Federal Signal 2001-130 | Short Blast | Madison, AL

Originally I set my eyes on a 2nd gen 2001, but ended up getting the parks confused and ended up recording a 2001-130. Nonetheless, the thing was loud besides pitch issues, plus the echoes were amazing. This replaced a 4th gen 2001-SRN and it wasn't too long ago, this siren could've been installed brand new. Streetview doesn't have a date between 2021 and 2013 which is honestly shocking because Madison and Huntsville are mostly well documented. Either way it was a good replacement but not needed for a SRN.
I took my months off on recording stuff in Madison or Huntsville for that matter since Madison County is a reliable tester as-well as the trio counties that aren't too far from it test reliably too on the same day. You can hear some of the other 2001's that are near it if you have a keen ear. I am mostly confident the 2001 you hear is the one near Palmer Park. The place is great to find recording spots at and it's a pretty open field that's slightly elevated.
Sirens in Madison County are controlled by Huntsville-Madison County EMA. All sirens within the area are tested on the first Wednesday of every month at Noon, weather permitting.

มุมมอง 3K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Originally Recorded: 10/2/24 © 2024 WSAL (Request for re-use) After my first two of 4 months of tests either failed or didn't make it on time, I finally got to record something after that long. This one was a bit of a short on time decision as I was headed to another 508 inside of some foliage but a train was in the way, so I had to find something and find something fast. 5 miles away from this...

Originally Recorded: 6/5/24 © 2024 WSAL (Request for re-use) About time I uploaded something again, with April & May being both duds due to severe weather and other complicated stuff unrelated to recording sirens, I couldn't record for about 2 months. As usual, I tried finding something semi-close to me and had a nice shot to it, so I tried Falkville since I pass it at least once a month and al...

Originally Recorded: 3/6/24 © 2024 WSAL (Request for re-use) As I was looking around on streetview, I discovered this already discovered 2906 in Belle Mina. I looked around to see where the best recording area would be for the siren and it just looked so sketchy. Safe to say it wasn't really that sketchy and you can't really judge a town by it's look. Plus, I wasn't really bothered out there. S...

Originally Recorded: 2/7/24 © 2024 WSAL (Request for re-use) Finally the second siren I recorded from last months test, which was pretty nice overall. First off, this Model 2 is in really REALLY close proximity to a 2001-130 about .4 miles away? Not sure just guessing the distance, however I wasn't surprised it was sick, as many Model 2's from the FS era have shown to have hindering quality in ...

Originally Recorded: 2/7/24 © 2024 WSAL (Request for re-use) So making my plans for February I went looking at the Alabama map for sirens to record. There's not much variety until I went further south hoping for a new siren to record, and found this undocumented Vortex, thought to be either a 4004 or a Vortex since streetview wasn't covered in that area. I had to make sure that the siren was wi...

Originally Recorded: 12/6/23 © 2024 WSAL (Request for re-use) After a much needed hiatus, I am back! I have been going around getting some pictures, and mostly documenting some undocumented sirens around my area, as well as scheduling ne...

Originally Recorded: 11/1/23 © 2023 WSAL (Request for re-use) I was attempting to get this unrecorded Vortex R4 recorded until it died on me, which it struck an idea, why not make a siren ambience? Besides all the wind in the audio some parts were usable and some weren't, understandably. But, it was surprising being able to hear ALL of the 3 sirens in Moulton, and sucks that the Vortex didn't g...

Originally Recorded: 10/4/23 © 2023 WSAL (Request for re-use) Yeah another 508, I get it, I don't really have much of a choice since I can't make it to Birmingham in time since I'd get stuck in traffic, and there's over 100 508's here, however, the raspiness you're hearing is actually coming from the siren and not the audio from my camera. Eventually I'll have re-recorded some of these sirens, ...

Originally Recorded: 10/4/23 © 2023 WSAL (Request for re-use) I finally could make it over here to Huntsville again to get a 2001 recorded, the siren was a bit overwhelming considering it kind of gave me a headache on how high the pitch was since it was on a rectifier, punchy nonetheless. Initially before the start of the test my 2nd camera died, which sucked, but luckily it did because the qua...

The system went off about a minute late, and I thought it was just gonna be a no testing date, but I'm surprised they tested, and in...

Originally Recorded: 8/2/23 © 2023 WSAL (Request for re-use) After recording the 508, I decided to finally head on over north-east to record a Sentry, after initially deciding on a 2001 but, the 2001 I went to was dead/broken, and I didn't know until after the test, which was a save thankfully. I do plan on getting some other videos recorded around there, but that's for next month. Also, I'm no...

Originally Recorded: 8/2/23 © 2023 WSAL (Request for re-use) Ah yes, something other than Decatur for once, and finally I have a slightly maintained schedule (I hope). I was re-watching the video and swear this 508 had a pitch flux at the start, but other than that, enjoy! Northwest Alabama is infested with 508s except for Florence and anything past Madison, hence why I can't really get much va...

