The recent name change triggered me to have another look at the Fedora Immutable distros also known as Atomic. I can imagine this is quite an abstract concept to grasp for a lot of people and that's why I explained the concept and also show you how it works by providing examples. Here are some helpful resources: Article on the namechange in Fedora Magazine: fedoramagazine.org/introducing-fedora...

I swear linux users have the worst music taste on earth
pywal16 has changed some since, consider looking at it again.
9:21 When I run the "ln -s ~/git/dotfiles/config/i3/config ~/.config/i3/config" command it says "ln: failed to create symbolic link '/home/user/.config/i3/config': File exists What do I do? EDIT: At 10:51 when I log out and log back in, the bottom bar is gone and polybar doesn't start automatically
1. You can overwrite this error by using the force (-f) option. 2. difficult to say since I cannot see your code on your machine. Can you launch the example bar 'polybar example' ?
I want to make a local self hosting cloud gaming with this. Can I install any linux apps to it like moonlight? can't try it yet cause I still lack of resources. People around me wants to play games but have no budget to buy gaming pc so I might make a business out of this by allowing other to rent my pc through their phone browser and play whatever games they want. Btw you teach better too. I learned a lot thanks!
Hi LeoNux, I don't think webtop is the right approach for game streaming. But on the other hand, I'm no expert in setting up a game streaming service. Just read up a little bit.. the games on whales project seems like an interesting approach. Thanks for your comment. Good luck with your endeavour!
How do you install kmv as tool box or layer?
Do you mean kvm? Haven't tried it tbh since, if you use toolbox there should be no need to use kvm. Toolbox enables you to use images and run it as container natively. Hope that helps.
@@testertech Yes I meant KVM with virt manager. Thanks I'll look into how to use toolbox and images.
I liked the video and just subscribed, but sometimes you go too fast IMO. When you run a command that shows output (like all these Neofetch replacements), it would be better to let the viewer see it for a few seconds before moving on. Either way, I look forward to your next video.
@code8986 hi, thanks for the sub and the tip for improvement. Appreciate it!
@@testertech 👍
Err...... I am getting this issue on this video that intends to help us solve this issue. =__=
I can certainly see the irony in that. You could use the Flatpak version of Chromium as temporary circumvention, I've just tested that on a fresh install and that has the codecs built in. Alternatively, check the article as mentioned in the description.
it seems the method in this video at 37:21 no longer works... kde partition doesn't show the window to type password as 37:52.... I don't know what to do... In addition is the percentage mark on the left of bottom bar is battery status? I have a battery status on the left of volume bar on top right, but this bottom left bar is stuck at 100% and I am not sure what it is...
Hi @AmeMori35 I see... Haven't touched i3 in a while now to be honest. Let me see if I can replicate your issue. Not sure if I can do something about the battery percentage, that's difficult to help debug without seeing your code.
@@testertech sorry for late response, and thank you for your time and dedication to old video! I managed that it was the font issue to indicate the storage and battery bar on polybar. After a few configuration it fixed. About the kde partition/gparted I decided to run it on terminal with sudo command because I don't use the partition function often. But thank you!
Super useful, thank you. Exactly what i was looking for
Good to hear that!
Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
If I access port 80, a prompt asks for a username and password, but the provided credentials do not work. When I use port 4343 instead, I receive a 403 error. Any thoughts? I am on Windows 11, but I have same problem with WSL
Hi I'm not sure by your description what the issue is but if you're looking for help (if the problem persists) the best would be to create an issue at the kiwi github page github.com/kiwitcms/Kiwi
is there an eww-openrc package anywhere to run the daemon?
Check out Illinois Mono
I've had a look. Looks pretty nice! Good job.
I believe gnome would be much better for small screen size
Yeah maybe, haven't tried that out yet. I'll give it a go.
the thumbnail and the title are pieces of art lmao 😂
fastfetch -c all
Thanks for the tip!
I love it. A dashboard like this can replace the bar completely.
Thanks for taking the the time to upload this was really useful.
You're welcome, glad to hear that!
To be honest I highly appreciate your efforts and work mate. From my side the video could be more descriptive
Thanks! In your opinion, what would help in making the video more descriptive?
Nice video! I was wondering what your thoughts are on OpenSuSE (Tumbleweed)? Did you ever give it a try?
17:00 ur public ip
Though it caught them all. Thanks! Edit: managed to correct it, thanks again for the catch!
What was it bro
They should rename silverblue and kinoite too, to Gnome Atomic and Plasma Atomic, it will be way better.
Well, I never thought I'd see a tiling window manager user, using vscode. I've seen it all now........
well, it's me also. why not? i like vscode much than vim or else. i'm using vim only in initial setup of the system and in some other situations when i need to simply editing some scipts/configs, but coding only in vscode. it's much simplier than vim and i have a ton of usefull plugins
24:25 You really wanted to make the video at that time! 😁 Still as helpful as the other one, thanks!
Yeah indeed in hindsight would be better to make it under better conditions. Glad you're helped by the video 🙂
Cute puppy! 😍 Thank you for this useful guide!
Thank you for the nice words! And happy to know it's useful.
Nice
Thank you! It actually works!
What did you do to get the Demo user to edit needles? On my server, I keep getting an error when attempting to save changes to existing needle files.
Hi Luker, that's a difficult question to answer, sounds like a permission issue for the needles, saying this without too much information. Does the log tell you anything when putting it on debug level? I can't remember doing anything specifically, then again this is 2 years ago.
