Lake Powell located in the beautiful Glen Canyon National Recreation Area close to the southern border of Utah presented us with the opportunity to kayak out to the large monolith called "Lone Rock." Past high water mark on Lone Rock gave an eerie sense of just how dramatic the drop in water levels have been on the Colorado River. We were able to extend our paddling beyond Lone Rock and into narrow backwater areas on the east portion of Lake Powell. Past visits here did not allow us to utilize our kayaks due to water levels being too low. This was a rare opportunity to explore areas not easily accessible at Lake Powell.