Originally Recorded: 7/5/23 © 2023 WSAL (Request for re-use) So I figured on re-recording the Vortex a few weeks ago and getting it without having a weird shadow and being backlit, but since I was so far away the centering on it (since I have a 300mm lens) wasn't looking right and I don't want to push my camera scaling up in the editing software, but other then that two alerts and two silent te...
Poor 130! I wanna see this
I like the shots there! Motor sounds like it struggling a bit.
si old now for siren
THAT THING HAS STUFF ON THR BACK! (Cleans up siren)
Oh god, The motor doesn't sound all good. Probably a AMDM Motors. Those motors are notorious to have sticky brushes.
You're probably right, as far as I can tell this is an AC only 130
@@wsal01 There's only like three to four sirens in the county with batteries outside of Redstone Arsenal, so almost certainly.
Great video! Wonder if it's possible that was the one that was in Huntsville that was replaced within the past few years due to the chopper motor dying?
It was likely that it was this considering the SRN was up until about 6 years ago, not sure on the exact date it got replaced
@@wsal01 If it was replaced long enough ago, then it was probably new.
Wow, that one's crusty! Almost as bad as that 2001-SRNB I saw at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia.
Yeah haha, all of our sirens are mostly like this besides the Whelens
Awesome video! Really enjoyed watching this 🔊😁
Thanks!
@@wsal01 no problem! 😁
That is LOW
promo sm
why is it rotating?
It isn't, the screen is just spinning around due to vibrations and years of getting loose
I know I've commented here before, but I just gotta say this is probably the meanest sounding 2800 I've ever heard!
Seriously! There's great acoustics here; especially with an open field right next to it to the right
HOT
This is one of the browns ferry nuclear sirens. This one I believe replaced a thunderbolt. All of the sirens are owned by the federal government
Nice video, always like to record a whelen every now and then
Nice test!
Thank you!
The border of Limestone and Madison Counties is a few miles to the east over at the appropriately-named County Line Road (Exit 7 on I-565).
Im aware, what I meant by the border is that it's close to Madison county's border
Weird how you couldnt hear a 508 from this one. You can normally hear one at the Greenbriar vortex
When you find DSRX100 at Walmart
this might be dsrx 🙏🙏🙏
whaddup roflcopter go soisoisoisoi
Bro is redneck dsrx 💀
This one replaced a single phase thunder beam.
The plan to replace everything in the county unfortunately did fall through. The county was looking at Whelen's for a while, since the activation system in the Whelan hardware normally interface is quite well and there are multiple systems like it like in Columbus Georgia as well as Houston County Georgia. The guy who is in charge of that particular project I believe is now our congressman so it's been put on the back burner. Thunder beams are getting replaced as they fail
These all just had cabinet replacements. I have the one that was at brewer high school
After I recorded this? I saw how faded the sticker was on the cabinet when I was taking some pictures for the thumbnail
@@wsal01This one appears to be running a 2020. It might be an exception. All the ones I've seen including the one that Brewer high School were all VLC 864s.
I know that the county had plans at some point to replace it's 2001s and i assume any remaining Thunderbeams. I wonder if they plan on replacing these as well.
As far as I know everything in the county is getting replaced as soon as it gives or breaks, these might be here for years before they get a 3v8 in their place, but as of right now Huntsville-Madison has had that plan fall through.
hot siren very
That main shot is absolutely rad omfg, very awesome video!
Thank you!

Sorry if I’m asking for to much, how did you make the map?

stupid 2001 trying to be T-135 haha
Your editing is absolutely S tier
Thank you!
This is a 20v2t dual tone
You sure? It hit the same pitch once up to full speed
@@wsal01 it's two different pitches an octave apart from each other. There's only one single tone 20 HP sentry in Madison county, at the village of Providence
@@seanjuth Ah okay
Nice video! What’s the siren used for.
Tornadoes, nuclear meltdown (since this is a county included in Browns Ferry evacuation radius), and essentially anything that can cause severe weather capable of producing natural disasters.
Sound like, Yelping Ambulance
Surprised they don't use "Attention" on the pre-recorded messages.
I honestly wasn't even expecting a message, whoop at that, I was expecting what Morgan county does on their Whelens.
"ATTENTION..." with a long pause would sound insane
0:31 You can see the screen vibrating and spinning in the 3rd cell.
I dont think thats a good thing to be happening
@@u238productions its normal.
@@u238productionsIt's a normal thing on 2800's, it doesn't affect performance but it affects the way it sounds up close
that's eerily close to the ground
It's about a 24ft pole
@@wsal01good god. I find low mount + voice message with echo eerie
Interesting shot
Couldn't set up anywhere else lol, I shot from the Signalink parking lot with a flag in the way so I couldn't center it
Omg I love this so much
Morgan County isn't maintained by West Shore Services. It's maintained by DEC (Decatur Electronics Communications) Same with Limestone. But, TVA is maintained by West Shore Services.
That was what I meant, let me fix that
