A little slice of History! - A Ride Along the Route 3a 1 Year on! - Z3.202 & B2.2030
It’s been a while… first upload in 3 months!
I’m not quite “dead” yet 😂
Saturday October 29 2023 marked an end of a little unique piece of Melbourne’s Tram Network, when the Route 3a came to an end, The Route 3 was very unique as it was the only tram route to have a regular Weekend division and was known as 3a as it diverted via St Kilda Beach. On 31st January 2009, The Route 3 was altered on the weekends to form the 3a, diverting from the regular route at St Kilda Junction and travelling via Fitzroy Street, The Esplanade and Carlisle Street to rejoin the regular route at the corner St Kilda Rd and Carlisle Street. And after running for a total of 14 years, 8 months, & 29 days, on Saturday 29th October 2023, the Route 3a saw its final day,
Both the Route 3 & 3a were run from the Glenhuntly depot with Z and B Class trams, and was a well used route, by tourists getting to and from the famous Luna Park attraction.
Today we have 2 ride-along clips, the first on Z3.202, heading to St Kilda from Anzac Station, and the second being onboard B2.2030, heading to Melbourne Uni from St Kilda.

Short one today… but better than nothing. 2 Z3 AOA trams, advertising PTV safety campaigns “TAC Stop kidding yourself, if you drink, take the tram” #150 From Essendon & a single clip of #175 From Malvern. Which was on loan to Essendon depot at time on filming. Both these trams now have yellow “beware a tram weighs as much as 30 rhinos” advertisements.

Well my first video for 2024 is a bit of a sad one, and not one I was expecting to upload, We all knew it would be a sad end to 130 when it finally ended, and that date came on Monday 25/3/2024 when the tram was officially decommissioned from service. So let's go through the history and major events of 130s Life, It was began service on Wednesday 23rd April 1980 and was painted in MMTB Marigold...

