"Blue Peter" Thunders Through Acton Bridge 20/11/2024
On its first public passenger tour since refurbishment, the stunningly restored 60532 "Blue Peter" thunders through Acton Bridge on the home stretch towards Crewe. This is where the loco would be swapped out for another that would take the tour the rest of the way. Also seen are a pair of 90s heading for Crewe Basford Hall.

A random(ish) assortment of footage over the last week, most of which revolves around my recent holiday to Edinburgh. Of particular interest in this compilation is 47712 (masqueraded as 709/711) thrashing out of Edinburgh which sounded fantastic! Other sights of interest was the Rail Adventure HSTs and MK1s at Kingsknowe and the new DRS/Tesco Trafford Park service, seen at Manchester Piccadilly...
HELLFIRE East Lancashire Railway Autumn Diesel Gala 2024 13/09/2024

An awesome day out to the East Lancashire Railway for their Autumn diesel event. The gala's locomotive roster mostly featured the home fleet (plus 26007) with some rare track moves offered throughout the day. I spent the day doing a mixture of bashing and watching from some of the beautifully restored stations along the route. Personal highlights include: 45108 thrash; 26007/37109 thrashing thr...

A fantastic day out on the LSL InterCity "Sugar Loaf & Stormy Push Pull" Railtour. Awesome traction in the form of 37409 and 37521 (D6817), initially operated in top'n'tail, before double heading the return journey. Beautiful scenery on the outbound journey with some hellfire Lickey action on the return. Chapters: 00:00 = Outbound trip 07:08 = Return trip Socials Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/1...

A couple of clips from Saturday 31st August and Tuesday 3rd September 2024 for some thrash from two of my favourite diesel loco classes - the Class 40s and 70s. First up is some clips from 31/08 at Acton Bridge with Andania thrashing through and Braunton passing light soon after. Next up is 70009 on hire to Colas thrashing through Frodsham with the obligatory 6J37 Carlisle to Chirk logs on 03/0...

Great to see this pair back in a vintage livery after appearing in the GBRf branding for the last few years. Here, they are seen charging through Acton Bridge at speed, heading for Aberdeen. Also included is a couple of freights including a RARE appearance of a Colas Class 66 on the empty logs, and a DRS Class 68 with the throttle wide open. For the first time, I visited the NYMR a short while ago and here's some footage of 31466 thrashing up the steep gradients between Grosmont/Goathland and Levisham/Goathland. The loco was hauling 4 MK1s so not the heaviest load but we still get to hear the taps open, especially after leaving Levisham! I paid a visit to the Strathspey Railway during a recent holiday to Scotland. This was luckily on a Friday when the railway was running diesel services during one of their Friday diesel running days. This day, the resident Class 31, D5862 was the loco of choice, providing some excellent thrash! Would thoroughly recommend a visit to the railway! DB Class 60s: Down and Out?
มุมมอง 13K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Class 60s are one of the most powerful freight locomotives to operate in the UK, exceeding the capabilities of locomotives like the class 66 in terms of tractive effort. However, these locomotives have now been withdrawn by their primary operator to be replaced by modified class 66s. In this video, we will explore why this may be the case. Many thanks, once again, for watching this new form...

Wish theyd put them and the CAF sets on southwestern exeter-waterloo instead of the 159's they run up and down it might make it a nicer journey
Personally, I've found the super sprinters to be more comfortable than the MK5s though of course these things are preference based. Those super sprinters do seem to be looking a bit knackered now
@railquest in honestly the turbos are much comfier to me but they're ageing, noisy, desperately need a turn on the tyres and basic. First class seats on the turbos are like royal armchairs lol. Std seating on them is better than first class on most new sets (if they even retained 1st class)
Very nice catches!
Many thanks!
Now that’s nice! Steam always looks better in the cold!
@@iskra1234 Indeed! Always worth getting freezing in the process 😅
Looks like a great day to be train spotting. Great video 👍
Thanks! Indeed it was
I see no-one has mentioned that the class 60 has a 4-stroke engine compared to the 2-stroke on the 66. The 4-stroke generally has superior fuel efficiency and has a cleaner exhaust, and a longer service life. The 2-stroke is cheaper and has a better power-to-weight. The 60 creep control was said to be to a higher spec than the 66 because it worked down to zero speed compared to 5mph on the 66. You could put a 60 against the buffers and leave it on creep all day (rail might get a bit worn though). Ex Brush engineer, I was proud of what the company achieved in a very short time with a lot of contract draughtsmen.
Really interesting info, thanks!
That was mighty unlucky I'm sure it's happened to us all at some point

