Stump House Trail, SC. Frozen Caves and Frozen Bats
มุมมอง 307ปีที่แล้ว
This was during a record setting cold front that moved through the area. The Blue Ridge Railroad Trail or Stump House Trail as some others call it, is a 5 mile (total in and out) hike along an old railroad track that was indefinitely canceled when the Civil War started. This trail is a pretty easy hike but has some incredible tunnels and caves to explore.

This one started out great! By the end I had to lay down on the trail every few minutes to keep from puking. Running out of water did not help the situation. I wanted to do a complete gear comparison, but my mic failed so all the audio was lost and then I got sick.

Spent the day exploring Gorges State Park just across the SC border. Chased a few waterfalls including Turtleback falls and the upper White Water Falls. Also spent some time reflecting on why it is we hike and what we get out of it.

Don’t understand how this man’s gas mileage/MPG is so bad 😂. I have two and both average 16-18mpg depending on driving and weather. 2005 & 2009 GX470
Mine gets 19-20mpg. Not towing. My problem is cold start high idle. It might take 5min. for the RPM to get below 1K. No lose of power, so I don't think it is an intake leak. I'm wondering if the VVT-i assembly is scarred from previous owner not letting engine warm up a little before moving.
Did you lift it?
Nope, but I did just put new seats in and got it painted. I’m going to make another video with all the changes since this one.
About the window problem. Check your manual. If you disconnect the car battery you have to reprogram the drivers cluster to control the other windows again.
Rode jeeps and motorcycles all over them mountains back in the 70s before the trails were blocked off. Lake Jocassee was being built at that time.
I just purchased a 2009 GX470 last month. Thank you for sharing the video about your GX470. About your window controls, maybe also your moonroof control, too, you may just need to reset (normalize) after the battery change or disconnection.
Teton
I call shenanigans on your statements
So the weather guys were right 😂.
The editing in this video is actually great. That mickey mouse voice about getting stuff in and out constantly was pretty LOL
I tow mine with a Volt
Great idea.
You ain't finding Smoky cuz you ain't in the Smoky Mountains!
16:49 You can thank Bye-Duh-Naw-Mix for that…
I'm late to the party here but man that tent looks slick. I'm going to have to look into it more. Those colors look like theyd do good blocking out some daylight. I'll have to do some digging into it.
For the power windows, you have to reprogram them for the driver's side window switch panel. Theres a video on TH-cam for this. My 2008 had the same issue. Finds out if you disconnect the battery, you have to reprogram all the window switches.
I never like but you got me lol
Glad I was watching instead of just listening at 11:36 😂
I was thinking the same😂😂
The prices on the repair parts were very reasonable. I am surprised on how low the mpg is on Mr. Adventure's GX470. 9 mpg is even worse than my brother-in-law's 2008 Tundra with got 12 mpg. We have a GX460 and get around 17 mpg daily driving and our worst was in the 15s. We got 4 feet of snow a few weeks ago and our GX460 with Blizzak snow tires acted like it was nothing.
You’re only getting 17 mpg in a GX460? I’m getting 18.5 mpg in a GX470. Must have a lead foot. 😉
@@jameshansen8931 We get 19 mpg in the Summer.
That’s a sloppy setup. Every tent has to be dialed in, every single time, period. Doesn’t matter if it’s free standing. Doesn’t matter if it’s single wall or double wall. What matters is proper tensioning with minimal sags and wrinkles. Properly dialed in, it should look tighter than a guitar string but without putting too much stress on the material. Doesn’t matter if you use a $500 tent or a $5 tarp, DIAL-IT-IN! It’s worth the extra 2-5 minutes it takes to make adjustments. I use a tent that’s heavier than most. But it also has a wider range of adjustments so I can adapt to changing seasons and conditions. I’ve used it at 103F and I’ve used it at -6F. Same tent, same sleeping bag, same pad, my gear never changes, only how I use it changes. Before I fault a piece of gear I first ask myself, “What am I doing wrong here?”. Sometimes it is the gear. But more often than not it’s improper use of the gear. And that’s what I think happened here…,
I was offered a 2017 tundra for my 05 GX, but i didnt go for it, i do like the tundra though good trucks.
If your biggest concern is gas mileage then why the heck didn’t you just buy a Prius then? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How long was the hike up to table rock? It looks like the public parking is closed from Jan-April. Is there another spot to get up there or park?
Not long from the parking area. Maybe an hour, probably less because we were goofing off. Typically I camp on the opposite side of the gorge along old hwy 105. The Table Rock side didn't seem to have any camping along the roads or places you could pull off. The only spot was the parking lot at the top. At least that I saw. I haven't spent that much time on that side of the gorge.
If people understood how engine timing works, then they would run premium all the time
..or mid grade at least.
All true
Except I’m not putting premium in mine 😂
You really did describe it the best though.. “it’s a super reliable engine but will all the parts around it keep up with it”.. has been my exact experience.. nickel and dime you
I already own a 07 GX 470 and I was thinking about buying a 2023 Tacoma crew cab 4 x 2. Yeah so why beat up a new car.
Sold me when you said gazzelle tent. Gonna by a gazelle. Thanks.
I’m from Costa Rica this Lexus engine is exactly like the most reliable car ever made (TOYOTA PRADO) which maybe they have it in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 but not in the US. Super reliable and unbreakable car. It can possibly reach the 600,000 miles ! I love reliable cars!
Anyone know what the brand name is of the android screen?
lol who is bringing clamps into the back country
Looks awesome!
My husband and I loved our Nobo. We did not have the toy hauler door so we had plenty of storage in that 10.6. I am in my 60's so it was time for a TT with a bathroom. Climbing down from the rooftop tent was not ideal during the middle of the night. I loved that tent and miss it terribly! Yes, we could have slept "downstairs" but we only did that when it rained! I rate it a 10.6!!
I have owned two GX 470 and never had one serious problem. Just bought new 460
I did the same thing, sold my 2017 for a nice profit and got rid of payments while getting a gx470 with 140k paid for!
Dude …. Great video. Laughing my ass off. So true. Thanks
Nice ride and yes, it is worth the buy. Actually, the Lexus GX is basically a Toyota 4Runner with a V8 and belles and whistles. I have a 05’ Lexus GX470 with 178k miles and also a 97’ Toyota 4Runner with 289k miles and a 2008 Lexus RX350. Love them all, but the Lexus is definitely my favorite. ☺️
If if doesn't work for one if may work for another. I have the trekology and love it For more loft just put some clothing between the pad and pillow
Man i wish you lived down the street from me lol
For the windows, you just need to reset/reprogram the windows from each window/door by pressing down to roll down the window, hold for 5 seconds, then lift up to roll up the window, and hold up for 5 seconds.. then repeat roll down windows again.. hold for 5 seconds.. then lift up windows again.. hold for 5 seconds.. done
How much should I look expect to pay for redoing my seats completely? My front seats are basically done but my back seats are ok and my 3rd row seats are basically brand new lol. Past owner never used them I never used them.
Just for the two front seat bottoms (Leather), around $450 to $750
How to reset your power windows. th-cam.com/video/9TflPyPVTao/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IAh7Zo8BE1s2PZJR
Must likely is nothing wrong with the power windows. If you disconnect the car battery for repairs, you’ll have to reset the power windows if the SUV. It’s very easy, just check a TH-cam tutorial how to do it.
I love this indestructible 4.7 man, i got my dads 04 GX with 142Kmiles and I’ve literally just did everything you talked about. Regretfully, I wish i found u earlier, Bc i bit the bullet and took it to our local shop to do front axel due to my passenger side boot, torn to shirt and making a mess ,, driver side had a lil crack in it, but wasn’t leaking as much. Radiator wasn’t too bad to do yourself, but water pump , yea that’s what nightmares are made of. If you don’t mind me asking, what spacers did you go with and were they hubcentric? Love the vids , very informative. Appreciate it . Any work on the Marc levinson amp by chance? Mine works for first 5- 10min and then shorts out? It could be worst lol my dad was original owner and drove this amazing machine off the lot in 03 and all he ever did to it(besides original maintenance every 4-5k) was run only 91 and get new set of tires, brakes, rotors and calipers lol gotta love it. It’s been my 3rd year with her and i get all the fun stuff, but I’d still take this any day over these newly computer ran vehicles,
Beautiful lake!
They don't require premium fuel. It has the same motor as the 4runner, Sequoia and Tundra, and none of them require it. They recommend so that the buyer feels special.
Are you ever wrong.

