man. Love the breakdown and the content!
One of my fav cars! Great shots! The SC M113K are one of the best AMG engines.
exhaust sounds so good! I followed your modifications too and it’s the perfect balance of loudness and throaty
Agreed! none too disturbing when it doesn't need to be, but can get very loud when wanted. I do believe the X pipe adds a great tone
Such awesome news! Best wishes. Enjoy the drives and be safe.
Thank you!
Great video, really enjoyed it. You are a brave guy doing all your all repairs.
It's definitely a project to take on 😅
Even if you spent $8500 and get that stuff fixed, you still get a car that started at €108000 before taxes when it was new and will last if you look for it. I mean $8500 for a 20 y/o car = $425/y. That's not a lot, considering it maybe be a future classic.
yes if you're not mechanically minded one of these cars is not for you. My parents have one and it's money Pit
Great news, love your car as much my own 500❤
Thank you ♥
not applicable to AMG cars
Glade to hear dude🎉
Congratulations ❤
YES BRO!! ❤🎉
Abs, will break...
Clicked because of the title. I had stage 2 colon cancer that I had removed last year but currently undergoing chemo currently. I'm staying because of the SL55. Looks just like mine :) Great news on the cancer!!!!
Thank you! I'm told the chemo nowadays is much better than it was 20, or even 10 years ago. Good luck with your journey!
