Slow sailing from Gull Harbour to Silver Harbour

Fickle winds made for a slow and sometimes frustrating 33 NM sail back to Silver Harbour. Sailing and motor sailing to try and stay on my 6 hour budget. I hate having to g timelines!

    this was very stirring. going to pick one up this week in the Ozarks to learn to solo sail in my 50s. had a crush on the boat the minute I saw the ad. seeing this and I'm double sold. Did you make this tribute for your father's funeral?

    Sorry for the chuckle but it was kind of funny. I recently replaced the lower armature bearing in my orbital sander. Hopefully it holds together. Very interested in your window mission.

    Thanks for posting. I have to change mine in 2024 as a further step toward having a easy starting engine. Mine was getting pretty hard to start in the cool fall weather but it would start so I decided to not fiddle with the unknown because I had to motor to the haul-out slip and needed the engine one last time. Not sure I will get to it over the winter. 1) Noted about washers under the yoke nuts. 2) Was there a compressible washer between the injector and the head? 3) I hope my injector pops out as easily as yours did. I have a reconditioned injector assembly to go in. I was expecting some springs inside when you took it apart? Cleaning seemed simple enough and there was nothing to adjust? 4) Did you bleed the fuel system prior to starting? It wasn't mentioned in the video, I assume it would NOT START without bleeding the air out. Bliss SYC

    • @WildRoverSailing
      @WildRoverSailing 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comments. 1. Yeah don’t loose the washers! 2. It’s possible. I’d have to look at the shop drawing of the engine. I was pondering this after I did the job and was editing the video. If there is one, it was in good shape and doesn’t leak. 3. It came out surprisingly easily. But I’ve seen where someone will turn over the engine with the nuts loose to break the injector out with compression. 4. No bleeding was needed. It’s far enough down the line that the only tubing left is the tank return. Since recording this video in 2020, I’ve had additional issues with hard starting, especially when it’s cold. I’ve since replaced the injector ($50 on Amazon for a pack of 6) with little improvement. Lots of soot in the exhaust, loss of power and it takes a long time to come up to speed. I think the head gasket need replacing. That will be my next engine video. Why pay someone to do something I can figure out. Cheers.

    • @WildRoverSailing
      @WildRoverSailing 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good luck with it. My engine issues turned out to not be injector related, so by process of elimination, my next attempt at correcting this will be replacement of the head gasket. Hope that does the trick.

      No worries there. It’s steep and the harbour owner launches much larger boats than mine this way, with fixed rudders.

    Hi Great video! Question, I've been crewing on a Mk 3 and it is impossible to get it to plane under any conditions, how's the hull shape of this version compared to the older ones?

  • @WildRoverSailing

    I shot this with an older Kodak HD camera but have since upgraded to a GoPro. The wee camera was mounted to a spider leg type tripod which can easily be moved about the deck.

    We missed the biggies. We motored through about 3 small line squalls. It was fascinating watching them forming over our heads. I had tried out a new reefing setup that spring that turned out to be useless. Sailing would have been a lot smoother. I need a storm jib.

    @smp22 The deck is cored throughout with balsa and foam. It's actually quite thick at the cabin top winch location. Good old C&C go thick or go home construction. One core area I need to address is below the port aft jib track. The gelcoat cracked there last year making me think that it may be wet. That was the only hardware I did not remove.

  • @WildRoverSailing
    @WildRoverSailing 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MrInthenameofthefree She has a Yanmar 1GM10. Part of the reno involved pulling the cutlass bearing, polishing the prop shaft and aligning the engine for vibration. I still need to replace an engine mount however but she runs tip-top.

  • @smp22
    @smp22 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Am I seeing this correctly, no core under that winch on the cabin top? Have you had any core problems on the deck otherwise? Good job on the boat, she's beautiful