@@testertech Nothing is conveyed with debugging turned on since the error during the save attempt occurs after the test run fails. I changed all needle file permissions to rw for all users as well as the needles folder. Google's chat GTP says that the Demo user doesn't have the permissions to edit needle files. That's a laugh since you and others have done it!
Nice bar
Thank you kindly
Thanks, have a good day !
You too!
How did you install hyprland on fedora?
I used Copr for that. Specifically this one I think copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/zhanggyb/hyprland/ but there are other repo's out there so you may need to try what works for you.
great tutorial thanks
Hi, I came here because your video got suggested to me by YT. Now first and foremost thank you for making it, I have learned some new things about fedora and you're awesome for making vids altogether and you should keep going. However, what I didn't like about this video is you just reading some text, I know you probably shouldn't make unscripted vids, but reading almost without any emotions and intonation makes my focus wander around and in the end I couldn't keep it at all. I hope this helps you to become better at making these kinds of videos. Best of luck with your channel.
Hi Alexi, thanks for the feedback I think you are spot on actually, and that's also what was one of the concerns I had with this video. I've made some unscripted content before and this is a somewhat new direction with this video. I can certainly improve either way! Thanks for the honest feedback I really appreciate it!
I wonder what this provides that isn't already available with NixOS?
Hi recklessroges, now you make me wonder the same. Could be a good thing to look into. Thanks!
Lot less work
Yes, but with a ton of less work. You don't have to learn a whole language of programming, for example.
Nice
Thank you
You're welcome
genuinely thought this was about metal containers...
I see how you could think that. Apologies if any confusion. Video is about software containers (pods) indeed.

my picom is not starting. On terminal it says : Xlib: ignoring invalid extension event 161 Also my polybar reamin the same even after loging out and back in
Hi, I've never seen that error before for Picom. I found a thread on Reddit just now that could be helpful for this issue www.reddit.com/r/Gentoo/s/m0mlYDFFHm Polybar: make sure you double check your configuration for polybar it could be tricky to set it up the first time. Sounds like you're not pointing to the config you want to use (it's using default config) but just guessing here. Feel free to create an issue on GitHub so I can help better.
@@testertechThanks It started working. I don't know how I got it working but it did work.
hi! thankyou for explanations. One question, in eww.yuck you call ./modules/notifications.sh, but this file is not in the repo. Is currently in use?
Hi Alvaro. You're welcome! I've looked around the code and it's safe to ignore that file/config item. For your info, I think it comes from this repo github.com/druskus20/eugh/blob/master/notification-revealer/eww.yuck so I think I tried something and then forgot to remove it from the yuck file.
@@testertech Ok them, Thak you sir :)
Don't forget to press ALT + Enter once you complete build.sh and have accessed the webtop at localhost:3000
The volume part is not working on my side. Do you have any advice? ┌─ /home/<user>/.config/eww/eww.yuck:150:40 │ 150 │ (icon-module :class "speaker" :icon {speaker_poll.icon} │ ──────────── error: Failed to turn ` 96%` into a value of type json-value
the function get_volume is used to get the value for the volume. Can you try to run the command in your terminal: amixer get Master and if that gives something back, expand the command further to line 9 as in: github.com/TesterTech/eww-from-scratch/blob/70ef8f06c68749bd6161d0b857a6957d2bfa4ab1/dot_config/eww/ewwbarhyprland/modules/volumecontrol.sh#L9C6-L9C6 The result should be a whole number (0, 10, 20, etc..) Feel free to raise an issue at the github page if you're still stuck.
could you setup tails to use like this?
Hi vvinterwulf, Interesting idea. I've looked a little based on your question and saw that, atm there is no container image for Tails available. I read up a little on Tails and Tor plays a big role in that if I'm correct. I've found an image called "alpine-tor" hub.docker.com/r/andrius/alpine-tor so in theory basing a webtop on alpine-tor could be done... But I'm really not a specialist in this regard so I'm not sure how well it works when combined. Hope this is helpful! Eric
isn't this just... remote desktop to a dedicated server?
It's similar indeed, except more light weight since it's a container so could be easier to customize and update etc. But for the most part it's the same :-) It will become way more interesting I expect when we look at customizing the image. Also, at least from my perspective, it's interesting to know more about building container images etc.. So that also peaked my interest in this approach.
nice thx for tip
thanks for this videos. I manage to integrate Kde Plasma in to Hyprland wm and migrate.
Very nice, good job!
The issue appeared after my first week of using Fedora 39 although I was looking for this solution for one week, I watched all FIRST THINGS TO DO AFTER INSTALLING FEDORA 39 videos but none of them mentioned this issue. Thank you very much Eric!
You're welcome! Glad it helped out 72hra!
Hello, thanks for your tutorial on i3. I have some errors with the colors on the ./polybarstart. I can't see to figure out the errors on X resource colors. It's a bunch of color X, X is equal to 0, 8, and 15 mostly. I'll start your 'rice from scratch' playlist and see what can I do to fix this. Anyway, thanks for everything!
Thanks! Appreciate your comment. What you could quickly validate is that the colors are loaded in xrdb. Run the following in a terminal: xrdb -q | grep color Should show a list of colors. If that's not the case then: xrdb -merge $HOME/.cache/wal/colors.Xresources If that shows the colors, add the xrdb -merge.. snippet to your ~/.bashrc Good luck and have fun!