At 2:19 a tobacconist is miraculously not burned to the ground!
This is just a short video, and my comment might confuse you. I like and dislike the AOA on these trams depending on the location. I like the AOA when surrounded by the greenery of Royal Park, but I think it is ugly when running through the city. This AOA is only effective when it can be clearly seen in open spaces rather than being inconspicuous when almost hidden by the backdrop of the city. I have seen the Rhino AOA, and although it's quite noticeable, I think it looks too much like a roadworks warning than a tram safety warning.
To be honest I think only one of them should have been changed to the rhino ad
Nice work I have always been sometimes on route 58
😊
😊
J
I THOUGHT YOU MEANT THE E2 STEAM ENGINE
I saw this tram on root 58
Cool
I am not sure how I feel about this tram, and I am leaning towards it being a little overdone. I think the doors would be hard to recognise for those who are vision impaired and those who are unfamiliar with the trams. I am looking forward to your filming of the other 5 art trams Dave.
Hi John! Yeah I agree, I think this tram is a bit “full on” and there’s a bit much happening, however I’ll save my final opinion until I’ve seen the others in person - from the photos provided some look better than others.
@MelbourneTramFan I can't wait to see the other 5 trams, and seeing them in person is much better. However, your videos make us feel like we are there with you in person. Have a great night, Dave.
Not as good as #130 😢
130 will be remembered. However I do quite like the yellow. New art tram for 24/25 are out - 6 in total and I’ve filmed 1 so far.
@MelbourneTramFan I do agree with you about the yellow, which draws attention to the subject (safety). I am not sure how I feel about 2017, and I am leaning towards it being a little overdone with the doors being hard to recognise for those who are vision impaired and those not familiar with the trams.
Well over a year since this, now im using it to try and figure out the roof parts for the c class that im making in roblox...
Hate having the lid down so I like the bar to stop it from going down
"promosm"
The Melbourne tram footage is the best, and when it comes to AOA, Sydney is the worst. Great video, Dave. Well done 👏 👍
Haha, cheers John. I noticed many of the Sydney trams have the same AOA as Melbourne’s, although they aren’t completely covered like ours, regardless it was nice to be filming something different, riding on them was actually pretty decent, good smooth ride out to Randwick and circular quay. But I still don’t understand why you can’t ‘touch on’ inside the actual vehicle hahaha. Thanks for the comment.
@MelbourneTramFan They decided that tapping on inside would cause congestion around the doors and slow down the loading and increase the dwell times. The AOA on the Sydney trams is more overpowering to me because of the length of the trams.
Sydney trams look weird with two sets coupled together. Honestly is r10 towing a c1 rare? It isnt called the cursed class for no reason
It’s probably more interesting than rare
Very very good video!!!!😊
Thank you!
These trams very similar to the Tatra Trams
No wonder it had this ad for a long time, would have been planned to be withdrawn so removing the livery probably wasnt worth it
Just like with 155 and 136, who knows, maybe 130 might end up at Preston alongside 155.
I remember it running on route 57 & 82
Yea, it was always good seeing it out
It looked to be in good condition. Why was it decommissioned?
@@davidbayley9588 I’m not exactly sure on the reasoning but, these z classes have been withdrawn or will soon be withdrawn: 116, 117, 118, 119, 124, 129, 130, 147, 161, 172
Very sad 😢
Will forever be remembered
#stopgreenscreenkids
It entered service in MMTB marigold livery.
👍
No!!!!! My favourite tram!
Yea it was def my favorite, was hoping it would stay around untill the end, but sadly that appears not the case, it will forever be remembered for its iconic AOA.
I saw 130 on a Route 16D to Malvern, but that was probably the last time I saw it on Tramtracker I also by managed to film it Arts Precint and will make a memorial video for that later on
Yea, the last time I filmed it was on the 26th of Feb on the 57, and the last photo I got was on the 28th, which was its last week at Essendon I'm pretty sure, its good that its back there now, even if its just sitting there.
Is it getting scrapped?
It has been decommissioned and currently sitting at Essendon Depot awaiting its fate.
@@MelbourneTramFan rip, I always saw that tram and drove with it on route 57 😭
@@Detrabot Yea it was my favorite tram, will be missed.
130 is my favourite tram
Saw 130 and on Hawthorn rd and it made qustion why did they do that
Yea it’s at glen now. Originally it swapped with 175. But then it went to glen and now 175s back at Malvern. Now only got 150 at Essendon hopefully we get 130 back
130s now been decommissioned and is sitting at Essendon depot awaiting its fate
In exchange for 130 to Glen Huntly...
130 better
And now its gone completly..
Why is it green Why is it black Why is it purple Whats next?
Why did the tram miss my stop 😂
This tram has a good base colour of green, but it looks like it is covered with badly placed stickers, which makes it difficult to fully understand what is being advertised.
I don’t mind it. The green looks nice but the rest is a bit messy
@@MelbourneTramFan exactly 👍
Royal Park is my favourite of your filming locations. I originally criticised this tram for being too dark, but someone pointed out that it drew attention to the tram and the message that it was conveying, so I still don't like the AOA on this tram but I acknowledge that it successfully delivers its message.
I don’t mind this one, it’s not the best, but definitely not the worst. I don’t mind the black but it would look better if the front apron wasn’t white as it clashes with the back.
@@MelbourneTramFan That's why I don't like it. I would prefer the black to be continued on the white aprons.
God I hate America
Excellent footage with a sneak peak of the following tram
Great show! Thanks for that. The auto-generated transcript seems somewhat confused by fireworks. Happy New Year to all.
Thanks! Haha yes it’s messed up and has sent to have gotten confused lol.
I usually watch on my TV but today I only have my phone and can't make out the fleet numbers which makes commenting difficult. My favourite tram is the "McCafe" because I think the colours are very suited to the tram. My least favourite is the Red Energy tram as it looks very messy to me. The Burrito tram is not too bad and the legacy tram is my second favourite. The blue CRM tram is my next least favourite and the tram immediately after that looks like the rear end has been dipped in tomato sauce😅. The final tram in Royal Park is also one of the best especially for the class of tram used. I really enjoyed this video which you edited together beautifully, well done Dave. 👏
Hi Dave 👋 I watched this when you uploaded it and I commented but my comment is not here. I am so sorry about that but TH-cam strikes again. I will watch it again tomorrow and comment.
TH-cam is having lots of issues lately. I shall await (and hopefully reply) to your future comment.
Oh dear, looks like the toilet ignored the low clearance warnings…
Maybe we should relocate it next to Montague st bridge? 🤣

I actually like this tram
I agree! It looks pretty nice
The tram waited two hours for him 😂😂😂
