Panasonic TR-003C: One of the smallest CRT televisions ever made
"The Panasonic TR-003C is a 3" Pop-Up TV with Cassette Tap Recorder. It operates on AC or a built in battery. Enjoy TV or record and playback radio on the built-in cassette recorder. Approximately 3 hour operation on a single charge and a 500-hour life span. IC, all solid state, electro-tuning. Complete with battery."
This unit is probably over 50 years old. While this one is in fairly rough shape, it is still functional! The CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) display is only 3", one of the smallest CRT televisions ever produced.
Today we take a look at this old treasure and then we take it apart.

Building a Retro CyberDeck Inspired by the TVA
มุมมอง 39K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This project was built using an old Project-or-View slide viewer that I found at a thrift store. I was inspired by it's resemblance to a tiny computer, and decided to turn it into a small, portable, Raspberry Pi powered computer (Pi Deck). The retro aesthetics of the Project-or-View also reminded me of Marvel's Time Variance Authority and the TV Show Loki. So I ran with that as a theme to furth...

DIY Articulating Arm Mount for a Phone or Camera
มุมมอง 156K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Filming and photographing projects is one of the real obstacles to sharing a creation. I've always found tripods and other setups to be cumbersome for filming on a workbench or desk. My solution was the offspring of a work lamp and a selfie stick, and has integrated phone charging with a micro USB cable. Built with minimal tools, this mount is compatible with any 1/4 in UMC attachment will work...

    Pretty cool! Love anything retro and giving new life to obsolete objects! Only thing that would have made it even better would have been to put a microdisplay in place of the slide. I guess that would have been impractical both in terms of space and display light levels? Maybe it's possible to remove the display backing and use the original light, or even a small projector?

    • @ExercisingIngenuity
      @ExercisingIngenuity 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Glad you enjoyed it! I originally tried using the tiny SPI display in this fashion, in place of the original slide. But it was just not bright enough. Some other people have also suggested using a tiny projector instead, which has the potential of working!

    • @98Zai
      @98Zai 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ExercisingIngenuity There is a guide on instructables for creating a transparent display by removing the backing, basically turning it into an animated slide! Maybe the image quality wouldn't be great, but will likely look pretty cool :P I'm guessing the original lamp should be bright enough, otherwise there are LED lamps these days that are much brighter. Anyways, your finished project is lovely, good job!

    Great video. I disassembled my 1570 label maker and repaired, but when I was putting back together I noticed a spring fell out and I don't know where it goes. It is a different spring than the two you have shown in your video. about 2 inches long and solid wire. Do you know where it goes?

      This is always a difficult quandary for me when working with old devices. Restore, or reuse? Both have their merits in my mind. That's part of why I wanted to document this device in a video, to at least appreciate it and preserve a part of it before repurposing it.

      You've saved me stating the same thing... Although maybe I should have made standalone comment so the point is being made more strongly. It prints labels with the style. Slow. With only 1 font available. But the letters are protruding and look so 60s! This is exactly what I want.

    Not cutting through the label + tape is the whole idea. It makes peeling the tape off the label *much* easier. My own Dymo labeller (which I bought in approx. the late 1970s and I still use) does exactly the same.

    • @ExercisingIngenuity
      @ExercisingIngenuity 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My understanding is that one blade cuts completely through, the other cuts partly through. As you said it makes it much easier to remove the backing. On this dymo neither blade cut completely through, so you could not disconnect the label from the tape inside the label maker. Amazing you still have one from the 70s!