Side note, these will run just fine without premium
Indeed, seemingly no benefit to premium with it
what's your take on the gx550?
I like the look better then the 460. Not to sure about the motor. Slapping turbos on everything seems to be the work around for meeting stricter emissions.
Despite the title of this video stating it's a review of the specific tent shown, this isn't a review of anything. It's just him talking about different things he bought.
Yup, that's my review. I don't get paid for this stuff. I'm just a dude sharing my thoughts to hopefully help someone else out. I don't have some criteria I am trying to meet. Thanks for the comment!!
Never put premium gas in that truck. I've always put regular gas and yes you're right she's an alcoholic but she runs fine on regular and the both burn the same premium gas is for v10 and higher engines not naturally aspirated v8s smh
Lol at the number of cylinders having anything to do with the type of gas it takes 😂😂
Lol
@@Tokarev6485 So it's painfully obvious y'all have no idea what HIGH COMBUSTION engines are!? 🤦🏽♂️. I love when ppl challenge and never produce any facts to back up their claim smfh
SMH sorry didn’t realise v10s were supercharged. My bad
@sds4810 you mean high compression not combustion. I only use midgrade 89 octane and it runs fine.
My seats still look new and have zero cracks or rips! The only thing is now obsolete is the damn navigable system. But I use my phone for that anyways 🤷🏽♂️
