Sharing my New England adventures.
Splitboarding Tuckerman Ravine and Little Headwall 2024
First time back at Tuck's after falling last year. I hiked half way up Right Gully and decided to call it there due to snow conditions. Also my first time using my splitboard in the backcountry.

Snowboarding Tuckerman's Ravine (Bad Crash)
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
My first time snowboarding Tuckerman's Ravine. Failed the second self-arrest attempt due to improper grip of the axe. Luckily made it out with just a couple scratches.

Snowboarding blue job mountain in New Hampshire for the first time with my dog.
There was another dude at the bottom
You do NOT want to fall at Tucks!!!
Ur holding the axe wrong…. Thats why it got ripped put ur hands, dont buy the equipment if ur not gonna use it right
How will you learn to use the equipment if you don't buy it?? lmao
Bravo! At 30 seconds into your video you showed us the "Boot Drag" potential and then (like a good Hitchcock film) we were in suspense....waiting for the inevitable and then........no axe? You came very close to disaster but Tuckerman was a merciful teacher to you that day (because you have balls of steel)! (Does wearing a helmet give one a false sense of safety?)
No, and if wearing a helmet makes your overestimate your abilities, its time for some lessons.
WTF- None of the terrain looked favorable for riding. Tons of exposed rocks, shiny ice and shrubbery. I am astonished at the attempt let alone you were able to get up from that.
Welcome to the east coast lol
literally just described east coast skiing HAHAH
Is it wrong that the whole time i'm thinking "typical east coast ski resort?" 😂
It’s Tuckerman
What was the date you were up there? I’m gonna hit the ravine soon. Just curious what you found was the “ideal” time
When the weather and avalanche forecast align. That is the ideal time to go.
Bravo dude gets up retrieves his ax straps in and rides down...
U have to hike for every run an chute im going this may
I like how you bought a tool and clearly don’t know how to use it…bravo!!!
I like how he knows how to use a phone and a camera though.
What time of year was thiz?
well that escalated quickly. stay standing much easier.
Lesson: don’t hike a mountain then fall down it
When you lose the ice axe😂
I accepted my fate
@@mac1saac I still respect the send🤘
Thanks for posting this. Too many people think Tuckerman’s is like the black diamond trail at their local ski area until they stand below the headwall and its boiler plate ice top to bottom. I’ve skied most extreme courses on the pro circuit and this place gives chills. Most people would never post their falls yet you were man enough to do so. You may have saved someone’s life. Thanks
Yeah this was my first time trying it and it was a real eye opener.
Are you a pro now since used that epic turn footy on your goprogohome
Man that looks like straight ice you're trying to snowboard on! 😂
welcome to the east coast
It was a bit crusty that day for sure!
oh my gosh, are you okay? the snow looked kind of hard
just a few scratches
That “snow” looked like ice rofl welcome to the Ice Coast!
I thought for sure he was dead!
I thought I was too lol
@@mac1saac Woman died a few months ago here. Fell 600 ft and hit the rocks at the bottom. Was this Right Gully?
@@GetUpTheMountains yes it was
Might be wrong, but looks like you got some boot drag, which caused the slide outs. I started riding wide boards for this exact reason, with 10.5 boots. It's important to be able to rely on your edges.
That was defintley a factor. I was using a gnu headspace which has way too much play for that kind of terrain which also played a part in losing my edge. Plan on getting a sturdy wide board next year!
Man wrong way to hold the axe for a self arrest experience iz key
And should he have a wrist strap on the axe so he doesn't lose it?
No
@@andyrobinson339 no, ideally if you loose grip on the axe, you want it away from you, not spinning on the end of a strap! on his case, he was mainly holding the shaft of the axe, im actually surprised he manage to hold on the axe on the first self arrest! the best way is to hold the handle (top part of the T like you would hold a cane)
Awesome dude, keep shredding!
Looked like pretty firm can’t fall type conditions. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah definitely, learned my lesson for sure.