Damn over half life expired :( Big Cats live to be 13-17 years old.
I drove Western Champion on the SVR and loved every minute on it but a Class 47 is also on my bucket list and i will check out the Experience courses on this Railway.
@@octopus680 Ooo fantastic, I bet Western Champion was a cracking loco to drive! Experiences for that loco (and any western for that matter) seem to be the fastest selling
@@railquest Yes a main line registed Western running on both engines! -what more could anyone want 👌
Fantastic video mate, this was a great gala and looks like you made a great day out of it. My main aim going into the gala was to see the Teddy Bear because it had evaded me for the last few ELR galas, but unfortunately it ended up being replaced by D5054 on the Saturday so it's still evading me. It was a great day nevertheless, the highlight for me had to be seeing the 56 back in action
Many thanks! Yes the teddy bear was fantastic - really kicked off my interest in the class 14s, shame to hear it wasn't able to attend on Saturdays. Oh well, its quite a frequent runner so hopefully it'll have a normal weekend running day soon
I feel the MK5s are more likely to end up with Chiltern to place the older MK3s, that is what makes the most sense for me anyways.
@@bongman123 that seems to be what is the current intentions though given they're in fixed sets of 5 carriages, I'm not sure how Chiltern intend to replace 6 MK3s with 5 MK5s - that's quite a drop in capacity
It's annoying, it's loud, it's beautiful and I love it.
How does the Midland Pullman HST get away without a yellow warning panel🤔
@@stokes8762 I believe it's something to do with the Pullman having sufficiently bright headlights
@@railquest Oh right, thanks.
Having seen them in Fife circle service, yes they are loud! Scotrail should have opted for them instead of the worn out, unreliable HSTs for their IC7 services.
@@MrScootmcg for sure! I do miss them operating on those services.
Top video, thanks for sharing .......

Happened to be there on the Saturday and neither the 35 or D9531 were running. Missed out on the 50 as well but a very good day out. Lovely footage.
@@adamreynolds2372 that's a shame, they seemed in fine form on Friday. Thanks!
DRS should just scrap there 66’s.
Can’t beat diesel locomotives.
Mark 5 are literally a disgrace to the Mark name.
Regulations are just stupid.
Excellent - you really have captured the day, a very enjoyable day too.
Many thanks! Indeed a great day - hats off to the ELR volunteers!
Superb video - really enjoyed watching it.
@@railwayscene many thanks!
Brilliant footage. I should have gone to Gloucester to see it pass, but it was one that got away! So was there some allowance for you to film the lickey at the window?
Thanks! Unlucky with Gloucester for yourself - I did notice there seemed to be barely anyone filming there when we passed. As for the filming at the window, no explicit permission was needed or anything - the LSL chaps were OK with people filming as long as cameras/bodies were kept fully in the train and the windows were up most of the way😁. There were quite a number of us in the vestibules for the climb
Very nice mate, I saw the 40 and Braunton at Preston earlier that morning. Acton Bridge was certainly a fair bit quiter than it was at Preston! Catching 70009 on the logs was great as well, I believe the first time it's been on the logs since it went on hire to Colas?
@@theretrocrowe thanks! Yes Preston always seems really busy with spotters so long as a rail tour is due, not as busy as Crewe forever is mind you. I think 70009 had already done the logs for the two/three days prior to me seeing it but I can concur that this is probs the first time its been rotated onto the logs - now all we need is for 59003 to do it!
With some members of the class been stored maybe the likes of GBRF could look at these as alternatives to some of the aging class 66 locomotives?
Superb Footage Mate Brilliant Could see me when u departed Crewe 👍
@@37418 many thanks! Sounded like a great departure from Crewe in your video!
@railquest No Probs Yeah it Sure was Mate 👍👍
Absolutely fantastic mate, 409 was absolutely hellfire all day. That thrash up the Lickey was gorgeous, as was the climb up to Sugar Loaf that I caught. LSL certainly picked a great route, 37s going up the banks at Llangynllo, Sugar Loaf and the Lickey is certainly a great intinerary
Thanks! Yepp was a fantastic one on all fronts!
Great video mate, I am a rail spotter, I love those class 68,88 locomotives, I don’t understand why they are going for storage, they are very modern locos in the uk. 😐🤔
@@charliethetrainspotter4963 Thanks! Yes they are fantastic locos and a wasted opportunity to send some of them for storage. Thankfully, only half the fleet will be sent to storage
You missed out them being used on services in Norfolk for a couple of years
Good spot! I think I also miss out them working on the Cumbrian Coast as well. Tbf, I don't necessarily think both of these were a fundamental part of their history - simply some workings that they did for a while
@@railquest the anglia workings were very much part of their history as they were the first passenger workings of the Class thet were worked by DRS drivers on a daily basis
Excellent Mate 👍
@@37418 thanks!
GOOD RIDDANCE awful locos.
Brilliant video mate, I saw most of these moves at Preston. The driver of the 50s fully opened them up right next to where I was stood, probably the loudest thrash I've heard on the mainline for quite some time. Those logs were great too, rare to see an empty log train in daylight and rare to see a Colas shed up north. Them empty log wagons create a hell of a lot of turbulence, it couldn't've been going more than 40mph, and I was behind the yellow line, and it still blew my hat off my head!
Many thanks! Lucky you with the thrash - that pair of 50s do seem to take the roof off wherever they go. Indeed, those log wagons create wind tunnels behind them. Bizarrely, I had worse experiences with container wagons though I suppose given those log wagons only get up to 60mph, they aren't quite as turbulent as containers at full speed.
Excellent capture of the 50s 👍
Many thanks!
